over the weekend I picked up the ingredients to make cabbage roll soup… I’ve never made it before but it sounded good and I’ve been craving cabbage rolls for a while…

last night I made it… the recipe I was using was made for an InstantPot so there was a lot of guessing around the cooking process… and I made a number of adjustments to the recipe… more of this, less of that… likely I couldn’t replicate it if I tried…

it made a ton of very thick soup…

I stopped on the way to work and picked up two different loaves of bread to go with it…

everyone loved it and it all got eaten up…

been back in the groove of walking on the treadmill every morning… kind of fell off the wagon over the holidays, lol… happy to get back on track…

before I left the house I sat and enjoyed the flowers that I picked up on Monday… a lovely treat to have the moment to focus on the beauty…

when I got into the garage it still smelled delicious… just like barbecued steak… yum… pretty nice after three days… didn’t smell when I got home… will check it out tomorrow, lol…

a parcel arrived for me at the office on Wednesday…

my daughter had advised that she had ordered a Chocolate Lab Advent calendar for me but I wasn’t sure when it would arrive…

opened it up and discovered inside the lovely box filled with beautiful chocolate bonbons…

because I was planning to stop for a haircut on my way home that night, I decided not to take it home with me, as I didn’t want the chocolates to freeze…

one thing I’ve learned from my daughter is that you have to be careful of chocolate, not let it get too hot or too cold so that it’s at its best… left it on my desk all day Thursday but brought it home that night… put it on top of the fish tank where it looks quite lovely…

looking forward to opening it on December 1 and checking out the first drawer to taste the delicious bonbon inside… I sure am lucky…

a while ago I discovered a new chocolatier in Winnipeg – Amanda Green of Melt Chocolate Co…

I messaged her and ordered some of her bonbons and she delivered them;-)… wow…

they are quite lovely to look at…

and very tasty… shared some with my BS group on Monday and everyone enjoyed them…

happy they could assist in the eating as I might have eaten every one…

think I will be purchasing some more, lol…

Saturday is usually my do nothing and rest up from the week day…

today I had a lunch date with two lovely women… besides getting me out of the house, it was the first time in weeks that I went for an actual walk to get there and back…

ended up wearing my winter jacket because it was a bit breezy and felt like -13 with the windchill…

I really enjoyed being out in the fresh air…

we had a great time at a new Arab street food restaurant and tried different things… manakeesh with eggplant and cheese was my first pick and then I followed up with Halawa Banana and Pistachio Sweet Manakeesh… I also had a chai tea latte which was delicious and when I checked later, may have had 20 grams, or 4 teaspoons, of sugar in it… yikes… no wonder it tasted so great…

the picture shows my meal and the desserts that my friends had, lol… hadn’t had a visit with them for ages so it was really wonderful to spend time together…

after my walk home, which hopefully dealt with some of that extra sugar, I spent some time watching figure skating…

good day…

tgif… always seems strange to me how long four day weeks after a holiday are… you’d think the week would fly by, but no…

was very excited to see these adorable African violet flowers which I discovered at my desk this afternoon…

the plant was turned so I hadn’t noticed the flowers until I moved it… makes me happy…

since yesterday I’ve been thinking of the grilled cheese and onion sandwich that I was going to have for my dinner from the last of the sourdough rye bread I picked up at the bakery…

it was delicious…

started my day with this lovely shot in the living room… these flowers have been blooming since February 5th when I picked them up…

trimmed them down and tossed a few out but they still look fabulous…

then it was off to La Belle Baguette where I collected two types of bread for today’s Souper Thursday… chose a loaf of French and a Rye Sourdough… and finally three different tarts to share… yum…

this bakery is way too close to home, lol… in the summer I would walk over on Saturday or Sunday to pick up a treat…

on my way home I stopped in and got a hair cut… great to have it trimmed up… still has lots of purple in it…

flowers, tasty treats and fresh hair… pretty good day…

yesterday I packed up a container of Easy Thai Shrimp Soup as it was my day to provide soup for Souper Thursday…

I had saved the recipe to my Pinterest page ages ago, but made it for the first time the night before… with a few changes as I went along…

as I left the house in the morning, I had to put down my bag and take a picture of the beautiful moon in the sky…

the soup was a hit… everyone loved it…

I brought home the last little bit and scoffed it down for my dinner as I watched the start of some of the Olympics, even before the opening ceremonies…

so excited for these next two weeks of sports…

we were busy today…

slept in a bit and I walked to the “A” and met the kids there for breakfast… one of my son-in-law’s favourite places to eat…

it was lovely to get outside for some exercise… after we ate it was off to the youngest grandson’s Christmas concert… he’d been sick but did a great job anyway…

from there we drove downtown to do some local shopping… picked up some chocolate postcards at Little Sister Coffee Maker, a couple of kitchen goodies from The Happy Cooker and cake from Baked Expectations…

didn’t even get a shot of the slices of cake we picked up, lol…

then it was over to Decadence Chocolates on Sherbrook… had some fun there as we enjoyed complimentary hot chocolate…

last stop was Poco Inspired where we discovered beads, findings, tools, and stones – my personal favourite…

made me think of the Johnny Cash song “I’ve been everywhere”… although I might change the next few words, lol…

had a wonderful lunch today at the Alt Hotel… was there to celebrate Women’s Entrepreneurship Day and hear the stories of four women who are changing the world, or at least their small corner of it…

started with a nice fresh salad…

the space is very simple, but comfortable… and the rooms we were in were bright and modern…

the main course was mushroom stuffed chicken breast with roasted vegetables and a delicious sauce…

when it arrived I was thinking it was kind of small… but then I tasted it… yummy, and filling…

for dessert we had creme brûlée….

one of my all time favourites… and so good… had to kind of gulp it down so that I could take some video of the speakers, lol…

the food comes from the Merchant Kitchen which is right next door to the hotel…

all of the staff were pleasant and eager to make our experience the best it could be…

thinking about what else we might do there…
