in December we had a Random Acts of Kindness contest at work… we added berries to the wreath whenever we did something kind, or saw someone else doing something kind… at the end of the contest we sent a donation to a local charity…

have been thinking a lot about kindness lately…

from friends taking meals to support others…

to someone bringing me a cup of tea while I was deep in a project…

to the person who brought me my favourite lunch treat for no reason…

whenever I see frost on my garage window I remember the kindness of someone who invited me to their house not long after my beloved died… the frost on the window in their garage was stunning and I will always remember taking some pictures of it…

people are kind…

purple-y kind of day…

a few days ago I had a nice pedicure with my daughter and most of the cost was covered by a points program so that was a treat…

later on we stopped at Polo Park and I was able to get my cute Purdys mug replaced…

the one I had before said “I believe in chocolate for breakfast” (which is something my eldest daughter says often) but this new one has less gold on it and the purple paint feels a bit thicker, so maybe it won’t flake off like the first one did… the salesperson said she had this particular mug and hadn’t had any problems with it…

pretty purple-y day…

my oh my… it snowed quite a bit last night… and then the wind took over… blew the side door of the garage open and quite a bit of snow went inside…

looked pretty as I was leaving the house this morning, although the driving wasn’t great…

at the end of the day we left the office in groups to be sure that no one got stuck in the parking lot…

when I arrived home I turned into the driveway and couldn’t get up the slope as my snow clearing person hadn’t made it over yet…

vehicles were parked on the street so I was worried I might back into one of them if I tried to make a run for it… I went and knocked on a neighbour’s door… the vehicle wasn’t his but he thought it was from the house right across the street from me… that neighbour was shovelling so I went and asked about the vehicle… it was his, but he said I had lots of room…

he came over and tried to drive Indi up the driveway… as he was trying, the first neighbour came out to help… with a number of tries, and two of us pushing, Indi made it to the flat section of the driveway… thank goodness for winter tires…

I was able to get her into the garage from there…

I opened the side door to see that my back lane neighbour had snow-blowed the sidewalk from the lane to the deck;-)…

I took a picture of the spot where Indi got stuck, but it doesn’t look like a problem…

here’s the driver as he finished shovelling his sidewalk…

pretty neighbourly, I’d say;-)…

spent the day in my pjs…

also un-decorated all of the Christmas bits and pieces… had hoped to have my oldest grandson help me, but he wasn’t available, so I did it all on my own…

worked away at it off and on all day… had given myself a deadline of tonight as the cleaners are coming tomorrow, lol…

not ready to give up the twinkle lights just yet, lol…

redid the living room table… this time with family and Chihuly…

always remember my friend who would clean up before her housekeeper came and I always thought that was so odd…

of course, now that is exactly what I do;-)… well, tidy…

went to Canadian Tire because they had a sale on… I’d decided after my Christmas Eve skate that I’d like to get my own so we could all skate together…

got the cutest ones… they have a C on them and mauve accents;-)… I mean, clearly designed specifically for me…

we went to The Forks, along with what felt like millions of other people, and had fun skating on the River Trail…

I still worry about falling but they had the neatest chairs on skis… it was wonderful to have one to steady me and I was able to relax and get more comfortable… soon I was gliding along… one day I might be able to do that without hanging on to something or someone, lol…

my daughter had a problem with one of her feet so I pushed her for a while… gave the youngest a short ride and then he pushed me for a bit… my son-in-law ended up giving me a very fast ride back to the start;-)…

didn’t skate for long, but it was great fun to be outside with the kids…

maybe next week we will go to the Duck Pond…

been back in the groove of walking on the treadmill every morning… kind of fell off the wagon over the holidays, lol… happy to get back on track…

before I left the house I sat and enjoyed the flowers that I picked up on Monday… a lovely treat to have the moment to focus on the beauty…

when I got into the garage it still smelled delicious… just like barbecued steak… yum… pretty nice after three days… didn’t smell when I got home… will check it out tomorrow, lol…

I get an email whenever the space station flies over the house…

there will be a week or so when the messages come once or twice a day and then weeks go by with no notifications…

I’ve had a number of emails over the last week, but as the fly past has been first thing in the morning I haven’t gotten up to look for the station…

but the emails last night mentioned two fly-bys this morning… one at 6:21 and the second at 7:55, which is just about when I leave for work…

so I headed outside to watch for it… stayed out for about five minutes but didn’t spot it… think it might have been behind the neighbour’s tree…

it is always exciting when I do see it;-)…

pleased…

for the last four or five years one of my first acts of the New Year has been to change my Chihuly calendar from the last year to the coming one…

when I went to change it this morning and turned up the last page of the 2018 calendar it was a lovely photo of a Float Boat… I love the circular shapes and gorgeous colours and was sad that I wouldn’t see them…

when I opened up the 2019 calendar the first photo was of Mille Fiore… lovely blues and purples… the calendars have a few months before January and a few after December…

the January picture was all clear and didn’t make me at all excited…

so I changed it… cut the photo out and put it over the clear pic, lol..

I am pleased with the final product…

later in the afternoon I spent some time in the hot tub and thought of the various places I have seen Float Boats… the first place was at Chihuly Gardens and Glass in 2013 with my daughter and son-in-law when they were living on Vancouver Island…

I’ve also seen lots of photos in books on Chihuly…

and my favourite was from our visit to the Atlanta Botanical Garden in 2016…

ended 2018 with a delicious family dinner…

I ran out this morning to find some lobster tails and picked up a tiny orchid and some flowers… thought it would be lovely to start the new year with flowers… my beloved would have brought some home for me…

once home I prepared the twice stuffed potatoes…

then I relaxed and watched tv… I’ve been on a Bones marathon for days now, lol…

when the kids got here we finished getting organized… the younger boys helped set the table… the oldest grandson got Brussels sprouts ready and then cooked them… my daughter made sure the butter warmers were ready and my son-in-law barbecued the steak and lobster… had a FaceTime visit with the Ottawa kids and then dinner…

our traditional New Year’s Eve (or New Year’s Day) dinner was a treat… besides the steak and lobster, there were mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, salad, escargot sauce, twice-stuffed potatoes, and garlic butter…

yummy… we ended with lemon meringue pie…

everything was cleaned up and the kids headed home…

will be interesting to hear if they last until midnight, lol… not sure that I will…
