what a busy day we had on Thursday… didn’t even have time for a nap, although I did manage a short sit down in the garden before my grandson arrived…

he and I spent the day getting jobs done around the yard, and even a few in the house…

we ran out and were able to get all the necessary items at Canadian Tire, so it was a one stop shopping expedition…

things came out of and went into the shed… leaking hoses were repaired… an irrigation system semi-installed… pots moved… trellises put into a planter that had a bit of paint touch up done… and the fire pit problem solved…

what a treat it is to spend time with him… I try to savour every minute;-)…

well, well, well… went plant shopping with Hilda the Gardener…

basically it took the entire day and we went to five different nurseries

what fun… she knows where all the best plants are at each location and has a great sense of what looks good together…

I was also happy to discover that three of them had pond plants and I was able to get a container with three different plants in it…

once we had purchased everything (lol) we had lunch out and discussed our plans…

planting is likely going to happen on Saturday, unless I decide to start on the planters around the deck… although I’m not sure I remember which plants are going where;-)…

just after we unloaded all the loot and I had come into the house it poured for about half an hour…

great timing on our part…

on Tuesday, my grandson arrived with his bike in the back of the car…

he had spent hours over the weekend getting the inside and outside of Indi cleaned for me…

I had spent the morning finding space in the garage so that she would fit as she has returned home… very exciting…

looking good…

started my day with a Duo call from the kids in Ottawa… they have been without power since the wild storm on Saturday…

they were at the Canadian Science and Technology Museum testing wifi as she had a video meeting… the Museum is just a short walk from their house, has plugs all around the outside of the building (technology), and the wifi gave an excellent video call, so that was very handy… I was the test for the meeting, lol…

while they waited for the phones to charge she was teaching him how to play Rummy… it was the card game we played for hours as we sat in the hospital with my mom as she was dying… we laughed about him needing to know how to play when they sit at my deathbed… way in the future…

we talk most days, but don’t often video call… it is always lovely to see their beautiful faces… and it was fun to show them the garden…

wonderful way to begin the day…

this afternoon my neighbour on the south side came by with the cutest birdhouse for me…

last year he took down and rebuilt a new fence between us… and then he made some bird houses with the leftover wood

it is very cute… I’ve never had one so now I will have to figure out where to put it…

tonight, he and his partner brought over their four month old baby to meet me… he is adorable and I look forward to playing with him over the summer…

first baby snuggles I’ve had in over two years…

great fun on this Victoria Day…

headed outside this morning and cleaned the glass table-top… I swept the decks, moved furniture around, found cushions and blankets and brought the plants out of the garage…

then I had a sit down by the pond;-)…

got coffee, pistachios, and almonds ready for my BS group… our first in-person gathering since the fall…

everyone arrived with various delicious treats and we had a wonderful visit…

we went from sunny… to cloudy… to windy… and back to sunny… a few times… birds flitted about and jackets came on and off as required, lol…

just after everyone had gone, and the space was back to normal, it started to spit…

perfect timing;-)…

went shopping with a friend a few days ago…

we went to Black Market Provisions and found a few fun things…

from there we had lunch at The Oakwood… I had salmon dill Eggs Benedict, which I’ve been craving recently, and my friend had a roast turkey sandwich… very nice…

we also checked out a few stores for some outdoor furniture that I’ve been looking at online… of course no one had it in the store…

was dropped off at home and had a nap…

all that shopping and being out and about was exhausting, lol…

I watched a Ducks Unlimited webinar a few days ago on dragonflies and damselflies…

it was interesting and I learned some new things about them… I also learned more about iNaturalist, a free app that I have on the phone…

up until now, I’ve usually used Merlin to search out a species, whether birds or other creatures… going forward I will try to use iNaturalist to record what I find… and I will be what they call a citizen scientist, lol…

recorded this little flycatcher… first time I’ve seen one of them;-)…

spent a delightful hour with Hilda the Gardener a few days ago…

we discussed our plans about what will go where in the garden as well as some options for variety this year… even just talking about how the garden might look is energizing…

she brought me shoots from her spider plant which I have now put in water and set on the rooting ledge, lol…

and we set a date to go plant shopping together… not sure if this is a good thing or a very bad thing🤪… her vehicle has lots of room in it…

so much fun…

aerated…

I was a bit surprised after the lawns were aerated

I didn’t realize it would look as if someone dug the whole space up and now the area is covered in mud…

it appeared to be hard work as the person was muscling the machine from place to place…

can’t wait to see if this will make a difference…
