what a treat it was to watch a new batch of baby house sparrows test out their wings…
they kind of hover when they are trying to figure out where they want to land…
and they don’t really understand that a person might not be safe to land close to…
once they’ve finally found a spot, they sit there and call mom or dad to come and feed them… I finally got a photo of the feeding, although it is a little fuzzy, lol…
ordered some solar motion sensor lights for the garden last Wednesday…
wasn’t sure if they would work, but was hopeful they would frighten the raccoons away…
they arrived on Monday and were easy to install… one went at the edge of the bridge and the other is set on the top of the deck…
was so excited that night when they worked… happily it had been sunny all day…
the next night it stormed and they were on most of the time as the wind was blowing all the leaves and floating plants around when the rain wasn’t pouring down…
will see how they work when the raccoons stop by again…
the rain came down really heavy on Tuesday morning…
when I went out to check the garden I saw that one of the tomato plants had been knocked over… I was so shocked I didn’t even get a picture…
thankfully, I had a tomato cage in the garage, and it took a bit of finagling to get it over the plant… apparently it should have happened when the plant was much smaller, lol…
also pleased to see lots of flowers and the beginnings of the cucumbers;-)…
there was quite a thunderstorm early Saturday morning…
it was the first day in a long time that I ate breakfast in the house as I’ve been doing a great job of being outside if it isn’t raining…
eventually it was dry enough to spend some time in the garden where I had a bit of a duel with the gray squirrels that have found a way to get to both of the slinky protected bird feeders…
and then, I spent a lovely time watching a monarch flit around the space, landing a number of times on the milkweed and then flitting around some more…
what a treat and how lucky was I to get to enjoy those moments;-)…
in April I tried to get in to see my eye doctor at Armstrong and Small… I hadn’t been since 2019 and had noticed that my vision was not what it used to be… knew that I would need new glasses…
I was able to get an appointment for the beginning of June and was in the office for over two hours… my eyes were fine, but there was quite a bit of conversation about getting new glasses between my optometrist and the optician helping me with the glasses…
they ordered some frames and I went back about a week later to try them on… they looked good so we moved forward with ordering them…
I have nearly always had glass lenses, but they are nearly impossible to get now… after much discussion, plastic lenses, made in Canada, were ordered and would likely take about three weeks to arrive…
my current lenses have a slub on the right side… the purpose was to help my eyes focus as the prescription in the eyes is so different… we are going to try something else this time, so will see how it goes…
on Tuesday I got a call that the glasses were in and scheduled an appointment for Wednesday…
went in, had them adjusted, tested the magnetic sunglasses clip, and brought them home… loving the purple case, lol…
I am getting used to them and can see better, which is the most important thing;-)…
