slamming…

while he was here, my son-in-law searched online for a spring for the patio door to replace the one which had broken ages ago…

he found one, ordered it, and it arrived on Friday, well after he left for home… there were no instructions, but I figured out how it should work…

it came with stickers to hold it to the wall and door, but they wouldn’t work for my situation…

I dug out two screws that were just the right size… from all the containers in the garage, lol… then I found a drill bit to start the holes so the wood wouldn’t split…

used the sticker as a template and made the holes… then was able to get the screws in and the hook as well…

it is working well, although it makes quite a slamming noise when it closes, so I will have to get used to that;-)…

going to be fun to see how the kids react😁…

sharpening…

last time we used my hair scissors, my friend advised they had lost their ability to cut, lol…

I’ve been looking for new ones and asking around about getting them sharpened, but with no success…

we’ve started going to the Wolseley Farmers Market and I realized a few days ago that there was a person who sharpened knives… I texted to see if he dealt with scissors and he responded that he did…

I took them with me when we went and he did a great job… he also let me know they were very good ones and would be excellent when he finished sharpening them;-)…

it was interesting to watch his process and see all the steps required to make them good as new…

thanks Bret;-)…

so excited last Wednesday to discover a water lily bud… I had pretty much given up hope of seeing one this year…

throughout the day I took photos as it worked towards opening…

it was at its peak on Saturday…

today it is getting ready to slide under the water… as the next bud begins to open…

what a wonderful treat as we move into cooler weather…

talk about blessed…

went into the cupboard over the fridge and checked on my current avocado pit

weeks ago I had put it into a plastic bag with a bit of water, set it up there, and forgot about it… now it was ready…

chose a nice mug container and dug out a used plastic pot that would fit inside it…

popped in some stones and soil… then planted the pit which had cracked in half and had a bunch of roots on the bottom…

looking forward to watching it grow…

took this shot from the side garden the other day…

it brought to mind how that garden has looked over the years…

it used to be a shade garden and my beloved would wander into it and weed all the time…

after he died the tree that provided the shade was taken down… I ignored this space and for a number of years it was basically a weed patch, yikes…

once Hilda the Gardener came it started to improve and over the last few years we have focussed on it a bit more, lol…

last year we added the file cabinet raised bed and it has worked beautifully…

I am now looking for a garden arch trellis that will go from the raised bed to the wall of the house… it will give the peas and cucumbers a better place to grow on…

I think it will be a great addition once I find it, hopefully by spring…

drilling…

last week, the back on one of the lawn chairs came loose… I put in a few screws but the final hole didn’t have a spot for the screw to attach to…

I used the metal drill bit to make holes and then a screwdriver bit to put in the screws on each of the chairs…

my son-in-law had some helpful suggestions on the process to produce the holes…

those big girl pants seem to be fitting rather well these days…

last Saturday, after I got home from dropping my son-in-law at the airport, I wrestled the mattress upstairs … it was on the pullout couch while he was here to make it more comfortable for him…

that returned the den to normal…

Sunday I lay a comforter on the bed, got the mattress on top and secured the four corners… then I was able to move the bed away from the wall and slip the mattress behind it…

sounds a lot easier than it actually was, lol…

pleased with the results and rather proud that I did it on my own…

those big girl pants;-)…

my bouquet subscription has come to an end and I came across this post I had written about my birthday bouquet…

I had an enjoyable time redoing it… this is how it looked on my birthday…

I removed the roses once they were spent…

it was time to do something new and this is what it became on May fourth…

used a cute teapot and a small glass for the next life of the bouquet…

added some of the statice to a container that was already filled…

and finally, used the container the flowers came in to set a cute new plant I recently purchased…

it is always such fun to change out the flowers as the bouquet ages, lol…

some great memories;-)…

drywall…

the last few days while my son-in-law was here were focused on the ceiling in the basement where drywall was being reinstalled…

it had been taken down a number of years ago when he installed a Nest thermostat for me on the main floor and new wires had to be run…

it was in the back area and didn’t bother me, but it was on his list to repair…

he did a great job and it looks quite wonderful now…

3M…

my son-in-law completed a ton of big projects while he has been here from Ottawa…

a couple of the littlest ones have made me particularly happy…

I have had an extension cord and a single plug laying on the counter next to the stove and it was a pain… now there is a surge protector held up with 3M strips on the wall… so much tidier and more useful…

in the rolling cabinet that my beloved made, the tracks for the sliding doors kept falling down… now some 3M strips are holding them up where they belong…

little things can make such a big impact…
