the last few days I’ve been watching the sky on my travels to and from the office…

a few mornings the sun has been sending rays through the clouds… of course I never get to take pictures on the drive…

this particular picture is from the night we went to a soccer game close to me… the sky that night was a show of great views… in the end the game was cancelled due to lightning… I really liked the sun shining down through the clouds…

the sun against the blue sky in the evenings has been lovely as well…

I was looking through my photos to find a picture that would show the beauty…

the pinks and blues of this shot last Friday don’t really replicate the amazing colour that evening…

it is always wonderful to take the time to enjoy the beauty around us…

more and more I focus on those moments

was talking with someone recently about the difficulty of cooking for one…

cooking for one is definitely different and certainly takes more thought, preparation and effort… really easy to have a bowl of popcorn instead…

my technique is to make enough for two meals and then have leftovers for lunch or supper the next day…

I’ve been trying to think about what I will have in the evening and take whatever I’ve decided on out for supper in the morning before leaving for the office…

the plan for tonight was to cook a couple of herb and garlic sausages and pick up a bun to put one of them in…

stopped at the bakery but they didn’t have a single stick of bread left… great for them, but not so good for me, lol…

then it was off to the grocery store to pick up a few buns… also found a nice steak, some chicken and a bit of hamburger…

came home, cooked the sausages, added Smak Dab mustard, Miracle Whip, grated onion and lettuce to a whole wheat bun… it was delicious…

and I have enough to make another bun for my lunch…

have spent the last hour or so trying to record my iPhone screen so that I can show the steps necessary to complete a particularly task… interesting learning process…

sounds really simple, except for when you go too fast, or slow… or someone sends you a text, or Twitter let’s you know someone is tweeting after a long time… all in the middle of the recording

then, after all that, when I emailed it, the video was a bit fuzzy…

but, I think I’ve got it;-)…

spent the day in the garden… was up early with a quiet hot tub as the sun rose

did quite a bit of weeding in amongst watering, reading and resting… took a number of photos along the way… always nice at the end of the day to remember what it looked like at the beginning;-)…

planted some butterfly bushes although they don’t really look very lively and potted up the last of the plants I’d bought recently… I was very happy when I came across the bushes because they are difficult to find as they are annuals here, not perennials, which is what the packaging always says…

had all three meals in the garden with a short nap in the house…

enjoyed the time out there, even the weeding

been watching ads on tv for the Red River Ex, which is always a sign of summer…

they brought back some wonderful memories…

when our kids were in baton – so, quite a few years ago – my beloved and I worked at the gates welcoming guests… it was fun and paid well for the four or five years we participated… always so interesting to see how people present themselves…

people were either thrilled and happy to be there or irritated beyond belief, lol…

the other piece it reminded me of is how often it rains during the Ex, lol… rain suits were a staple… should be good for the garden…

fun memories

took this picture last week;-)…

Tuesday morning I texted my son-in-law to see if he could stop by and check out the dishwasher

the day before it had stopped working… the powdered soap was still in it and it looked like it had run without water…

I had tried to turn it off and on without success so had contacted him as he is very good with small motors

it took a few days for me to wash everything that was in it… I don’t mind washing dishes… except glasses, never feel as though they get clean…

he didn’t make it over until this afternoon… at first he thought it was dead, but then he fiddled with a few things and discovered something was stuck and once he popped it back down the dishwasher worked

it just finished running through a cycle

yay;-)…

been thinking about poppies

over the last forty years we’ve always had poppies in the garden… some years there would be fifteen or twenty … other years, maybe three…

the spring following George’s death there were over fifty…

it was amazing and so beautiful… seemed like he was here with me…

this year there are plants, but not a single bloom

so happy this morning as I was able to top up the pond easily

over the winter the connection at the wall had broken so that only one hose could be hooked up instead of the two I need…

this meant that every time the pond needed water I had to drag out the hose to fill it and then drag it back to put it away… which usually ended up with my hands black from the hose and smelling like rubber…

looked for quite a while to find a replacement and eventually found one last week… on Sunday my grandson was over and hooked it up for me…

excited when I arrived home tonight and found the fish out and about in the pond…

happy they are finally more comfortable and connecting to the space…

was able to take pictures of flowers today which always brightens my day…

when I first stepped out of the house this morning the fuchsia was so stunning that it stopped me in my tracks… had to take a some photos…

there are a number of small bouquets in the office and I was able to wander around and get a few shots…

and then I spotted the blooms getting ready to open on one of the African violets in my office…

flowers make me happy and I was pleased to be able to spend a few moments enjoying the ones I came across…

have had numerous conversations recently about the imposter syndrome…

had breakfast with a dear friend and we talked about how our small group has been a lifesaver for each of us and the place where we’ve been able to discuss our feelings of inadequacy

shortly after, I was speaking with another person who had just had a preemie… their partner was spending most of each day at the hospital, but feeling guilty that she wasn’t spending enough time with their older child… the conversation turned to mother guilt… that feeling that you aren’t spending enough time, doing enough things, etc, etc, etc, for one or more of your children…

not long after that I was watching The Social and a gold medal athlete was talking about the need to believe you can do whatever it is, and not get stuck in the Ican’t do it place…

have just started to read The Secret Thoughts of Successful Women by Valerie Young… barely into it and it is ringing so true… looking forward to getting to the end;-)…

do you suffer from this syndrome too?
