the weekend sure makes watching the Olympics easier…

wake up around 4 am, watch whatever is on and go back to sleep for another few hours… rise and have a relaxing breakfast and watch what I might have missed earlier… nap if needed, and repeat…

I ate especially well today, as I knew there was roast chicken dinner on the menu…

breakfast smoothie and hard boiled eggs with shredded cucumbers for lunch…

ran out for a quick grocery shop and then back to the Olympics…

prepped the stuffing for the chicken and was sure to have enough to make stuffing muffins for my youngest grandson… they are his favourite, lol…

sadly, he wasn’t feeling well so didn’t have any dinner but he did take some home for later…

ended my day with a couple of shortbread cookies that a friend made for me and a small piece of dark chocolate… the cookies reside in the freezer and this was the first time I’ve had any… mmm, delicious reminder of Christmas…

now to watch the ice dance short program…

last night on my way home I picked up an iTunes card so that I could upgrade one of my apps, and now I have some more shapes to play with for pictures, lol…

enjoyed a quiet day watching Olympics and napping…

I did run over to Total Wrapture to have the shellac removed from my fingernails…

for some reason the beautiful white French manicure turned a strange shade of yellow/orange… the aesthetician had never seen anything like it… that’s me… special… although the polish didn’t chip, my nails do not feel great now that it has been scraped off…

the sunshine made me think it was warm out, but with the wind, it was rather chilly…

final other activity was to take some pictures of my flowers in the sunlight…

that yellow ball in the sky really does brighten everything up;-)…

had a lovely time wandering around the office and taking pictures of the various roses…

I can’t explain how much joy I get from having flowers around…

seeing them wherever I turned brought a smile to my face…

between the roses and the fact that the daylight is getting longer every day my spirits have certainly been lifted…

now if only the temperature would start to rise in a steady manner…

well that was nice…

texted my grandson, the shoveler, to say that there was a bit of snow on the driveway and sidewalks… it was quite beautiful as I looked out this morning before and after footprints were made…

we met at the office after work, stopped for gas and picked up some chicken wings for our supper… made a salad and we watched some Olympics…

then he went out and cleared away the snow… hot chocolate and a bit more Olympics and off he went to catch the bus home…

I really enjoyed having someone to discuss the performances of the various athletes we watched;-)…

last night I picked up roses for my colleagues and was touched when my florist advised she had added an extra one to be sure that I got one…

on the weekend I made valentines for everyone using my pictures, an app to put words on them, and wireless printing… lots of fun… currently I have one as the wallpaper on my phone…

always enjoyable to treat them…

my beloved really loved Valentine’s Day… he always got me roses and chocolates and made sure that both of the girls received a rose too…

I still send roses to the girls…

often we’d have our favourite steak and lobster for dinner;-)…

been feeling a little sorry for myself without him, so preparing treats for others helps me overcome that feeling…

had a lovely day at work… wore red, had snacks and decided I would order a heart shaped pizza for supper as a treat for me…

it was the spicy perogy, which I really like… made a salad to complete my meal…

maybe I will finish off a small piece of sugar-free Berrylicious from Decadence Chocolates as a final treat…

lots of early mornings and late nights as I watch as much of the Olympics live as possible…

either stay awake until midnight or fall asleep during some of the sports I care less about… the tv stays on and I surface about four to watch some of the early events before work…

not much happens during our day so that is working well…

check the tv when I get home while supper is cooking, in case I missed anything… watch until I fall asleep…

and repeat;-)…

great news is I’ve been enjoying the sunrise most mornings, and tonight the sky was beautiful as the sun went down…

and the temperature had risen very nicely throughout the day…

had a lovely evening with some women who I haven’t seen for months…

what a treat… delicious dinner – a meat stew and a vegan one as well – and thoughtful conversation…

there was cake for dessert, but I waited till I got home and had some dark chocolate and almonds while watching the men’s half pipe;-)…

we talked about the many difficult things happening in the world and how we might reimagine ways to deal with them… what we might do in our small corner…

a lot to think about…

been to a birthday party this afternoon… for someone who turned nine…

lots of people and tons of food…

the sad thing is that instead of boxes and bags there was just a pile of envelopes…

seems like it was just yesterday that he played with toys… he is the youngest, so likely we won’t be buying any more things to go in boxes and bags…

the most exciting thing was his cake… made by a family friend, it was a candy cake and drew everyone to the table like a magnet…

was fun to watch, lol…

someone recently asked why I am so enamoured with the Olympics…

I’ve been thinking about that a bit…

at the time I said I loved to watch all sports… then I noted that I am not as fond of the big team sports… hockey doesn’t really excite me… and curling isn’t my favourite…

I really enjoy watching more individual sports… like all types of skiing and skating… short track skating is very exciting and the new snowboarding categories are fun…

my dad was a great sports fan… he had been quite an athlete in his day but developed a chronic illness during his years in the service so he couldn’t participate in anything as he got older…

he instilled a love of sport in me and I remember attending many events with him… he particularly liked athletics and we would watch running and jumping and pole vaulting… he also liked speed skating…

so maybe when I watch the Olympics I am feeling his presence;-)…

he always cheered on everyone, whether they were a favourite or not… his feeling was that if you did well, you deserved accolades… and even if you didn’t have your optimum performance but tried your best, credit was due…

that is something that has stayed with me to this day… a good performance deserves applause…

been up since around four because that’s when the action starts… such fun…

yesterday I packed up a container of Easy Thai Shrimp Soup as it was my day to provide soup for Souper Thursday…

I had saved the recipe to my Pinterest page ages ago, but made it for the first time the night before… with a few changes as I went along…

as I left the house in the morning, I had to put down my bag and take a picture of the beautiful moon in the sky…

the soup was a hit… everyone loved it…

I brought home the last little bit and scoffed it down for my dinner as I watched the start of some of the Olympics, even before the opening ceremonies…

so excited for these next two weeks of sports…
