spent a relaxing morning in the garden, sitting close to the pond…

counted ten babies who are growing every day, and got to watch them swimming around looking for food…

it was particularly nice because it was supposed to rain all day, but it held off until around one pm…

not sure how the pond will look tomorrow because it is already very full from all the rain we’ve already had…

for the last week or so I’ve been wondering why the hibiscus is getting all these yellow leaves… I’d been watering it and had even given it some banana peel water…

this afternoon, between rainfalls, I put a chair up alongside it as the wind is supposed to get crazy tomorrow and I didn’t want it to blow over again…

and spotted this…

this is very sad… I hope I will be able to remove the broken portion and that the other two stems will remain healthy…

it may have been damaged during the big storm last week… the tree had blown over and I didn’t check the stem when I put it back up… too bad, maybe it could have been repaired…

had a lovely in-person gathering with my BS buddies…

Monday evening is our usual time to gather, and we’ve been doing that for many years…

since the lockdown we’ve been connecting via Skype, but for the last number of weeks we’ve been meeting on the deck in the garden, unless the weather doesn’t cooperate…

it is wonderful to be together again… we sit apart, but are able to enjoy each other with a cup of tea or coffee…

the sparrows, chickadees and a few cute little warblers were having a lovely time eating and drinking in the garden… I was particularly happy as the warblers hadn’t been around for a while…

suddenly they all flew into the trees and a juvenile Cooper’s Hawk landed on the wires over the deck… what a surprise…

the last few sparrows flew right over my head to get to the safety of the cedars…

the hawk watched from the wires and wandered along the top of the deck for about ten minutes before leaving…

it was very quiet for a while…

it was special to see as I’ve only seen hawks twice in the garden, but I hope it doesn’t come back as it really keeps all the other birds away, lol…

this morning, as I was making my breakfast, I could hear the crows making quite a ruckus…

when I looked outside one was on the deck collecting the almonds I had put out for the squirrels, I thought, lol…

just yesterday I had watched some sparrows toss them off the ledge because they didn’t want them…

not sure if it was because they were too big, or slightly stale, lol…

Sunday to Wednesday life was very busy…

Sunday, a friend, her husband and daughter came over for lunch… the garden looked beautiful and we had a lovely visit…

lunch was a delightful collection of goodies from Pho Hoang… everything was tasty…

on Monday morning I had an early meeting in the garden and the rain held off just long enough for us to finish…

Tuesday morning, when I woke up after the storm in the night, I discovered that the hibiscus and dahlia planters were both tipped over from the strong wind… when I looked at the neighbour’s yard I discovered a large branch had fallen right next to their house… thankfully, nothing was damaged…

Wednesday morning a friend stopped by and we had a great catch-up…

in the evening my grandson came for his birthday dinner… delicious steak, lobster, mushrooms and twice-stuffed potatoes were on the menu…

once again, great timing… as we were cleaning up the sky turned very dark… we just got all the cushions inside when the wind and rain arrived…

we have certainly appreciated the rainfall;-)…

on Monday the slinky arrived in the mail…

we’d been looking for a while and apparently everyone has been buying them as there were none available nearby…

this one was ordered on Thursday and turned up just four days later…

once the rain stopped I put it on the bird feeder pole…

I didn’t pin the bottom down as I read that this wasn’t required…

we will see if it keeps the squirrels from getting to the feeder…

today, my grandson turns twenty-one…

apparently I am getting lax in my old age as I haven’t been taking as many photos as usual…

these are three of the most recent ones with him in them, lol… but they cover the important things…

in this first one he is cleaning out the hot tub for me… he often comes over and looks after various household and garden jobs…

currently he has my car and here he driving me home after my first Covid-19 vaccination where he kept me company through the entire process… and suggested we get an ice cream treat…

this last one is him heading out in the car after delivering items off for me… he runs errands for me and drops off bits and pieces whenever needed…

what a wonderful time these twenty-one years have been…

he is a wonderful support…

busy time in the garden on Saturday…

my grandson came, whipper snipped, trimmed the weeds in the driveway, and blew all the leaves and detritus… we do like the blower, which can also act as a vacuum… everything looks tidy… he also helped get one of the bubble machines going…

a bit later Hilda the Gardener spent time weeding and tidying so that the garden looks well cared for… it is always such a treat to see how lovely everything looks after she’s been here…

meanwhile, I had lightly fertilized the plants that are heavy feeders, filled bird feeders and pulled out a few weeds in the new grass…

bubbles make me happy…

I’ve spent a good part of the last few days cleaning up the flower pots, removing dead leaves, trimming, and deadheading as I went around giving the plants a drink of slightly fertilized water…

friends were coming over and I want everything to look its best;-)…
