up early and walked over to the “A” for breakfast with my son-in-law…

surprised to discover that they don’t open until 8 on Sunday… and we got there just a few minutes after 7…  so we went to Perkins… 

got dropped off not far from home and walked the rest of the way… 

saw this interesting X in the sky and had to stop and get a picture…

  
ran out to do a couple of errands and sat out for a few minutes before my daughter picked me up to go to her new house and figure out where to put everything in the kitchen… picked up a variety of squash on our way to the house…
 took the fixings for supper and after a busy but short afternoon, came home with my son-in-law on his way to work…

been thinking of my grandma lately… got my hair cut over a week ago and it was kind of short…

 still really short… my grandma used to have hair about this long… she brushed it straight up and it looked really great… been wondering whether I should give that a try… I use a brush that was hers so it reminds me of her on a regular basis…

before leaving this morning I took a few pictures of flowers in the garden…

the mandevilla is filled with blossoms and flowers…

  
it is just loving its spot in the garden and the weather…

  
looking toward the pond from the deck, got a nice pic of the canna with the waterfall in the background… happy that it is going through another set of blooms…

stopped on my way home to get my hair cut… bit short, but it will grow…

  
I always go on Wednesday because that is seniors’ day… today I mentioned that Wednesday is my day because of the savings and the woman gave me back a toonie and said I needed to tell them because she would never have thought I was a senior… should have given her a bigger tip… it did make me feel good, lol…

been talking with different people about reaching senior status… depending where you are, the number can be anywhere from 55 to 65… I have been quick to access the discounts because I am happy to have reached whatever the age is… at Perkins they have a 55 plus menu which has smaller size portions… perfect for me… at a number of attractions when I was in Ottawa, there were discounts for ages 64 and over…

looking forward to collecting Old Age Security when I turn 65… friends have had different reactions when they started collecting it… some were thrilled to be getting some additional funds and others were shocked that their lives were coming to a close, and they wondered what they had done with it…

interesting how we all see things differently… guess that’s what makes us us, lol…

a gorgeous evening… 

  

the temperature right now is 27 degrees and I am sitting on the back deck by the pond enjoying the sounds…

well not really… as I write this an ambulance is going by and the neighbour is running his shopvac, lol… up until that point I was listening to the waterfall and chickadees flitting about the garden and watching a little red squirrel dash across the main deck…

the canna is blooming again… bright and beautiful, it was the first thing I saw when I looked out the window this morning…

  
I am continually surprised by how much happiness a blossom or two can give me…

  
on a recent walk through the English Garden at the Park I got a lovely shot of some Lisianthus…

  
next year I am going to grow some, although I’m not sure where I will find plants…

there were very few water lilies open but this one caught my eye…

  
some of them have the most interestingly patterned leaves while others are simply green…

simple things really do make me happy… 

once again, as I spend these precious minutes steeped in the beauty of a late summer evening, watching the fish swim around the pond as the light fades, I realize what a gift my life is and how blessed I am…

it has been extremely humid here for a good portion of the summer… this is not the norm… well it wasn’t before…

for the last few weeks there has been fog or heavy dew nearly every day…

  
yesterday I took this picture of the front windows… first time it happened a few weeks ago I nearly had a heart attack thinking the seal had gone on the windows… not sure I’ve ever seen that before then…

  
this close up shows how thick the moisture covering the window was…

even though it was wet, decided to mow the grass in the garden because it was so long I didn’t want to sit out there… had the bag on and finished to discover there was nothing in the bag… had my neighbour come and look at it to see if the bag was on right… it had all stuck on the inside… so I spent quite a while scraping it off, lol… apparently I should have waited for it to dry up a bit…

the squirrels were busy… early in the day this red squirrel decided to have a snack at the front feeder…

  
later in the day either the same squirrel, or a relative, had a great time at the garden feeder while I was reading…

  
interesting because for most of the summer the grey squirrels have been the only ones I’ve seen…

felt under the weather for a good portion of the day, but was much better by the evening… certainly kept me from the gardening I had hoped to finish up…

early this morning I was forced to turn on lights because it was dark, sigh… as I was getting ready for work, thunder and lightning were filling the sky…

  
a few minutes before I had to leave, I ran outside and got this picture of the morning glory blossoms…

  
apparently the storm did a number on them…

got a nice picture of the dahlia… been thinking I might cut them and bring them into the house… so beautiful…

  
after work sat outside and was checking my phone when something crossed my vision and hovered in front of the basket of flowers just four feet from me… took a few seconds to realize what it was… a tiny hummingbird… it moved and hovered over the hot tub for another few seconds before flying off… needed to go in and finish dinner, but couldn’t leave the chair in case it came back…

  
finished off the day with a light ice cream cupcake… it’s been in the freezer for a couple of weeks and really felt like I needed to get it out of there…

ten to nine and it is dark…

going to have to take my SAD light to the office next week and start turning it on…

but, it is the weekend and I am going to enjoy every minute of it…

got home before noon after our last night of camping in the basement of my daughter’s new house… no furniture in the place other than our camping chairs and air mattresses… but it was warm, had toilets and running water… pretty darn nice…

when we got up this morning, the rain was going sideways as the wind was blowing like crazy… happy to be inside, lol… the guys ran out to check for basement flooding at one of the houses… they brought home egg mcmuffins for our breakfast… a tasty treat after the last few days of cooking on a campfire and doing endless dishes in a bucket, lol…

I brought in my gear and took a quick look around the garden as it had stopped raining during the drive…

  
this is a picture of the eggplant… when I left on Friday there were three hanging on the plant… apparently something or someone decided they needed them more than I did… hope they enjoyed them…

also picked some tomatoes while I was out there, finally ripening…a few of the Romas had blossom rot so I took the rest off…

  
had a few of them with my supper… tasted good…

it’s been overcast and windy for most of the day, but late this afternoon the sun came streaming through the window into the living room… had to get a photo…

sitting out beside the pond as I fill it up… water is rather low again…

  
everything was thirsty so used the hose to provide drinks, lol…

here is tonight’s harvest from the garden…

  
a Roma tomato and a lovely eggplant… ate both of them with my supper… very tasty…

can’t believe that the big morning glory blossom is going to open tomorrow, while I am at work, sigh… still hoping to be here during the day when one is opening…

  
goldfinches were at the feeders when I came out…and a bunny ran off when I was getting the hose…

   
 
I think this little one is a goldfinch but am not certain…

picked up tzatziki, a lovely loaf of bread, cheese biscuits, and radishes today at the Farmers Market… had half a bagel at lunch so will save the biscuits for tomorrow and take the bread camping, lol…

there was barely room to move at the Market… clearly the harvest has been good this year…

need to go in as it is getting dark… earlier and earlier, sigh… already missing the light…

took a few photos of the violet blooms today… the greenery in these plants is very deep and rich looking…

  
pleased with how they came out… this was with my iPhone…

had some delicious green beans for my dinner…

  
I spent the rest of the evening preparing about seven pounds of beans, mainly green, but a few yellow… lots of work involved…

  
many minutes of “top and tailing”… that’s what my mom called it… 

she’d be so proud… I remember when we lived on the farm in La Salle and had a large garden and how she loved working in it…

  
blanched the beans…

  
popped them into cold water and filled bags to go into the freezer…

  
rather proud of myself when I put ten packages into the freezer…

that was besides eating about 3 cups and putting aside a large container for us to take camping on the weekend…

great fun… now to rest, lol…

woke up early this morning and turned the tv on…

well, tried to turn it on… last night it was working fine, but this morning it is completely dead… sigh… I spend a lot of time on the bed watching it… tried everything I could think of, but nothing worked…

went, did grocery shopping, brought it home and put it all away…

then I rearranged the main floor tv room so that I felt comfortable watching in there…

spent a lot of time in the garden… there are at least two baby goldfish and possibly three… must have sat at the edge of the pond for half an hour watching for them…

  
moved the lounge chair onto the back deck so I could sit in it and watch the bird feeders… might just leave it there…

  
the goldfinches have been around and about… the garden just brightens up when the little flashes of yellow and light green flit past… and I even saw the bunny in the neighbour’s yard… 

much cooler today and sort of overcast, well not sunny, for a good portion of the day…

  
did pick up a few treats for next weekend in case I go camping again with the kids… we all love chips and I got the makings for s’mores… packed them all up in a bag ready to go…

day started with breakfast in the garden…

there were lots of birds… chickadees, goldfinches, sparrows, a woodpecker…

   
 
and I was very excited to discover a caterpillar on one of the parsley plants…

  
was enjoying the activity around me when all of a sudden I burst into tears… never know when the grief will hit you… must have sobbed for fifteen minutes before the sadness passed… miss my beloved so much…

did some gardening… one of the jobs was to take out many of the water hyacinth in the pond… couldn’t even tell if there were fish because it was completely covered over…

and discovered two baby fish… great news and they are both very pretty… moved too fast to get a good picture, lol…

got some nice shots of flowers…
