tossed all of the old flowers out today and reorganized a few pots…

moved one of the violets into the lovely head vase from my New Year’s Day bouquet…
and spotted some new blossoms…

that was a lovely treat…

house is tidy and ready for company;-)…

as I was waiting for my ride this morning there was a huge thunderstorm and the power went out…

I was in the middle of taking a few pics of the violet that was just starting to open…
at the office I also took some photos of the violet there that is open… and of my orchid…

great start to my time back at the office;-)…

such a boost today… flowers everywhere I was…
quick peek at the pond and as I backed out of the driveway the sky cleared and the flowers in the front garden all smiled at me…
at the office, there were violets, two different orchids and cyclamen…

all that flower power certainly helped offset the occasional computer difficulty that I came across throughout the day…

enjoyed some beautiful flowers today…
was at the office for a few hours and the African violet was still blooming and looked so nice…

I was laughing when I got home to see that the hibiscus was blooming again… the buds started opening when my daughter arrived in the city… she and my son-in-law have been house-sitting for a friend and while she’s been gone it has not bloomed… she arrived home about five minutes before I took this shot…
finally, while I was out today, I picked up this cute little tree that was on sale at Safeway… I bought it instead of flowers;-)…

a lovely addition to my tree collection;-)…

last night I was at the computer and for some reason decided to see if George’s obituary was still online…
it was, and I cried as I read it and the condolences that people wrote online about my beloved…
was at Rona today to look for a planter pot and saw a few people who had worked with him, although most of them seemed to be new… things change in three years… it was a scratch and save day and I remember how he always had to work on those Saturdays and Sundays…
picked up a few African violets for the office… also got a pink mandevilla…
all of these reminded me of the many flowers George has brought me over the years…
also picked up some solar lights which I put outside to see if I turned them on correctly…
tried on lots of clothes but only found two things I liked… a nice pair of soft pants to wear around the house and some cute purple shorts…
came home and took it easy for the rest of the day…
will be missing my beloved tomorrow…

African Violets, big girl pants, cope with winter, George, great pianist, maternal grandmother, memories, orchids, Violet May, violets
when I got back to work yesterday, after two weeks away, one of my African Violets was blooming its little heart out… was a bit surprised because it had lots of blooms on it when I left, so I thought it would be just about done…
it was lovely…
one of the ways I cope with winter is by having lots of flowering plants or cut flowers around to help keep me grounded… usually George would bring home orchids for me on a regular basis… I can’t get them re-bloom, but they last a long time and are so beautiful… the weather has been quite cold and miserable so I haven’t gone over to Rona to get any but think I will see if a friend will come with me so that the car will be warm and I can bring a couple home…
my maternal grandmother’s name was Violet… Violet May… she was an amazing woman… she had a rare calcium deficiency and had to take numerous pills to stay mobile, but she worked until she was well into her sixties… she was a very snappy dresser and had the most interesting hair… it was very short and she brushed it up from the sides… among other things she was a great pianist and I can remember sitting around in her living room singing songs with my family…
amazing what memories come up when looking at a flower, lol…
