over the last few days we have had a variety of weather… really cold days, with a nasty windchill, and slightly warmer ones… then there was time when the snow was melting… crazy…  

there has been quite a bit of overcast sky… on Sunday I caught this picture of the backyard… the bunny is just under the trees…

 
everything was covered in a dusting of snow and looked so pretty…

later in the day the bird feeders in the front yard took centre stage…

  
Monday, the sun was out and I got a couple of shots of it going down behind the clouds across the creek…

 

last evening as I was waiting for a ride to aquasize I spent a lovely few minutes watching the clouds scoot across the sky as the sun was travelling down…

often when I am waiting for a ride I have my phone in hand and am focussing on two or three things at the same time…

not this time… wonderful… 

A1C…

had my doctor’s appointment today with my GP… great news was that my A1C was the same as the last test, 3 months ago… I had been a bit worried because I felt I slipped a little over Christmas…

feel confident that I can eat as I have been and not be worried all the time that I am messing up… this is very good news and should help me relax about my food intake…

my cholesterol is up a tiny bit, but not enough to consider drugs, thankfully.. and my blood pressure is good…

all in all a great appointment… 

packing up my diabetes strips and lancets to give to a colleague… if I need them again it will be down the road and I will get items that aren’t expired…

  
also spent some time cleaning the cabinet under the bathroom sink… dumped out a bunch of out-of-date items and made a bit of space… will have to drop the stuff off at the drug store in the next while… they are able to dispose of it properly…

started my day with a great breakfast… even had a rose on my tray…

  
the sun was hiding behind some haze for most of the day…

 
had a relaxed morning and then went downstairs to do some time on the treadmill…

haven’t been walking as much lately so was happy that I got moving, lol…

for a while now I’ve been wanting to rearrange the furniture in the basement, so today while I was down there I had an extra workout and did a little furniture moving…

that treadmill is kind of heavy… luckily the sectional wasn’t joined together although it does have fasteners to connect the pieces, so it wasn’t overly heavy… next time the kids are over I will get them to help me link the pieces… more comfortable when everything is attached…

  
kind of pleased with how it came out… missed George as I was working away, but I also got to do it exactly the way I wanted it, lol…

finished the lobster from last night in a huge salad for lunch…

  
really tasty with the lemon dressing from last night…

been glued to the tv as all the Grammy shows have been on… great fun to see who’s there and what the colours being worn are…

had a lovely time yesterday decorating the living room and dining room for Valentine’s Day dinner with the kids…

  
ran out to two different grocery stores in the cold and was home in just over an hour with all the goodies I needed…

instead of steak and lobster, which is our usual special dinner, I decided on a roast with a lobster salad… that way no one would have to go out and bbq the dinner, as I could do all of it inside…

prepared everything today and even had time to sit and read for a bit before the kids arrived… dressed in red, lol…

  
followed a new recipe for the roast which was a little rare, but we finished some of it in the microwave for those who like it a bit more done…  
came out very well… although the little boys weren’t fond of the lemon dressing in the lobster salad (another new recipe)… which was odd because they love lemons…

then we had chocolate mousse cake for dessert… it was a big hit…

  
this is one of my favourite recipes, but I haven’t made it in a very long time… still delicious… I was very good and only had a tiny slice… the boys all had two pieces… they really liked it, lol…

recently heard a report on the radio about synchronization of the street lights in the city…

this was one of George’s pet peeves and he often commented on how the lights were out of kilter…

  
the commentators talked about the fact that our lights have never been synchronized…. apparently they will be by December, 2016… we are one of the last cities to make this happen…

made me laugh because George assumed they were on a system but just never worked right…

bet he’s chuckling over this, lol…

I have celebrated all the special days of the year forever and I love doing that… miss my beloved who also enjoyed holidays, particularly Valentine’s Day… he always made sure that both of the girls and I got roses… I often wear the jacket that he gave me on our last Valentine’s day… 

had roses delivered to the office for my colleagues…

  
put them out so everyone could choose one… did it yesterday as four of them were not in today…

  
I enjoy surprising people with treats and they are an amazing group of individuals so it makes me very happy to show them how special each of them is…

  
it is always such fun to see which one each person chooses… makes me happy…

today after lunch when I got back to the office from yoga there was a card and gift on my desk…

  
the card was filled with lovely expressions of thanks from all my colleagues, and a gift certificate to Thermea…

  
what a wonderful surprise… brought me to tears… as I said, a special group of individuals…

a very special Valentine memory…

had a bit of a giggle today… saw the most beautiful soap slices on the counter in the washroom…

  
sadly, the aroma overpowered me… won’t be using that particular washroom for the next while… but the colours were beautiful…

tonight I made a portobello burger for my supper… 

  
the mushrooms were soaked in a marinade for about an hour and then baked in the oven for twenty minutes…

  
delicious…

this is the second time I’ve made this recipe… and I’ve been pleasantly surprised as to how great it tastes… didn’t miss meat at all… wasn’t sure when I sliced it in half if it would topple over, though… used up the last of the ciabatta buns…

really happy with the way I am using up all of my food purchases without waste… preplanning my meals has certainly helped me make use of everything I cook…

lots of special things today…

stunning sunrise as I was getting ready…

  
sure do enjoy these beautiful moments… great start to the day… as I drove out of the driveway I enjoyed the crunch of the tires on the snow… a sure sign that it is really cold…

midway through the morning a package arrived for me and in it were some beautiful glass spoons… happily they were not crunched from the trip…

   
 
another nice treat… ordered two as the lovely one that my friend brought me back from Nova Scotia got broken… now I have a spare…

and on my way home I stopped in at Canadian Tire and had hubcaps put on Shadow’s wheels… just took a few minutes and  they look way prettier than the not so pretty winter tires… a colleague made the suggestion… why didn’t I think of this before…

 

and I think Shadow likes them too…

missed getting a picture of the sunset… saw it as I was driving home, and then got busy in the kitchen… when I went to take a picture, this was all I got, lol…

the mornings continue to get lighter, which makes my heart sing…

heading out to the car I took a few moments to take some pictures of the hoarfrost designs on the garage windows… so pretty…

  
the sun was shining brightly as I drove downtown…the blues in the sky were amazing…

throughout the day the sun cast beautiful designs on the floors and ceiling… makes a person feel warm and cozy… 

on my drive home had to use the visor because the sun was still shining so brightly…

  
stopped in and got a haircut and when I arrived home it was still bright outside…   

 
sunlight makes me happy…

it snowed on Thursday and Sunday… and there was lots of blowing yesterday… my shoveler wasn’t able to get over, so tonight he met me at work and rode home with me…

he cleaned the paths and driveway after a short hand warming break…

  
looks great after it had all been tidied up… also happy to see that the solar lights are getting enough sunlight to turn on at night…

then we had supper together and a short visit before he took the bus home…

supper was the leftover chili which I had made for our family dinner last night, but the kids ended up staying at home…

I had listened to a show on chili making and decided to make this chili with kidney beans, mushrooms and some ground veggie burger with onion and diced tomato… used garlic, cumin, oregano and chili powder… just tossed things into the pot without measuring… 

came out very nice… he liked it, even when I told him it was veggie burger meat… he has quite an adventurous palate…  sent him home with a bag of red lentils… the last time we had dinner together he loved a red lentil recipe I’d made and wanted the recipe, lol… now he can make it at home for the family…

nice to spend time with him…
