inside…

in preparation for the colder weather I’ve now brought in the three plants that live in the house…

last week the Japanese maple came in and settled back in beside the living room window… the leaf colours had already started to change

a few days back, the mandevilla came in… I added fresh earth and sprayed it with insecticide to remove any creepy crawlers that might have wanted to take a trip…

it had been hanging outside and really wanted to lean forward… eventually three elastics helped make it stand up straight… hope it doesn’t decide to fall over in the dining room…

yesterday I brought the hibiscus inside…. excited to see it has buds on it;-)…

might also bring in a couple of others to see if they can survive the winter in the house…

and tonight I’ve covered the dahlias… the temperature is likely going to -4 Celsius… four of them have buds and I’m hoping they get to open… for two of them, it will be the first time they bloom and I am interested to see how they look…

my grandson came by to get the fish tank ready for the goldfish to come into their condo…

the pump had stopped working in the spring and we hadn’t dealt with it over the summer… he ran it over to the fish store and they discovered the problem and it is fine now…

the tank had lots of dirty water in it and we tried various disgusting methods to empty it… after a number of ideas failed, we brought in the wet-vac and it worked great…

it is now empty and all of the bits and pieces have been scrubbed and are waiting to go back in… next week he will bring some new purple gravel and we will get it set up…

likely around Thanksgiving we will bring the fish in;-)…

the other day I received a Google Nest Mini in the mail… it was a gift for joining a program…

after thinking about it for a short time, I decided to put it in the den… the other option was the laundry room, but I’ve been spending more time watching TV in the den, so we will see how it goes…

I didn’t even have to read the how-to instructions to set it up… the process is easy and it connects with all the others seamlessly…

hey Google;-)…

spent a good portion of the afternoon in the garden… I was particularly watching the birds as I thought I’d spotted a rose-breasted grosbeak at the feeder from inside the house…

it was a lovely time… lots of bird and fish watching…

one of the things I’ve noticed is that the waterfall sounds different depending on how clear the line is…

when there is no debris in it it is quiet…

when there is algae and the odd stick in it, the sound is much louder…

I usually have a large skewer behind it that I use to clean the waterfall mechanism, but it appears to be gone… wondering if a crow came by and took it, lol… today I used a twig that had come down from the elm tree next door…

received a chocolate tasting package from my daughter months ago…

we finally got together via Google Duo and did the tasting together… the last time I participated in one was over Christmas in her dining room… it was set up beautifully…

this one was certainly different… I didn’t think to put them on a pretty plate, but did have them lined up and with the note pages… in the end I felt very happy and enjoyed what I had learned… she really helped me discover the different notes of the five pieces of chocolate;-)…

my favourite was a Qantu 70% Chuncho bar…

next time it would be fun to have a few other people participate and hear their thoughts;-)…

had my quarterly doctor’s appointment yesterday…

nowadays it involves a bit of organizing… once I have the date, I have to go a week beforehand for my blood work… which means that my grandson and I have to sort out when I can get the car back twice

yesterday morning he brought it early and went for a bike ride while I went for my appointment…

we met up at home and there was just enough time for him to run out and pick up breakfast for me before he headed off… a nice treat…

it is a bit of a pain to sort out when I need the car, but his having it and doing any shopping that I need is so helpful during these COVID times…

he’s planning to come over on Sunday, clean the aquarium and run out and replace the dead pump so it is ready for the fish to move in… time seems to be flying by…

we are also going to have lunch;-)… talk about being blessed

lately the geese have flown over the house honking at all times of the day… it is a sure sign that summer is nearing its end, and a sound that I love to hear…

walked over by the Park this morning with my daughter (on the phone) and watched geese going over…

also took a few photos of a pair of geese who were right beside the walkway and happy to pose

they were not in the least perturbed by people walking so close to them… not sure if that is good or bad…

the weather has taken quite a turn… for the last few days it has been mainly sunny but rather chilly

so, I’ve barely been out to the garden, or the world… I’ve even done most of my walking on the treadmill…

a bit of a preview to what the next six or seven months are likely going to be…

and I’m not sure I’m liking it…

today I did go out and spray the hibiscus with a soapy solution which should remove any little bugs… I decided to only test the solution on one plant… just in case, lol…

will see how it looks tomorrow before I spray the rest;-)…

recently it was pointed out to me that I don’t show much of my garden on Instagram

that is because I usually focus on close ups of the flowers in the garden, lol…

when I joined Instagram my focus was photos of flowers and I have continued to concentrate on that theme over the years with the odd picture of critters and chocolate included…

this is rather funny as I spend most of my days in this renewing space…

a few days ago I took a number of photos in the garden once all the cushions were out and then put them up in my Stories…

it was a fun process and I had to relearn how to do a few things;-)…

now there are Highlights of the garden… of course the funny thing is that the garden is not at its best as we are moving into Fall… maybe next year I can start earlier in the season so others can see this sanctuary throughout the entire summer…

I love my garden and wonder how this crazy summer would have been without it…
