sand…

my middle grandson came over Sunday to help replace the carpet on the front steps… of course it poured so that didn’t happen…

instead he did a final sand of the drywall in the laundry area and gave it two coats of paint…

what a difference it makes, and it looks so fresh with the white paint…

today we put everything back… those dressers were heavy…

finally used my housemate’s electric sander to remove the majority of the peeling blue paint from what had been a fountain…

eventually it turned into a planter, but started peeling like crazy…

it has been sitting under the deck, where I could ignore it, for quite some time…

didn’t take too long once I got going to sand it down so it can be painted…

I do love purple, but the sun changes it to blue over time… still not quite sure what colour it is going to be… hmmm…

recently, as I was watching my grandson leaving the garage, I realized that he was having to struggle with all the virginia creeper that was attempting to take over the doorway, lol…

so, I brought out a pail, put on my gloves, and used the clippers to make the space a little more open…

from there I went to the side gate and did a fair bit of trimming as it was getting difficult to get to the tap and hose…

much more accessible now;-)…

then I had a sit down and did some reading, lol…

walked over to Ultracuts for a trim and on the way spotted a plant that had not been put into the soil in one of the big city planters…

I didn’t want to arrive at the salon with dirty hands so I decided to wait until I was on the way home…

when I did arrive back at the planter, it was clear that the plant had not been planted as it was just laying on the soil… I had wondered if a critter had maybe pulled it out of its spot…

I dug a hole and popped it in… hope it is happy now…

my housemate took the car in this morning for new front brakes… we are trying out a garage that a friend recommended…

it took about four hours and then we got the call it was ready…

he had gone to work, so I ordered my first Uber to go and pick it up…

it came in about three minutes, was clean, and the driver was dressed professionally… seven minutes got me there…

the estimate and final bill for the new brakes matched and the car drives well… the brakes don’t feel any different…

happy to have found this new service station which is closer than Toyota;-)…

did some work on the small pond pumps, which are used to move the water in the bathtub pond and add more oxygen in the main pond…

climbed into the pond and brought the pump onto the edge of the deck and cleaned out all the gunk that was in it and then put it back into the pond…

brought up the second pump and after climbing into the bathtub pond, got it set in the correct spot so it wouldn’t send the water out of the pond… then it was turned on and that pond was topped up…

now there won’t be any issues with mosquitoes and I’m going to add a few more plants to that one…

the garden is coming along nicely…

sprouting…

quite awhile ago the last of the plants made their way into the garden, either in pots, or the ground…

I’ve been watching daily to see if things are sprouting out of the planters… so far, three of the dahlias have popped up, but one has not, and it was the one I was most looking forward to, lol…

the strawberry that had gone into the ground in the fall has moved into a pot and has quite a few blossoms on it… as well as the beginnings of berries…

I painted rocks red to hopefully keep the birds from eating the berries before we get to them…

apparently the birds will go for the red rocks and decide that red things aren’t worth it, lol…

puddling…

the pond has continued to leak but we thought we had the problem figured out…

water seemed to be puddling under a UV clarifier which was installed in the pond at the beginning, but which never accomplished its job and has been unplugged for a number of years…

we picked up a piece to connect the two hoses together and with a lot of cutting and muscle, were able to disconnect it entirely… so happy, thinking the problem had been solved…

turned the pump back on and watched water still coming out where the hose goes under blocks and the deck…

so, the issue appears to be that the six or seven feet of hose from the pump to the waterfall needs to be replaced… we are considering ways to accomplish this, which may involve removing a good sized piece of the deck to get at it, sigh…

and so it goes…
