one of the great things about retirement is having the opportunity to watch as things unfold…

like this orchid which has been coming along nicely for a while…

yesterday at 8:48 am it was just starting to unfurl…

and at 1:55 pm it looked like this…

finally it was open at 9:14 am this morning…

and there is another bud;-)…

recently I wandered around my space and took photos of all the blooming or nearly blooming things…

January and February are often harder months for me and having flowers blooming really lifts my spirits…

so much beauty in this space and I am grateful;-)…

had some fun with my bouquet… it is changing… the orchid stalk was removed and now the carnations are getting ready to come out…

used the table from the hot tub, a purple sweater, and the purple wall to get a few shots…

it was fun to gather up the items and set up for the shoot…

and the photos came out quite well…

this year my Christmas project was Post-It notes made with one of my photos on them…

took a while to decide on just the correct picture… in the end I chose a picture of a poppy that I took in the garden this summer… my Ottawa kids did some work removing the background for me…

always happy when I am able to use one of my photographs for a project…

I also produced cards with four different winter pictures to go with them…

working with my art always fills me with happiness…

received three more amaryllis bulbs and got right to getting them in the soil…

used a coffee filter in the bottom of the pot and then added the soil that came with each one…

they look cute all lined up in the sunshine;-)…

as with this one in the living room, which has a bud on it now, they will have a quarter turn each day…

had a lovely New Year’s day…

I watched the Rose Parade which was something we’ve done with my parents for years…

dear friends stopped by to first-foot me… and brought the usual coal, orange, cookies, alcohol, with a beautiful card… and a gorgeous bouquet of orchids and allium… my bouquet from last week is just on its last legs so the timing was perfect…

orchids are one of my favourites and allium was one of my beloved’s…

after that, I made a delicious steak and lobster meal for my lunch… it is usually the meal for New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day dinner…

I decided on lunch so the day would be easier… and to broil instead of barbecue as it was so cold out…

it turned out delicious and then I spent the day watching movies…

and carrying the flowers from room to room, lol…

had a photo shoot with my bouquet of flowers…

I’m happy that I’ve taken lots of shots since I received them as they are starting to fade…

got out the actual camera and had a fun time… light was good and tunes were playing…

flowers make me happy;-)…

a few days ago I shovelled a path to the garage and then moved a chair and table inside it… also put cushions on a few chairs in the space…

a bit later I dragged the propane fire pit from the deck, down the steps, across the lower deck, and into the garage…

took a few minutes to get the flames going, but eventually I figured it out…

just before my friend arrived, I took out a few blankets and got the fire started…

we had a lovely visit, distanced, masked and fairly warm… eventually my feet got cold – no socks – and she headed off…

she brought me an amazing bouquet of flowers that isn’t just beautiful, it smells delightful…

I had been thinking that we wouldn’t be able to visit, as I am not having anyone in the house for the next few weeks, so it made it a particularly special time…

yesterday a good friend stopped by with a few items from a fundraiser…

there were two beautiful poinsettias and a swag…

after our visit the swag went up on the front door… looks good there…

hope it stays up… the swags don’t have any fasteners on the back so it is always dicey to get them up and looking great…

the poinsettias found homes in the dining and living rooms…

now to see if I can keep them alive through Christmas;-)…
