the butterfly bushes are so close to opening, although it feels like they are teasing me…
when I come out in the morning, I think, today’s the day…
but no…
finally, they are starting to bloom, although still not completely open;-)…
they are a stunning deep purple…

I’ve spent most of the last week in the garden…
I have watered the grass and the plants and even done a bit of deadheading and weeding…
watched birds, bunnies, baby squirrels, and the goldfish…
and I have read at least one novel a day as I move around the garden to find shade…
retirement is quite a lovely thing;-)…

Wednesday was a busy day…
got the bathtub pond up and running…
then climbed into the main pond to clean out the pump…
after lunch my son-in-law and middle grandson came by… one levelled the waterfall stone so that water doesn’t leak out and need to be replaced as much… he also spread soil in the front, filled containers and tidied up the dirt pile…
the other mowed and whipper snipped the front and garden, including along the lane (sometimes we forget about that area)… he also helped with the soil cleanup…
they left, and the oldest grandson arrived to take me downtown where I got vaccinated for the second time;-)… as a treat we got ice cream cones on the way home;-)…
once home he changed a leaky hose and carried many boxes of books to the front step for pickup… we put them in plastic bags because they weren’t being picked up until Friday, but were too heavy for me to move, lol…
really was a busy one…

watching the grass grow has taken on a whole new meaning, lol…
and it is coming along nicely;-)… there has been lots of watering…
Wednesday it got mowed and the garden looks so much tidier…
still going to be a while before it is fully grown in…

what a wonderful afternoon yesterday… although it was hot, my garden designer came and spent a few hours rearranging pots and plants and other goodies…
we moved, and moved items again, until the garden looked just so…
a few jobs left for my grandson when he comes next… lifting a few heavy things and digging in a few lights…
what fun to have a fresh set of eyes… and someone who is perfectly fine if I don’t care for the placement of items…
I think the garden is happy too…

I am loving my new hose…
it reaches to the front step with ease and I can also get to all the plants and pots in the shade garden as well…
lots of room to get to each of the hanging baskets to give them a drink…
I’ve been having fun trying different routes with it, to see which ones I like the best…
and it barely takes up any room when it is put away… unlike the old one which wouldn’t hang properly as it had a mind of its own, lol…
yay…

yesterday morning I was out in the garden planting peas and beans…
there is something growing in one of the pots which I don’t recognize, but maybe as it grows I will get a hint…
expecting some rain so hope that will help get them started…

happy I took a walk around the garden before the thunderstorm…
this is a self-seeded columbine… they have wandered around the shade garden over the years… so far this year I’ve found two…
we really got a good downpour… I watched it pour over the water barrel as it was coming down so hard and fast…
not sure how the flowers faired afterwards, lol…

woke up to twelve open poppies yesterday…
was quite surprised as they usually open one or two at a time…
they look lovely, particularly with the reflection in the pond…
the goldfish add to the pretty orange colours, lol…
can’t stop taking photos of them…

I’ve been checking around for purple butterfly bush with no success… last year I was able to get some from a local nursery, but they haven’t been able to acquire any this season…
eventually I found some online at Home Depot, so I ordered them… wasn’t sure what I would get, but was hopeful…
Friday, two boxes were delivered and the plants looked good…
I decided to keep them in the house until later in the day, when I put them in a shady spot to get used to being outside…
very happy with the purchase… hoping they enjoy their new homes in the garden…
