visited the Wolseley Farmers Market and got some lovely items…
flowers; a beautiful pork chop; green, yellow, and purple beans; garlic; small new potatoes; little eggplants; free range eggs; an acorn squash; and a cob of corn…
cooked up, cooled and reheated the potatoes… then warmed up some chicken wings from the night before and boiled some of the beans…
yum…
looking forward to more delicious meals from this bounty…
I’ve always loved Valentine’s Day… from getting flowers from my beloved, to making heart shaped sugar cookies for the girls’ classrooms for years, to taking roses to my colleagues…
in later years, once the girls had flown the nest, we would have a special dinner… often steak and lobster…
this year I ordered a charcuterie board from Oak Hammock Marsh, one of our local not-for-profits, for my dinner tonight…
it was delivered to my door and looked festive…
there were cheeses, olives, crackers, cold cuts, fruit, nuts, herbs, even a bit of chocolate… and it came on a nice wooden board…
tonight I enjoyed half of it, and will finish it either tomorrow or Monday…
was thinking of my beloved as I enjoyed this treat…
so happy to have my Friday night dinner delivered from ModernPlate… they produced weekly meals between November, 2020 and May, 2021…
at that time they ended the Friday night meals, so I was pleased (for me) to see that it was back, but sorry (for them) that we’ve come back to this…
I also ordered a spinach salad with feta, fennel, seeds and pecans, which I had for lunch… it was very tasty…
the dinner is for two so I get at least two meals from it… this one was pork loin with smashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts…
and then there was dessert;-)… kept half of one piece of the cranberry and orange sticky toffee pudding…and sent the rest home with my grandson… which was a good plan, because I would have eaten more if it was here, lol…
such a treat to have meals made for me… and they are always delicious…
I was laying on the bed upstairs yesterday watching the end of a movie when I heard a huge clap of thunder…
jumped up and ran outside to put away the cushions… I don’t like it when they get wet and they were on all of the chairs…
almost got the last ones into the garage when the downpour began… I stood in the garage doorway and watched rain and hail pelt down for a while and then, when it slowed down a little, made it into the house…
all of the windows were wide open as well as the screen door, but luckily only the kitchen and bedroom had issues…
had to take up the rug at the door and wipe up the water in the kitchen… the other rooms were pretty good… thankfully, the blinds were down in the bedroom so the water only came in a bit in one corner of the frame… once I wiped it up it didn’t take long to dry…
it remained overcast for a while, but then the sun came out and it was beautiful…
brought Barbie the barbecue out and grilled a steak for my dinner to go along with the potato salad I had made earlier in the day…
then I sat on the deck and read;-)… crazy weather…
yesterday I got my appointment for my COVID vaccination… woohoo… was thrilled as the age limit has been going down very slowly… arranged for my grandson to drive me there and back when the day arrives…
so, for a treat, I ordered from my favourite Vietnamese restaurant – Pho Hoang… we used to go there after our aquasize class… in the before time…
the food always arrives quickly and is delicious…
I usually try to order enough for a couple of meals, so got my favourite shrimp summer rolls with the steak and brisket pho… ate the rolls with some of the pho broth…
I also ordered some rolled ice cream, although I only ate a third of it with my dinner… it was delicious;-)…
had a big bowl of pho today… and maybe finished the ice cream;-)…
I’ve been getting my Friday dinner for most of December and into January from Modern Plate Catering…
a number of weeks ago, when it was delivered, Curtis, the delivery person, asked if I had salt and then sprinkled it on my steps and sidewalk, which were covered in ice… how kind was that;-)… it is so nice to get to know the members of businesses, particularly in these trying times… the next week he brought salt with him!
today, when he and Lindsay dropped off my dinner, he had already shovelled the steps before I opened the door… he was prepared to shovel the sidewalk as well, but I told him not to…
good customer service is so important and makes me try harder to use good companies again and again;-)…
this morning the living room looked lovely and I enjoyed the serenity as I sat in the quiet and enjoyed the lights…
the Ottawa kids and I Skyped and we opened our presents together… following our usual pattern, in this unusual time, we opened the gifts one at a time… it was great fun… they liked all their gifts, which made me happy…
one of my gifts from them was all the fixings for my New Year’s Eve dinner… usually on New Year’s Eve we have steak and lobster, although for the last number of years that meal has happened on New Year’s day… there was beef carpaccio, lobster, truffle chips, olives, red peppers, cookies, a lovely glass of wine (with gold in it) and a festive cracker…
there were also gifts from a number of friends, filled with goodies… I am blessed…
a bit later the Winnipeg kids FaceTimed as they opened the gifts I had sent over… I didn’t do so good with their gifts as two of them had received the same gift from their parents, lol…
yesterday I peeled potatoes and turnip, made stuffing, and produced Thai Shrimp soup so that there wouldn’t be too much to do today… I had decided that, even though I would be here alone, I wanted a proper Christmas dinner… it was delicious;-)…
