often, as I sit in the sunlight here in the living room, I take a moment to celebrate how blessed I am…

a comfortable home, food to eat, family and friends to spend time with, plants and flowers to enjoy, birds and fish to watch, books to read, and good health…

my entire being is replete with gratitude for my life…

then I take a few moments to send thoughts and prayers to so many who are currently not so lucky…

this morning my contemplating card was about gratitude…

a short time later I was putting on this lovely pashmina which hangs on the back of one of the chairs in the living room… it was a gift from a dear friend and is pink and purple…

I added a magnetic pin that I received at one of the SHEday events to hold it closed…

reminded me of how grateful I am to have many great and caring friends, and that I have participated in some amazing activities…

another thing I am grateful for is that when we remember something particular, usually we focus on the fun/good parts, not necessarily the things that weren’t as much fun, lol…

had a lovely time while I was still at my daughter’s sorting and taking photos of my Christmas gifts…

I absolutely love my soft purple blanket, and was happy to examine all of the other wonderful treats I received…

a few purple items, lol – socks, facecloths, gloves, tins, toothbrush, reusable sponge, phone holder… and quite a variety of chocolate – pistachio, Lindt, turtles, raspberry (my favourite), chocolate covered sponge… a tea and chocolate pairing that was flavoured with orchids, reusable bags, a Chihuly 2020 calendar, colouring books and pencils, a magazine on gratitude, a hand printed towel… plus a few more I can’t even remember…

yikes, so many gifts… I certainly am blessed…

the sun was shining into the room as I was gathering them for the photo… it was very meditative and I was able to reflect on each gift and the person who gave it to me… and the fun we had as we opened and shared our delight over each parcel…

a wonderful way to extend the joy of Christmas morning…

now that I’m home, I’ve found a spot for each one…

as I use each item I will be sure to spend a moment to remember the giver with gratitude in my heart…

for Advent my daughter sent me a collection of watercolour cards with quotations on the back… she painted each one and hand printed the sayings… I haven’t heard yet where she found them…

I had decided that this year I would spend time each morning being grateful for a particular thing, but didn’t have a list… that was as far as I’d got, lol…

I’ve found that the quotes on the cards have prompted me just enough to choose a topic…

it has been very cathartic…

here are a few of my favourites so far…

certainly a lovely way to begin the day…

started the day off reading the lovely Secret Adventures of Tiny Toba… it is about finding and sharing gratitude as the authors took a motorcycle trip to the East Coast… I think my boys are going to love it…

  
then I spent some time gathering items and packing for our trip to New York, leaving a week today…

 

treated myself to a pedicure with paraffin and hot rock massage… want those feet to be pretty and ready for all the walking we have planned…

  
hard to tell, but those are purple nails, not pink…

easy to call, book the appointment and go… didn’t even consider calling around to see if I could find someone to go with me…

big girl pants are fitting pretty good today, lol…

a pre-birthday treat this morning when the African Violet had flowers opening…

  

headed downtown early as I had a dental appointment to have my teeth cleaned… beautiful walk… and no cavities… 

brought in nuts, chocolate and fruit for the office to celebrate my birthday… find it such fun to treat my colleagues…

  

others brought in cookies as well…

treated to lunch out and when we got back was surprised with a rendition of Happy Birthday, a cute purple chrysanthemum plant in a bag for presentation, along with chips and a card signed by everyone…

  

when I got home the sun blasted into the living room and shone right on my collection of flowers and cards…

  

spoke with both of my girls, planned some of tomorrow’s celebrations and talked about our week…

I am filled with gratitude for another year where I have been surrounded with great colleagues, friends and family…

last year I made bookmarks using pictures I took at Chihuly Garden and Glass when we were in Seattle following our Alaskan cruise… the other side was the word gratitude with the names of things and people for which/whom I am thankful…

many of my colleagues still have it up in their offices… felt I needed to do something equally as nice this year, lol…

finally came up with the idea of note cards using some of my photographs…

spent a lovely time looking through pictures I’ve taken in 2014 and picked about thirty… used Publisher to produce 15 pages with two pictures on each…

went to my buddies at Staples and they printed, cut and scored them… picked up envelopes and folded and stuffed them…

put five together and wrapped them with ribbon… then I put nice labels on them and they were all done…

when I gathered them up into the groups of five, I think I managed to make each group different… quite the feat…

everyone liked them so I am happy… it is such fun to make something for others… particularly with help from technology…

the sky was lovely this morning as I drove to work… there were soft clouds across the sky which blurred the sun…

I got great pictures of beautiful roses with my phone and camera… I do love to take pictures of flowers…

IMG_7232.JPGon my way home I had to stop at Dairy Queen for a Blizzard… it was only to help the kids at Children’s Hospital, lol…

IMG_7238.JPGemptied the basement fridge freezer and put the garbage out for tomorrow’s pick up… excited to have the fridge and freezer down there removed by Hydro… they come on Monday to deal with the big freezer and Thursday for the fridge… already have some boxes down there for give away items and garbage…

I really have so much to be grateful for…

as I sit here watching the fish swim happily about in their clean aquarium (thanks to my son-in-law) I looked over and saw my daughter and grandson on the electronic picture frame…

reminded me of just a few of things that I have to be grateful for… one was the amazing experience of visiting Chihuly Garden and Glass at the base of the Space Needle in Seattle this summer… and getting to meet Dale Chihuly in person…

for many years George and I would make gifts to give to family and friends… this year I decided to do that again…

I spent time thinking of some of the things I am grateful for, as well as the people who fill my life… made a list of all those and put them in alphabetical order and produced a bookmark with the word gratitude and all of the things/people…

then I went through the pictures I took at Chihuly Garden and Glass and chose some for the back side of the bookmarks… I chose enough so that every bookmark had a different picture on it, making it unique, like the people who would receive it…

took the pictures and list to Staples where I had an exceptional customer service experience… the young woman helped me get three of the gratitude pieces onto a single 8 1/2 by 11 sheet and then printed the pictures on the back… she also cut each one, laminated it and cut that as well… she took great care as she worked and I was very impressed with the final product…

today I was touched to see that two of my colleagues have them in a place where they can be seen all the time as they work at their desks… one has hers right on her screen so it reminds her of gratitude every time she looks at her computer… the other is on a ledge at eye level where another can see it whenever she looks up…

gratitude is such a simple thing that we tend to forget, or rush past…

wishing you the opportunity to remember the things you are grateful for, and take a moment to savour them…
