lovely afternoon in the garden…
spotted a new bud coming up on the water lily, even though the first flower barely opened due to the cold weather, sigh…
and then spent a great time with my buddies as we enjoyed the beautiful summer day;-)…

since August 26th, I’ve been watching a water lily flower bud… first noticed it about four inches under the water…
once it reached the water level, it has come up about an inch and then popped back under the water… then it would reemerge and finally it rose about two inches out of the water…
it finally opened on Tuesday, September 2nd, on a very cool, overcast, and windy afternoon… certainly, not a day to sit by the pond😢…
since then it has remained closed up…
hoping the weather turns warm and sunny before it returns below the surface…

the other day a friend took away the fire pit, (which hadn’t been working for ages and was currently living in the shed), to see if he could get it going again…
I had almost put it in the lane to get picked up by someone, but decided to keep it and see if anyone could fix the silly thing…
he brought it back with his propane tank to demonstrate how to light it…
it appears that I wasn’t holding the gas button long enough…
so I added in the glass bits, tried to light it, and it didn’t work, sigh…
next, I moved the glass pieces away from the gas tube and when I tried it again, it worked…
I am a happy camper;-)…

I spent a large portion of the day reading in the garden and enjoying the flowers and fish…
as the afternoon progressed I watched the morning glories close up… it reminded me of all the days when I worked and how, by the time I got home, they were all done…
this morning I took a photo of the butterfly bench with a number of blooms on it…
currently the majority of the blooms are the large blue ones with a few smaller purple ones still popping out…
by late this afternoon they had all shrivelled up…
what a treat to be able to enjoy them from start to finish;-)…

yesterday I climbed into the pond and cleaned the pump…
it always makes a huge difference to the flow of the waterfall when all the gunk is pulled out;-)…
I can hear the change in the power of the water as I am cleaning…
then I sat for a few minutes with my legs in the water… it was refreshing…

the other day I posted about the morning glory that had grown through a space in the back of the bench on the deck…
I was hoping that the vine would have flowers on the front of the bench;-)…
today I looked carefully and discovered this, lol…
it went around the 2×4 and back out on the same side…
too funny;-)…

another lovely day…
spotted a baby bunny, snacking on poppy plants…
and a bigger bunny in the middle of the garden…
a bit later my housemate discovered the cutest little frog and popped them next to the pond…
I had an enjoyable time reading outside, although I did have a blanket on as it was a bit cool, but the garden looked tidy following a cut, trim and blow, lol…
everything is so lush following all the rain…
the waterfall area has had the last of the liner cut back now that we are sure it isn’t leaking, yay…

the red hibiscus is very happy with two or three blooms every day…
the new purple one seems pretty happy as well…
they do much better when it rains than the morning glories, lol…
the morning glories do well, as long as they remain dry…
the mandevilla has so far opened one bloom, but a few are getting ready… they take much longer to open than any of the other plants…
it is great fun first thing each morning to walk around the garden to see what flowers have opened…

went to the grocery store first thing on Friday… good time to go as it wasn’t busy and I got my shopping done in less than thirty minutes…
once home and everything was put away, I set out the cushions and spent a lovely time reading…
received a call from a friend driving through and invited them for supper… then I spent the next while preparing my world famous, (well family and friends anyway), macaroni and cheese;-)…
once that was done, I went back to my book…
my company arrived, we had a short visit in the garden, ate the delicious mac and cheese, and off they went… all inside an hour;-)…
had a plan to take a photo of the finished pot, but forgot, lol… did remember to take a picture of my plate… packed up the leftovers for another day;-)…
tidied up and enjoyed the garden as I read outside until it got dark…
lovely treat;-)…
