the month is nearly finished and I haven’t even put up my August Chihuly calendar picture…

cool picture…
and finally, a picture of the finished roof…

had planned to spend the day in the garden, but woke up to rain coming down…
left the patio door screen open overnight so it was rather chilly when I got downstairs…
eventually the rain stopped and the sun came out… but then it clouded over again… sun peaked out now and again for the remainder of the day…
although I never left the house I put on red and white to commemorate Canada Day… started with long pants but then moved to shorts when I thought I’d go outside, only to discover it was chilly out again… never did get outside…
was very happy to see the new picture when I flipped the page on my Chihuly calendar…
reminded me of our visit to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens last June… took these pictures of a similar tree which was stunning, during the day and at night…
thinking about where we might go next to see more Chihuly…
looking forward to a week in Ottawa towards the end of the summer… we will be going to Mosai Canada to see a version of the Goddess which we saw in Atlanta…
have seen a few teaser pics on Instagram of how she will look… here’s one…

can hardly wait to see all of the installations at the Jacques Cartier Park… gardens and water, two of my favourite things;-)…

had a tasty treat after dinner tonight…
this was in my Advent calendar on day 4, which was also George’s birthday… it is 65% dark chocolate with coconut, candied violets and gold flakes by ChocoMe…
and it tastes delicious…
had it with some almonds to be sure I got a portion of protein with it…

this morning I was thinking about our time in Atlanta just a few weeks ago…
very happy while I was there to pick up a 2017 calendar… also picked up some beautiful notecards and a Chihuly hat…
just a few days ago I turned over my 2016 calendar to this picture…

another beauty… makes checking the date a very pleasant experience… and a reminder of those wonderful visits to the Atlanta Botanical Garden and our amazing visit to Chihuly Garden and Glass in Seattle…
I had picked up a couple of novels before heading to Atlanta and started reading this one…

was blown away by her reference to Chihuly as I read on the flight to Ottawa on the way to Atlanta…
synchronicity…
memories…

always great fun to turn my beautiful Chihuly calendar from one month to the next…
these orbs make me very happy… remind me of the lovely purple ones that the kids gave me for Mother’s Day…
still have to put a bit of water in them and then silicone the small hole in each one so they will float… also think I might join the three of them together with some fishing line through the silicone…
had a decadent lunch… hard to believe that a chicken sandwich on flax bread with chips and a salad is decadent, lol…
bread is really one of the most problematic foods for me… makes my sugar levels go up all of the next day so I have to be very careful how much of it I eat…
when I was shopping today the bread really jumped out… my favourite technique is to buy bread, have some, and then feed the rest to the kids when they come for dinner or take it to work the next day… that way I can have the treat but not overdo… the last few days have been quiet as I saw the kids and had dinner with them on Friday… bread’s going to work tomorrow, lol…
have been watching the information about the new Chihuly opening at the Atlanta Botanical Garden… today I came across a great article in Houzz showing pictures of a number of the installations… sure looks awesome…
my new frog friend is very talkative… there is a lot of noise coming from the pond area… not sure if there are more there, or whether it can throw its voice…
restful time in the garden…

when we were in Seattle in 2013, I got this amazing calendar which I put away until January 2014, without losing it, lol…
I have enjoyed it every day as I would wander past it… it reminded me of the spectacular day we met Dale Chihuly at Chihuly Garden and Glass…

this is the last month… I am wondering about whether I can order another one for 2015 on line…
I will never forget the day we spent amongst all of the amazing glass sculptures… he really is a genius…
still a bit star struck…

today when I turned the page on the calendar in the hall I saw this…
brought back the wonderful day we spent at Chihuly Garden and Glass at the base of the Seattle Space Needle…
I was taken with the gardens of blue and purple…
the reflection in this globe shows me and the Space Needle…
my daughter was mesmerized by the yellows and oranges…
spent a lovely few minutes resting in this gorgeous purple garden…

starting to get excited about the Olympics…
have now organized having Friday off so that I can watch the Opening Ceremonies… I really like to watch the events live if I possibly can…
have downloaded an app – Sochi 2014 – which lists times when all of the different sports are taking place and you can add them to your calendar…
planning on some Slopestyle qualifying around 4 am on Thursday with semi finals late Friday night…Saturday has lots of skating and some moguls as well… Sunday looks to have some downhill, ice dance and luge…
going to be a rough week next week.. short track is happening at 5 am Monday so I should be able to watch a bit of that before heading to work, lol…
this has reminded me of the time that I was listening to the TV as I was getting ready for work a number of years ago… was so intent on hearing how our athletes were doing that I put cleaning solution on my contact and then put it into my eye… I could barely move, the pain was so bad, and I remember calling George to help me get the lens out.. after rinsing it for quite a while I contacted my eye doctor and had to go right to his office to get it looked at… it too ages to heal… since then I have been extremely cautious as to what solution I am using…
in a recent conversation, realized that I am currently looking back but also seeing how I have grown… some days it is quite easy to put on those big girl pants…

bookmarks, calendar, Chihuly Garden and Glass, Dale Chihuly, electronic picture frame, exceptional customer service, gifts, gratitude, savour them, Staples, take a moment
as I sit here watching the fish swim happily about in their clean aquarium (thanks to my son-in-law) I looked over and saw my daughter and grandson on the electronic picture frame…
reminded me of just a few of things that I have to be grateful for… one was the amazing experience of visiting Chihuly Garden and Glass at the base of the Space Needle in Seattle this summer… and getting to meet Dale Chihuly in person…
for many years George and I would make gifts to give to family and friends… this year I decided to do that again…
I spent time thinking of some of the things I am grateful for, as well as the people who fill my life… made a list of all those and put them in alphabetical order and produced a bookmark with the word gratitude and all of the things/people…
then I went through the pictures I took at Chihuly Garden and Glass and chose some for the back side of the bookmarks… I chose enough so that every bookmark had a different picture on it, making it unique, like the people who would receive it…
took the pictures and list to Staples where I had an exceptional customer service experience… the young woman helped me get three of the gratitude pieces onto a single 8 1/2 by 11 sheet and then printed the pictures on the back… she also cut each one, laminated it and cut that as well… she took great care as she worked and I was very impressed with the final product…
today I was touched to see that two of my colleagues have them in a place where they can be seen all the time as they work at their desks… one has hers right on her screen so it reminds her of gratitude every time she looks at her computer… the other is on a ledge at eye level where another can see it whenever she looks up…
gratitude is such a simple thing that we tend to forget, or rush past…
wishing you the opportunity to remember the things you are grateful for, and take a moment to savour them…
