when I flipped my Chihuly calendar to May, I was reminded of our wonderful visit to the Atlanta Botanical Garden a few years ago to see the Chihuly Installations…

the picture is a tower and reminded me of the tall yellow one where we had a picture taken by some people walking by, lol… my daughter had taken a few pictures for them just before that… it was also one that lit up at night…

I dug through old photos and found a few of my favourites from that trip…

the goddess was the reason for the trip and we spent a fair bit of time at that installation…

of all of Chihuly’s pieces, I am always most drawn to the blues… from the very first ones I saw at Chihuly Garden and Glass… here is a blog I wrote about that amazing experience…

lovely memories… wondering what might be next…

took this picture of the April page on my Chihuly calendar…

when I turned to this page it reminded me of the wonderful installation at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and how much fun we had there…

the other place where there was a fabulous installation of the floats was at Chihuly Garden and Glass in Seattle… many floats were placed inside a row boat, just sitting on the floor in a huge empty room… very cool…

funny where a picture can take you…

lovely morning spent going through my new Chihuly book admiring all the gorgeous glass chandeliers and remembering my visits to Seattle and Atlanta…

of all the installations I always lean toward the blue ones… although this mauve one kind of caught my eye…

I’ve followed his work for many years, after being introduced to it by my older daughter…

my first live view of his work was in Seattle on our way home from our Alaskan cruise… it was a stellar way to end the trip and we actually met Dale while we were wandering around Chihuly Garden and Glass…

this past June we went to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens for a Chihuly exhibition… my favourite there was the boat and spheres with this goddess…

the book was a lovely treat from a friend who had recently been to a city that had some Chihuly installations and while she was there she had the chance to see a few of the pieces as well…

if you have the opportunity to see any of his work in person I strongly recommend you take the time to check it out…

worked the late shift today and was able to meet up with a good friend for lunch before I started, and check out a new restaurant…

the restaurant is located on the lower level and is nicely decorated… small but fresh and bright… they only serve breakfast and lunch, which is a fun change…

we always have a good time together and spend our time checking in with one another… lovely to catch up… they had been to a number of places since we’d last been together… I went on about Atlanta, lol…

I had the Braised Bacon Benedict…

Braised Bacon Benedict Maple Sabayon, Dill, Poached Eggs, Pickled JalapeƱos, Cheddar Biscuit

as it would happen, I asked for the jalapeƱos to be on the side, and they actually didn’t even come…

it was very tasty and the eggs were poached perfectly…

I also had the cucumber salad…

Cucumbers, Romaine Hearts, Tomato Caramel, Tahini Dressing

today they had avocado instead of the tomato caramel…

my friend had the Seared Tuna, Cashew, Peas & Rhubarb which was also delicious…

I had parked at work and then walked to and from lunch… still a few steps short of my daily goal…

such a treat to be able to spend some time with a good friend…

Atlanta, bags, big girl pants, duty free, full moon, home, seats, travel

woke up to another great day in Atlanta…

lazed around a bit and packed up our bags… always interesting how difficult it is to get the same stuff back into your bag, lol…

headed to the airport hoping we could get seats together on the plane… apparently you need to book online as soon as you can because when we went to check in there were no empty seats and we were at opposite ends of the plane…

decided to head out early and have a nice breakfast at the airport… not to happen… when we finally got to the correct terminal – after taking the train again – all they had was a food court, sigh…

this was my breakfast…

wasn’t quite what we imagined it would be… it was a full moon after all…

at the gate we were advised we were stuck in the seats we had been assigned… I ended up in the furthest window seat at the back of the plane, where there is no window and the seats don’t recline at all… really felt claustrophobic the whole flight… strange that they were far apart as we booked them together…

my daughter had purchased some duty free liquor and when we arrived in Toronto and made it to the security line we were advised it wasn’t in the right bag, duh, so we had to leave the area and go back to WestJet check in and leave her bag, with the liquor there to be checked… luckily we had a spare cloth bag… then we had to go back through security again… omg… good thing there was time before our flights…

we ordered some lunch in an Irish pub place and it took a long time to arrive… thankfully it was right beside the two gates we needed…

after lunch we spent a last few minutes to say goodbye between the two gates before we each headed to our flights…

standing in line I could see her waiting for her flight…

two and a half hours later and I was home… unpacked a bit, had a bite of supper and heading off to bed as I work tomorrow…

a great trip and lots of fun…

now, back to reality…

Atlanta, bbq chicken, big girl pants, gazpacho, packing, purple, rain, thunder

quiet day, well except for the thunder… and the rain…

this was the sky in two directions around ten this morning…

dark and brooding toward the west…

but it looked like it was clearing to the east… not true, lol… rained off and on all day…

my lunch included the last of a bbq grocery store chicken… bought it about a week ago and have been eating it since then… made dinners, a few work lunches, and some meals over the weekend… a friend who has had a difficult year talked about how she had lived on these for months on end as it was a healthy option that didn’t involve a great expenditure of energy to produce…

my goal for the last year and a half has been to ensure there are veggies at every meal… so for this lunch I made gazpacho… pretty happy with how many vegetables I got into it… celery, sad grape tomatoes, cucumbers, green onions, mini peppers and basil from the (very wet!) deck… tasty…

chose outfits and packed my bag… hoping I have enough cool clothes as apparently it is very warm in Atlanta…

yesterday I picked up a top and couple of pairs of shorts to add to the mix…

barely taking anything that is purple… still need to find something in case it is cold…

time for a new page on my Chihuly calendar…

a nice one… looking forward to visiting the installations at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens in a few weeks…

gardens are such fun to visit and take photos in… amazing to me how many places I have travelled to in the last four years…

the other thing I took time to take a photo of this morning was the new stem and buds on the October orchid that I picked up from IKEA… the last blossom just fell off on Monday… I’ve had it since October… longest blooming orchid I have ever had…

seems like many of those in my extended circle are struggling with health issues…

keeping them in my thoughts during these difficult times…

very happy to see the gorgeous spheres when I turned the page to May on my Chihuly calendar…

I find the spheres mesmerizing…

not long after that I got a message from my daughter with this picture…

about the opening of a Chihuly in the Garden event at the Atlanta Botanical Garden…

the sculpture in the background was very similar to one we had expected to see when we travelled to Montreal to view their Botanical Garden… unfortunately it had been taken down not too long before we went, lol…

so when I saw that and the boat filled with spheres I started to think about a visit…

and now I am going… looking forward to a trip mid June to view the Gardens and the Chihuly installations…

going to be great fun…
