today, on this International Women’s Day, I’ve spent time thinking of the many women who have influenced my life…

I wrote these words in 2017:

whether they are family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, or those I’ve seen from afar… 

whether they are alive or dead…

whether they know it or not…

they have had a part in making me me…

I am blessed…

now, more than ever, in these difficult days, we need to support others as they move forward;-)…

last night we celebrated my beloved who departed fourteen years ago…

as always, some days it seems like yesterday, and others so long ago…

hamburgers and floats were eaten here and via the internet…

so thankful to have family around for these celebrations;-)…

I am always surprised as to how much water evaporates in the house on a regular basis…

Monday mornings I add about twelve litres of water to the fish condos as the water has gone down a significant amount since the previous week…

I have a Tupperware container that lives under the kitchen sink and is filled with water for the plants…

the plants get watered on Wednesdays weekly, but the tanks are topped up on Mondays…

the reason it is Monday is that my friends come every Monday afternoon and the less water in the tanks, the more noise the pumps make, and the loud noise can disrupt our conversation…

cannot interrupt important conversations, especially if one of us is on the phone…

it is the beginning of March and I realized I hadn’t remembered that this week marks 14 years since my beloved passed…

at first I felt bad because I hadn’t remembered, but then I realized how often I think of him during each and every day and no longer focus on the day he died…

I was wanting some comfort food recently and couldn’t think of what I wanted…

eventually I decided on Kraft Dinner… hadn’t had any in ages, but had a box in the pantry;-)…

it was delicious and just what I needed…

the snowploughs came along the street about 10:30 this morning…

there were a lot of them… maybe two or three of the big ones that move the snow from the road to the curb…

and block off the driveway…

then come the buckets which clean up the windrow… I think there were three of them…

they always take a scoop by the fire hydrant so that it is accessible if needed… unfortunately they didn’t scoop out the sidewalk… sometimes if you are outside already shovelling, they might take a scoop there as well;-)…

not this time, but my housemate dug through it on his break;-)…

a while ago, I pulled a muscle in my lower abdomen…

it took awhile to get confirmation as I thought it was something else, lol…

apparently, shovelling is a really bad thing to do, which is unfortunate… usually I shovel the steps and front sidewalk… it doesn’t take that long, but after I shovelled last week, the pain got more intense…

so, today, when I had to go out, I decided not to shovel… it was difficult, but I remember the pain…

so I went out the back and walked in the tire tracks down to the street to get in the Uber…

will be getting my housemate to clear it up;-)…

thinking back to Tuesday’s pancake supper…

besides the lovely pancakes, I made a potato pancake with the last little bit of batter to which I added a shredded potato…

topped it with sour cream and a slice of bacon…

this continues to be my favourite pancake;-)…

yesterday morning I started prepping for supper…

I sliced strawberries and then added sugar to macerate them…

later in the day I pulled out the pancake recipe from a well-worn cookbook and got the dry ingredients ready…

once my housemate brought home milk, I finished the mix and started cooking…

microwaved some bacon on the side and whipped the cream…

the first batch of pancakes came out perfectly… mine came from the second batch and may have been a bit darker, lol…

what a delicious dinner;-)…

we’ve been a bit remiss in clearing the back decks on the way to the gate and garage, sigh… and it has become rather dicey when I’m getting into and out of the hot tub🤪…

it had gotten very rough and slippery so we tried a few weeks ago to chip away at it… unfortunately it was still too cold and the snow and ice were rather deep…

Sunday, I went out in the afternoon when it was quite warm (-2° C with windchill)… I took out one of the small, metal shovels from the beautifully organized wall in the garage and spent a half hour or so removing the slush and chunks of wet, snowy, ice, clearing a path to the garage side door (almost), hot tub, and driveway gate… due to winter ground heaving in the garage, we aren’t using the side door just now…

it was lovely out and I took my time with constant breaks…

it is down to the wood now, and will likely dry up nicely…
