one of my favourite meals out is chicken livers with potato pancakes, bacon and sour cream…

not exactly the best thing for me but a lovely treat now and again…

the Original Pancake House makes this delight, but one of their restaurants doesn’t have it on the menu and that was the last one I was at… of course I always forget they don’t have this item…

yesterday we found a new location as we were heading into Costco off Kenaston… it is much more modern that the others…  didn’t take a picture so pulled this one off the internet… 

we weren’t sure we had time as we were on a bit of a schedule, but in the end stopped in… for a few minutes I didn’t see this in the menu, but then I found it…

yay…

  
not very vegetable friendly, but I ate extra veggies at supper time, lol… and got to bring half home which I enjoyed for my lunch today…

comfortable restaurant and the service was fairly quick… often the other locations can be a little on the slow side…

will go back again…

came to my daughter’s house after work for a sleepover…

helped decorate cupcakes for the nine boys (ages 6 and 7) who came to the birthday party…

  
they were made to look like little bags of popcorn… very cute…

the theme of the party was movies… 

hot dogs were eaten with French fries and ketchup and then they watched a movie in the basement, for nearly an hour, eating popcorn and candy…  

then they lost interest in that… the next treat was root beer floats… a large number of them didn’t like root beer, ice cream, candy or cupcakes… strange…

  
then there were presents… yay…

finally out came the cupcakes and happy birthday singing…

  
now, they are all gone… it is quiet… 

we are recuperating…

missing my beloved today…

first thing the toilet was acting up… time was when I would just tell him about it and he would fix whatever the problem was…

not these days…

had to dig out the appropriate equipment and solve the problem myself…

last weekend I had to go and find a different shovel so my shoveler can get down to the cement, and salt, so he could make sure the ground isn’t crazy slippery… also had to pick up a few bulbs so I could replace some burnt out ones…

I find choosing bulbs a very difficult job… there are so many and they seem to be similar but when you get them home they don’t throw the amount of light you expect, or are the wrong strength, or colour… arghhhh…

thankfully my son-in-law helped pick them and looks like they will all work…

many days I just do whatever needs doing, but other days I can barely keep from crying because he isn’t here…

today I happened to read a blog I wrote a year ago… it was all about flowers and how they have always lifted my spirits… also talked about how my beloved made sure there were lots around during January and February…

every morning it is lighter… makes me so happy… took this picture as I stepped out the door…

  
sun shone for a good portion of the day… as I drove downtown the sun lit up the windows of the Hydro building…

  
but, as the afternoon progressed, the snow started falling… it was still falling when I left the office…

  
I had a great time cleaning off the car and taking pictures of snowflakes… temperature wasn’t too cold and I  enjoyed about fifteen amazing minutes focussing on getting some great shots…

  
had to clean it again at the end because it was snowing the whole time… what fun…

when I arrived home I took out my camera and spent another few minutes catching snowflakes…

between the light and the snowflake photos it was a glorious day…

today I had lunch at Promenade Cafe and Wine... excellent mussels and fries… yummy…

  
took me half an hour to walk there but only twenty minutes to get back, lol… there were some icy patches but on the whole the walkways were clear…

great to spend time with a good friend…

had a peek at the Great Ice Show Winnipeg as I walked past it… looks big and beautiful…

after work went for a pedicure with two colleagues…

after the spa… two pedicures and one manicure later… we went to Ripe Bistro and Lounge for dinner…

  
had an interesting salad and three mini seafood sliders… made me giggle because I was surprised when they came on buns, duh…

  
lovely evening and our opportunity to debrief after a big event…

enjoyed a gorgeous ice sculpture out the window of the restaurant and discovered that the chef had carved it…

up early to head to the clinic for an A1C blood test… see the doctor next week…

always park a ways from the clinic and walk to get a bit more exercise… the sidewalk was terribly slippery… on my way back, sadly an hour later, I chose the road as a safer way to travel…

after the test I went to the Assiniboine hotel for breakfast, as I’d been fasting…

put on those big girl pants and ate on my own…

  
did a bit of shopping and picked up valentine treats for the boys and even mini eggs for Easter… 

  
now to put them in a safe place that I will remember on the 14th, lol…

also picked up a couple of tops… lots of black and white out there, but no purple…

  
had a nap and went to a gathering for supper and the evening… lovely dinner and interesting conversation with some very special women… we were all careful as we arrived and departed to watch our footing so there wouldn’t be any falls… lots of ice under the light dusting of snow…

another excellent day off…

yesterday I walked over to the Park and took a few shots along the river…

  
although it was overcast the snow looked so pretty…

also took a picture of where our favourite tree stood…

  
the bench in this shot is right where the tree was… Dutch elm disease… very sad…

overcast again today and when we were out we looked at orchids at IKEA… we talked about the amazing orchid I’d purchased there so many months ago…

excellent day…

walked to the Park and met a friend for breakfast… nearly drove because it has been quite slippery, but I decided to take enough time to walk slowly…

  
it was above zero and beautiful weather for a stroll… 

one of the newer pieces of technology that I really appreciate is the countdown timer at stop lights… rather than just having a flashing red hand you can see how many seconds you have left to make it across the street…

 
really appreciate this particularly at the corner by the Park… not nearly as stressful to get across the road…

so excited to look outside and see my solar dragonflies lit up…

  
haven’t been on for months so it means the sun is getting stronger… woohoo…

and just a few minutes before I had looked out the window to see this…

  
spectacular… not five minutes later I walked by and the sky was normal blue…

nature is really putting on a show these days, lol…

my usual pattern after work is to watch The Chew before making dinner… on Monday, when I watched the PVRed program, Michael Symon made a dish with salmon, Brussels sprouts, sweet potato, coconut milk and cilantro…

as it happened, I had a piece of salmon in the fridge that I’d taken out for my supper, and all the other items as well… I didn’t have sweet potato, but had a leftover baked potato so I substituted that…

  
had a few leftover roasted peppers and mushrooms from our family supper the night before, so warmed them up as well…

it was delicious…  

used half of the coconut milk and put the rest into the fridge…

this morning I took out another salmon fillet and decided to make the recipe again… I really liked it…

tonight I used Brussels sprouts and mushrooms instead of potatoes… delicious again…

  
simply cooked foods are my norm… cook the fish in a pan or bake it in the oven and then have some veggies to go along with it… don’t usually fancy my food up, lol…

I have really enjoyed this so may try to perk up a few other staples…

had fun taking pictures of the ever blooming orchid… this is a great close up… I have had this for months and the flowers are still lovely… some days I wonder if it is silk, lol…
