my older daughter, who lives in Ottawa, surprised me on Wednesday… she arrived to help with a big event I’ve been working on…

after the event, she was able to visit with a few of her friends and we spent Saturday in our jammies doing nothing…

it was divine as both of us have been very busy for the last month…

we made macaroni and cheese with lobster for supper… at the same time I learned more about Instagram stories and a new app that slices videos to Instagram size;-)… as I was going through my photos looking for one of the mac and cheese to put in this post, I was giggling because we took two sets of videos and there wasn’t a single photo of the process that was good enough to use, lol…

we did manage to get into the hot tub once… our usual routine is to spend a few minutes at the end of each evening there…

this morning we were up early and took our requisite selfie, lol… we used her fancy Huawei phone which has some smoothing aspect in the pic… we look pretty fine…

I got her to the airport by 6:30 am for her flight… and took our final selfie…

a wonderful gift…

found all these chocolate items on the counter this morning… they include some of my all time favourites… as well as a few I haven’t tried yet…

delicious black currant, coconut and chocolate… looks like I am going to be busy for the next while;-)…

this afternoon I made coleslaw… I used a recipe from a lovely church lady who is long gone… we used to make this recipe when feeding large crowds of people…

since then I have written down the measurements for half and a quarter of the recipe… sometimes I would mess up, using an amount from the full recipe for one ingredient and then maybe half for the next, lol… learned my lesson…

this always reminds me of my mother-in-law... she would make coleslaw and just know the correct combination of dressing ingredients needed to go in for the amount she was making… and it always tasted perfect;-)…

I do sometimes wing it now… and it usually works out, but today I went back to the recipe and put the extra aside for another time…

memories…

filled a large bowl as my grandson was coming for dinner… only to learn he likes the creamy kind, lol…

going to have some every day this week…

the other day I came across some slides from the 70s…

this first one is from a trip we took with my beloved’s parents to Vancouver in 1978… it was just after our first daughter was born… she travelled in a travel bassinet for the whole trip… times have certainly changed, lol…

at least every second day something bad happened to the car… from blown tires, the muffler falling off at least three times, to windows freezing in the open position, to the engine catching fire… and other things in between…

clearly, a trip to remember…

the second photo is of a camping trip… shows our Chevelle and camper… I purchased that car with my dad in 1968 and we had it for many years… it was a wonderful car… and I have many amazing memories of our times with it…

the camper we have now is very similar to that one… I hope we make as many memories with it;-)…

spent the day in my pjs…

also un-decorated all of the Christmas bits and pieces… had hoped to have my oldest grandson help me, but he wasn’t available, so I did it all on my own…

worked away at it off and on all day… had given myself a deadline of tonight as the cleaners are coming tomorrow, lol…

not ready to give up the twinkle lights just yet, lol…

redid the living room table… this time with family and Chihuly…

always remember my friend who would clean up before her housekeeper came and I always thought that was so odd…

of course, now that is exactly what I do;-)… well, tidy…

went to Canadian Tire because they had a sale on… I’d decided after my Christmas Eve skate that I’d like to get my own so we could all skate together…

got the cutest ones… they have a C on them and mauve accents;-)… I mean, clearly designed specifically for me…

we went to The Forks, along with what felt like millions of other people, and had fun skating on the River Trail…

I still worry about falling but they had the neatest chairs on skis… it was wonderful to have one to steady me and I was able to relax and get more comfortable… soon I was gliding along… one day I might be able to do that without hanging on to something or someone, lol…

my daughter had a problem with one of her feet so I pushed her for a while… gave the youngest a short ride and then he pushed me for a bit… my son-in-law ended up giving me a very fast ride back to the start;-)…

didn’t skate for long, but it was great fun to be outside with the kids…

maybe next week we will go to the Duck Pond…

ended 2018 with a delicious family dinner…

I ran out this morning to find some lobster tails and picked up a tiny orchid and some flowers… thought it would be lovely to start the new year with flowers… my beloved would have brought some home for me…

once home I prepared the twice stuffed potatoes…

then I relaxed and watched tv… I’ve been on a Bones marathon for days now, lol…

when the kids got here we finished getting organized… the younger boys helped set the table… the oldest grandson got Brussels sprouts ready and then cooked them… my daughter made sure the butter warmers were ready and my son-in-law barbecued the steak and lobster… had a FaceTime visit with the Ottawa kids and then dinner…

our traditional New Year’s Eve (or New Year’s Day) dinner was a treat… besides the steak and lobster, there were mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, salad, escargot sauce, twice-stuffed potatoes, and garlic butter…

yummy… we ended with lemon meringue pie…

everything was cleaned up and the kids headed home…

will be interesting to hear if they last until midnight, lol… not sure that I will…

I’ve been a bit lonely over the last week or so… most Christmases my older daughter and her husband have come home… it didn’t work out this year…

was out in the hot tub this morning, first time in ages… a bit later these two pictures came up in my Facebook memories…

the first is deadly chocolate mousse cake, her favourite… I always make sure to have it in the house when she comes… in fact whenever I go to visit her, I take some as well… we always have the cake for breakfast, which the grandsons think is amazing;-)…

the second is of our water boots from last Christmas… she loves the hot tub and our usual pattern is a late night dip before bed…

it was my other son-in-law who suggested water boots many years ago… they work perfectly so that my feet never get cold or snowy…

today I spent some time cooking… turkey and dumplings, and mashed potato and garlic soup…

they both came out pretty tasty, although I am not going to be able to have the potato soup for work lunches because it reeks of garlic, lol…

had a lovely day…

up at 5 to FaceTime and exchange gifts with the Ottawa kids…

my son-in-law was working so he left the house around 6… this year it wasn’t nearly as cold as last, lol… which was good… last year when he headed off it was -40 with the windchill… this morning, when I checked a while after he’d gone it was only -18… practically a heat wave…

everyone was up by about 7:30, so I didn’t even have to bang pots…

thoughtful gifts were shared and everyone was pleased with their haul…

one of my gifts was a lovely top with herons on it and another was a Fitbit Charge 3 which I have been eyeing for quite some time;-)…

we had a sausage, potato, spinach and cheese casserole and then headed off to the movies…

went to see The Grinch at Grant Park… the theatre has what appear to be recliners for everyone to sit in and you pick your seat ahead of time (like on planes)… we sat in the wrong ones but eventually got to the right spot…

then it was on to my house where naps were had by many as the dinner cooked…

supper was ready as the daddy arrived just after 7… delicious turkey dinner followed by his presents, a few minutes of device time and away they went…

a bit of time tidying up and now I am relaxing in front of the tv… wondering how long I will stay awake, lol…
