as I sit here quietly in the living room I am thinking of two big events that took place in the last few days…

the first was a congratulatory note from WordPress… on December 1st, 2012 I began writing about my journey into widowhood… and have continued that since then, moving into commenting on my life…

the second was today, which would have been my beloved’s 77th birthday… this year we had burgers here, one of his favourite foods, while the kids in Ottawa had an apple galette… he loved apple pie… we had a video visit between the burgers and galette, lol…

my grandson is going to use his Christmas stocking for the first time…

I sure do miss him🤗…

spent Sunday setting up the Christmas tree…

first I had to move the plants in the front window to other spots and move two tables out of the way…

then I spent some time removing two strings of lights… one that didn’t work and one that I restrung on the tree…

then, six or seven boxes came upstairs and were gone through to see what was in them and decide on the theme for this year’s ornaments…

chose glass pieces that have rarely been out since my beloved’s passing…

once it was decorated, I was advised that it needed more purple🤪… can you believe it, lol…

so I added more purple…

ran around Saturday morning and basically finished my Christmas shopping…

a beautiful outdoor tree tried to seduce me at Canadian Tire, but I walked away, lol…

we also had a lot of fun at BulkBarn finding things for a couple of Advent calendars…

the last few books were picked up at Chapters for my littlest friends and we found the last sheep door draft stopper…

so, I guess now I have to wrap things, lol…

waited till late in the day to fill the stairs with trees and Advent boxes…

should have started earlier because it took a while to get into the spirit, although I did enjoy the Christmas music I put on…

all of the lights worked right off the bat and eventually each box found a home…

the last few ended up by the front door…

the remainder of the forest found its way into the bathroom, the kitchen and onto the dining room table…

starting to feel like the season;-)…

flattened…

a very large, and heavy, box arrived in the mail…

I am sure that it is full of items for my Advent calendar… woohoo…

just yesterday morning I brought down the bag full of boxes which have been flattened…

my housemate will be rebuilding the twenty-four boxes and inserting the various items from my daughter into them…

then I will get the boxes and set them out to be opened one at a time during Advent;-)…

bought a few tree greens while at the grocery store…

dug out two birch branches, some small white twigs, and a stem of red berries from the shed…

went through a Christmas box and brought out some large ornaments…

last week I’d brought in the planter from the top step so it could thaw out so all the dead plants could be pulled out…

took the planter into the garden, removed all the dead plants and added in the greenery…

after everything was included, it was carried to the front steps…

added some solar lights…

looks good…

setup…

got a photo of the cold tub setup…

two years ago it got used nearly every day, and last year it was barely used at all…

for the last few years the tub has been on the top deck…

this year it has moved to the lower deck and I think it is going to work well there…

the heater (which keeps the temperature at 5° Celsius), and pump, are attached to the side and removed when the tub is being used…

you can see the frozen footprints in the photo…

the other day when I was talking with my daughter, she mentioned they were having zucchini basil soup for their supper…

made me realize that I hadn’t made it for ages, so then I was craving it, lol…

yesterday morning I started it… it is a simple recipe with just a few ingredients…

after cooking it, it was blended and made a delicious smooth soup…

cooked some chicken thighs to add to it…

so tasty…

a friend dropped by for a visit on Saturday morning and brought me a few books…

a bit later my housemate and I went to Globosapiens to pick up some additional books… this time I chose some new releases as well as some of the authors I usually read…

the Halloween decorations had filled up most of the stairs as there were very few books left to read…

I took this (⬆️) photo on November 1st before the decorations came down…

now, the stair library is booming once again;-)… woohoo… I haven’t been enjoying the current read, so may just put that one aside and start on one of these;-)…
