a while ago my oldest asked why I left the cupboard door to the garbage open…

I think it is so I can have access all the time, but it did make me think back to years ago when one of my best friends always had her drawers and cupboard doors open when she was cooking…

seemed dangerous and made me crazy…

so it was a bit humorous that apparently I have started to leave this one door open…

this morning there was a tiny rainbow in the kitchen as I was taking the picture…

have to think about this a bit more and maybe start closing it …

last night when I got into the house and opened the fridge it was not cold…

I wondered if I hadn’t closed the door, so closed it and left it for awhile… still not cold when I opened the door later… the lights were working but there wasn’t any motor noise…

was able to pull it out from the wall, but not enough to easily get behind it to unplug it… so I had to get a stool and climb over a counter and twist around… 

eventually got it unplugged, but when it was plugged back in, still wasn’t working…

spent a bit of time taking stuff down to the fridge in the basement… so lucky to have that one… good exercise, lol…

now there is a giant white box in the middle of the kitchen that takes up a big portion of the room…

today I did some research and eventually got an appointment for someone to come and check it out tomorrow afternoon…

fingers crossed that it can be fixed…

the sun was shining brightly into the living room tonight as I sat waiting for my friends to arrive… four of the five of us were going to be together…

  
so amazing to be sitting in the bright light at seven thirty at night… yay… 

unfortunately there is still a bit of snow on the ground…

received the first drawings of the kitchen today… trying to look at them and decide whether it is just what I want…

  
interesting to see the kitchen from someone else’s point of view… 

been doing a lot of looking at things with an open mind lately and need to stay in that state of mind…

it is so easy to only see things the way you’ve done them for ages… much more difficult to envision possibilities…

need to keep that open mind…

woke early and looked out to see this lovely view of the moon…

 
a bit later I got ready and walked over to the “A” to meet my daughter for breakfast…
  
waiting for my guest… getting easier and easier to sit in a restaurant on my own… big girl pants, lol…

we went to a tile store to look at countertops for my upcoming kitchen reno…

it was great fun to walk through the shop, where they were cutting with giant tile saws, and the yard, looking at all the different options… they had to lift one out of a warehouse and bring it outside with a forklift… I think this is it…

  
made the whole process more real… I am getting a new kitchen…

we ran a couple of other errands before she dropped me at home and I was surprised to see these guests across the street…

  
we do have mallard ducks who live in the creek, but can’t remember the last time I saw geese around here… maybe they will stay and have babies;-)…

spent the day around the house…

Saturdays are my usual rest day where I do very little…

today I cleaned out two cupboards in the kitchen… put some of the items in the pass-along pile and added some to a different spot…

  
packed up all the shells in the living room coffee table and put they away upstairs in the bedroom closet… now, don’t forget where they are, in case I do, lol… still haven’t found my originals which I packed up about a year ago…

  
had some fun choosing and printing pictures… until I ran out of photo paper… tomorrow going to make a run to Stapes…

watched a number of my PVRed shows in between the bits of work…

  
finally, spent a bit of time making some soup with pumpkin and acorn squashes… came out pretty good considering I didn’t use any type of recipe…

up early and walked over to the “A” for breakfast with my son-in-law…

surprised to discover that they don’t open until 8 on Sunday… and we got there just a few minutes after 7…  so we went to Perkins… 

got dropped off not far from home and walked the rest of the way… 

saw this interesting X in the sky and had to stop and get a picture…

  
ran out to do a couple of errands and sat out for a few minutes before my daughter picked me up to go to her new house and figure out where to put everything in the kitchen… picked up a variety of squash on our way to the house…
 took the fixings for supper and after a busy but short afternoon, came home with my son-in-law on his way to work…

been thinking of my grandma lately… got my hair cut over a week ago and it was kind of short…

 still really short… my grandma used to have hair about this long… she brushed it straight up and it looked really great… been wondering whether I should give that a try… I use a brush that was hers so it reminds me of her on a regular basis…

spent the majority of the day at home…

did some laundry and brought in a couple of plants from the garden… saw the pictures from our photo shoot a while back… they came out very nice…

spent some time in the kitchen… made chicken soup and home-made macaroni and cheese… put together a spinach salad and picked up chocolate haystacks and raspberries…

had a nap and finished my preparations for dinner…

texted with my daughter in Ottawa who is sick with the flu… my home-made macaroni and cheese is one of her favourite meals when she is here… she was a bit sad, although she really isn’t eating…

I might have made a bit more than we needed for our dinner tonight…

it was lovely to have the day off so that I was well rested and enjoyed getting ready for our ReImagining gathering… because we meet in Mondays, I am often rushed after work…

great to spend time together and learn at the same time…

went shopping at IKEA after work with Crystal and Jeff, to order their kitchen… it was very exciting… couldn’t believe how many people were there on a Tuesday night, but kitchens went on sale yesterday so there was a crowd…

to top it off, they paid with cash, which kind of shocked the young woman at the register… I do wonder how long it is going to be before places won’t accept cash… she had to call a supervisor to double count the money… after all that, she forgot to make change, lol… luckily Jeff remembered before we left…

then, to celebrate, we went out for dinner at Red Lobster…

what a beautiful day…

sun was shining and the snow in the backyard was glittering like diamonds…

when I walked across the kitchen floor, it was cold right up to the sink… about half way into the room from the patio doors… when it’s really cold the floor is cold about a third of the way into the room… bit of a sign, lol…

gorgeous out but really, really cold… just checked the temperature a little while ago…

spent a bit of time in the kitchen because I’ve been working on a project with a deadline and have done nothing anywhere in the house… so, the kitchen was rather a disaster…

finally finished the project, so tomorrow I will spend some time catching up on chores…
