sun was out again today… yay…

spent a bit of time at the window watching to see if I could spot any of the critters that have made numerous tracks through the garden…

didn’t spot any… I’m sure that some are from the squirrels and the neighbourhood cats, but maybe some are from bunnies too…

finished up the laundry from when my company was here… now towels, sheets and tablecloths are all clean and put away…

tonight I treated myself to a shortbread cookie from a friend and one of my Lindt coconut balls… they only come out at Christmas time and my daughter brought me a little collection of them…

also have some Guylian chocolates to enjoy…

being careful not to have too many treats because I don’t want my A1C to be high when I next have it tested…

this morning, while I was coming and going doing some chores around the house, I took this picture of the sun shining out the front window

I sure do love the sunshine… and take the time to enjoy it every day it is out… we don’t get as much of it as we used to

also put my orchid back on the table in the living room… it has been in amongst the garland in the dining room for the last few weeks while a hydrangea had the top spot in the living room… I left the greenery on the table when the flower died, but rearranged it today… the orchid has been blooming for months…

had a lovely lunch out with my sister-in-law, nephew and his friend… we had some very nice Vietnamese food at one of my nephew’s favourite places, KG Saigon… after tea here, she was heading to the airport for a flight to Vancouver for the remainder of her holiday… it was great to spend a bit of time together…

didn’t get photos of the whole table but these days I take pictures  of everything I eat… really helps with recording my food intake…

another shot looking out the bedroom window as the sun was going down…

always so happy when I catch these beautiful moments…

this morning I wandered around and took a few pictures of the snow

through the living room window… sun was shining… nice…

and from the dining room window… trees are very pretty…

my amaryllis is growing nicely, although no buds have started…

had a lazy day in my jammies watching tv, sleeping and eating…

seemed to be just the right thing to do…

Christmas…

woke at five, then climbed back into bed to finally get up around seven…

my son-in-law worked the overnight shift and got home about 7:15 so we had tea and waited for the rest of the family to wake up… he’d seen the beautiful full moon on his way home and heard that it won’t fall on Christmas again until 2034 and that it hadn’t happened since 1977…

so I had to go out into the middle of their street to see it and get a few photos before it vanished… didn’t have my tripod so was pleased that this one came out…

then I took a few photos of their house in the early morning light…

everyone got up, with a bit of coaxing, and we opened gifts… we all did very well…

lots of technology this year with tablets and wired headphones for the little people…

and a wireless headset for the oldest, who was visibly pleased… which, for a teenager, is pretty spectacular… well done mom and dad…

my stash included some cool technology for meal prep and a few purple items, lol…

we sat down to freshly made waffles and covered them with fresh fruit and a bit of whipping cream…

by the time we finished making them no one was left at the table, so this is a picture of what I had, lol… it was delicious

rests were had, games were played, books were read, naps were taken…

dinner was a lovely roasted chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, brussel sprouts, raw carrots and French fries made in the new fryer that only used a few tablespoons of oil…

quiet time with a bit of colouring after dinner…

home now and planning to head to bed… full day…

hoping that you were able to find some special moments in your day…

this morning I watched the sun rise from nothing to a gorgeous yellow orb…

sun isn’t quite up yet… shortly after that it peeked through the trees…

a while later it was much more visible…

and the window multiplied the reflection…

opened the upstairs window to take this one so there wasn’t any reflection…

but it had a cool sun circle around it…

finally took this shot of the gazing ball under a top hat of snow… sun was glittering off it…

haven’t had much sun for the last week or so… just revelled in it this morning… makes me feel so much better when it shines…

what a treat

it was so beautiful outside this morning…

even though it was overcast the snow covering everything made it a wonderland

love to get shots of the pergola which my beloved built along the neighbour’s garage many years ago… there are often beautiful sculptures there…

so pretty…

today both kids left for Ottawa, one flying commercial and the other via a military Christmas flight… we had a wonderful five days together but I am always sad to see them go…

heading off to Ottawa…

my BS companions came by tonight for our Christmas celebration… there were snacks, baking and gifts galore… a wonderful evening that certainly helped perk me up after the kids had gone…

I find I notice the emptiness after I’ve had company for a while… makes perfect sense, and after a few days it doesn’t feel empty… just normal:-)…

great moments have been made today and will be remembered

up early and walked over to the “A” for breakfast…

here are the kids as they waited for their breakfast…

and how they passed the time… made me giggle

cute eh…

I walked home… and my daughter took this shot of me…

was lovely out and I enjoyed the walk… the giggle was that I forgot to put my Fitbit on in the morning, so none of the steps were recorded…

been looking at this tree down the street for the better part of a week because the snow on it was very pretty…

we spent a few hours at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights where we had some fun in the XOXO exhibit…

here my daughter is making a love letter memento to give to her husband… hard work to produce it, lol…

I got to hug the Embrace which said ahhhh when it was hugged:-)…

while she was waiting for me she spotted these very pretty cream and sugar containers, but by the time we got back there, someone had purchased them…

lots of fun and giggles

busy day… tidied up from last night’s dinner and started on some healthy turkey soup and dumplings for tonight’s potluck party…

had a little time with my girl before they headed out for breakfast with another friend…

first time I watched Shadow leave without me…

the party was a great success and lovely to visit with these young people whom we have known for basically their entire lives…

the house was full of people, many in the kitchen, having lots of fun…

some of the girls visiting… the dumplings and soup were a big hit… and tasty

some story time…

early today got a lovely shot of the pergola along the garage and the lovely sculpture the snow and wind have produced…

very full day…

tonight we had Christmas dinner and exchanged gifts with our Ottawa kids…

first time that I’ve celebrated Christmas on a different day… felt very odd… a new way of being and hopefully not the norm…

we had supper after 7, which was different as well… for fun we had a bottle of champagne

the boys did not like the taste of champagne, lol, but they enjoyed some sparkling cider…

dinner was great, except for the fussy brussel sprout recipe… everything was ready ahead of time and they got over cooked…

everyone liked their gifts, we had more of the Deadly Chocolate Mousse for dessert, a final visit and the kids went home…

we are all heading to bed here… too tired for a hot tub, lol…

we got up early so my daughter could call her husband to be sure he was up… he was spending the day flying to get here… quite a circuitous route… we didn’t want him to miss his ride…

it was beautiful outside and I got this shot of the snow hanging from the neighbour’s roof…

made breakfast and then we popped out to get a few last minute groceries… my Winnipeg daughter picked us up and we went for pedicures

pretty toes for everyone… mine are purple…

nice time… one child went off visiting and the other headed home…

I had a nap and then got some prep done for our Christmas dinner tomorrow night…

started with the stuffingmy favourite… then turnip and potatoes… put some of the stuffing into muffin tins… the rest will go into the turkey…

had a lovely time watching some luge, skiing, and show jumping in between the prep work… haven’t had the opportunity to watch much sports so really enjoyed the time this afternoon…

food is ready for cooking now and first thing in the morning I will get the table set…

going to watch a few shows and then head to bed… the visitors are sleeping over with the grandkids so I will see them later tomorrow…

quiet evening:-)…
