big girl pants, blessed, computer room, desktop, happy, moments, properly, tidy, widow
Wednesday I spent time in the computer room…
usually I take time at least once a month to tidy the space…
the desktop gets a bit messy as I am very good at bringing things up, but often leave them on the desk without putting them away properly, lol…

it looks so nice when it is tidied up…
my next project will start shortly as I begin sorting and organizing tax documents to send off to the accounting folks;-)… at that point there may be quite a few pieces of paper all over the place…

so, in today’s Canada Post mail, I received a letter from my house insurance company advising that a payment was due on December 14th…
the date on the letter was November 23rd…

I called my insurance company right away and paid the invoice over the phone…
my first question to my agent was whether the house had been uninsured since mid December…
thankfully the house was covered…
I have now entered the date for the next payment to be sure it doesn’t get missed, lol…

what a lovely treat on Saturday evening…
I got to meet a delightful one month old who stopped by for a visit along with her sibling and parents…

she is sweet and agreeable and we had some lovely cuddles before she fell asleep in my arms…
so I just sat there, happy as a clam;-)…
looking forward to more cuddles;-)…

had fun with flowers Monday morning…
picked up the bouquet on December 29th when we were out grocery shopping;-)…
as there were already flowers in the living room, the bouquet went into the den…
the living room flowers were done, so I rearranged the newer flowers into three little vases…

playing with flowers makes me so happy;-)…

I’ve been looking at comforters for the last while and decided to order one for a January treat, but waited in case I got one for Christmas…
it arrived a few days ago in a tiny package which happily swelled up considerably when the plastic was removed…
once everything was laundered it was put on the bed…

I am very happy with how it looks;-)…

big girl pants, blessed, dressers, drywalling, family, grandsons, laundry room, lighter, moments, mudding, prep, sanding, widow
my middle grandson came over on Friday to do some drywalling in the laundry room…
earlier, I took a few photos to have a before and after…

first they moved the dressers out of the space…
a large cable was moved, insulation was installed, and plastic added…

then the drywall was measured and screwed onto the walls…
finally the screw holes and joints were filled with mud, tape went over the seams, and more mud added…

that was it for the day as the mud needed to dry before the next steps…
this morning my housemate sanded, vacuumed, and wiped down the new drywall…

in the afternoon, we shortened one dresser, sanded the bottom of it (with a new Christmas present), and then returned both of them to their usual location… and with the one being shorter we now have access to the plug that was hidden behind it;-)…

I am amazed at how much brighter it looks;-)…
we plan to reorganize the drawers and I think I will find some nicer containers to hold the various cleaning products…

big girl pants, blessed, delicious, dinner, family, food, happy, memories, moments, New Year’s dinner, prime rib, process, widow
for New Year’s dinner we tried something new…
we had prime rib… for many years we would have steak and lobster with twice-stuffed potatoes…
so this was fun to try… cooking the prime rib was interesting… first, it had to sit on the counter for six hours to reach room temperature, then it went into the oven at 500°F for half an hour, and finally the oven was turned off and it sat inside it for two hours…
quite the process, but it came out perfect for those of us who enjoy rare meat;-)…

there were mashed potatoes, mushrooms, Brussels sprouts with carrots, little Yorkshire puddings, and gravy…
delicious…

big girl pants, blessed, family, first footing, front door, memories, moments, new year, shovelling, snow, tradition, widow
on New Year’s day in the morning, I went out the patio doors and shovelled the decks…

then I walked around to the front and did the sidewalks and steps…
I used the shovel by the back door and it was very noisy, lol… it has a metal piece along the front and makes a scraping noise as it is used…
the one I normally use is plastic and much quieter…
I started at the back because I was waiting for my first-footer to arrive so didn’t use the front door…
twice during the day people commented that I was the only person they knew who followed this tradition, and also that when I was gone, the tradition would probably go with me, lol…
