over the last while I have heard so many stories of struggles…
friends and acquaintances are dealing with family health issues all around them, as well as their own…
have been spending time thinking of each of them over the last week…
on a more positive side, I am starting to feel better, which is wonderful news…

the new neighbours have put up some wind chimes… the kind that I like, not the high pitched tinkling ones…
wonder how long I will refer to the neighbours as new, lol…
reminds me of the wonderful ones that we had… they were a gift from friends and had a lovely deep sound…
one year we decided to make similar ones as our Christmas gift for friends…
George took ours apart to create the template and worked on them for weeks…
we had great difficulty finding the correct type of copper, but eventually all the bits and pieces were gathered up…
during that time he came down with an infection which damaged his heart… he just finished the gifts in time, as he was feeling so sick…
he never did put ours back together… I think the struggle to get the gifts done really tarnished his love of them…
a couple of months ago I found the bits for our original set, but apparently some of the pieces aren’t there…
I can’t figure out how to put it together but with the lovely sound coming from next door I think it’s okay…

spent some time today reorganizing the living and dining rooms…
put away a few last Christmas decorations and got to try out a few of my Christmas presents…
first I played with these nifty gloves that were in my stocking…
they are waterproof and make scrubbing much easier… had a bit of fun cleaning the top of the stove with them…
after I put some of the plants back in their places I played with another of my presents… a can of morning glories...
apparently they will start to sprout in 3 to 5 days… I am really excited to see if we get flowers…
couldn’t put everything away… kept out the glitter trees once I stacked them… and just took a few photos with another of my gifts…
hoping to get there soon…
been a busy day and now to bed…

felt a bit sad for our friend Ziggy this morning… he looked very sad as we put him into the hot almond milk…
but sure was tasty…
had a wonderful day filled with fun, family, special moments and lots of treats…
ended with delicious turkey and all the trimmings…
the boys did a great job of cleaning up and then we devoured a chocolate Christmas tree;-)…

yesterday and this morning got the food prepped for Christmas dinner…
peeled and cut up potatoes and turnip… my dad insisted on turnip water to make the gravy… felt it added just the right flavour… so I cook turnips for every holiday meal, lol… a few of us even eat the turnip…
thought I was done and then remembered the stuffing… broke up the bread while watching tv and then finished it while I was making my supper…
this morning I cooked and blended the cranberries…
picked up the Ottawa kids and now we are at my daughter and son-in-law’s house for a Christmas Eve sleepover…
quite a few presents under the tree…
I’m home with the kids… the big boys are out watching the new Star Wars movie and the girls are doing last minute shopping…

one of my projects this Christmas was a gift for my colleagues…
after considering what to make for them, chose mouse pads with some of my photography… the pictures were from our visit to Atlanta in June…
once the photos were chosen, and the pads produced, I had to pick which one went to which person… sometimes I have the individuals choose, but decided this time to pick for each one…
set out the pictures and then used little notes to be sure I had just the right one for each member of the team…
once the decisions were made, I prepared a card and wrapped each one up…
at the end of the day on Monday I put them into their mail slots…
it is such fun to choose, prepare and give gifts… so blessed to have the time and resources to do this…

excellent first day of holidays…
slept in a bit, had breakfast and watched some tv…
then I spent a lovely few hours listening to Christmas carols and wrapping presents…
the kids came over and we did a run to Costco to pick up a few final items needed for the season…
while we were gone the oldest grandson shovelled the sidewalk, driveway and backyard…
they brought over the makings for tacos for supper and we gobbled them up…
after supper a bit of work went into the fish tank and the babies were added in… we hope they make it but they’d stopped growing in the bowl…

got a variety of interesting shots today…
started early when I took a picture of the tree with the Advent butterflies and angels added to it…
then I got a few pictures of the 2015 October orchid which is still blooming…
back to the tree for another shot which has a reflection in one of the ornaments…
although the moon was full just last Tuesday it is nearly half gone…
spent quite a bit of time updating pictures for the electronic picture frame…
frustrated because some of the pictures are coming up sideways after I turned them on the card… even bought new batteries for the remote to see if that would make a difference… sigh, no luck…
then the kids met me at Save-On-Foods and we checked it out… got the turkey for Christmas and various other bits and pieces… next time I will go on my own to just wander around and really see what they have, lol…
seemed like there was lots going on today…

wonderful time with my BS buddies this morning…
we weren’t all available this coming Monday evening, our usual time to gather… so we arranged to meet today…
when we come together for a meal we usually go out to a restaurant, but we decided to meet here and ordered breakfast from The Original Pancake House, using SkipTheDishes…
it was great… I had my favourite chicken livers and others had crepes and pancakes… even the eggs that came were beautifully cooked… we had a wonderful visit as we ate and shared gifts…
these women are an integral part of my life and spending time with them is always a gift… we’ve met most Monday evenings for years and have shared everything, from the everyday through children’s shenanigans and growing pains, work changes and life changing events…
we try to get a photo when we have one of these special gatherings, could be Christmas, or a birthday celebration… nearly forgot today… thankfully the youngest one remembered, lol…
lots of laughter as we set up and tried to get a good remote shot, lol…
we don’t need gifts, but some of us — me especially — love them… they come from the heart… today there was fruit bread and shortbread, jam, soup mix and chocolate, lotions and towels, donations, ornaments and beautiful cards…
so blessed to have these moments together…

it seemed lighter as I drove home today… wondering if it is due to the fact that the sun has actually been out, lol…
the solar lights in the garden were shining under the snow tonight… always pretty and makes me smile every time I see them…
to top off all the cool things, received a Christmas card and two gift cards in the mail…
