I was napping when the doorbell rang and I found three boxes on the doorstep… and a few days later, another box arrived…

they were from Irwin Tools and held a ton of excellent tools… levels, vice grips, knives, a measuring tape, a plane, straight lines, clamps and a ginormous hammer…

I won a contest on Instagram… how cool is that…

I will be sharing them with my grandson, son-in-law and maybe a few others, lol…

I had planned to barbecue steak and lobster for my birthday supper… unfortunately, it was cold and snowy, so I ordered in…

Monday the sun was shining so I went out at noon and barbecued both… even filled a bird feeder while I was waiting for the temperature to get to where I wanted it…

had half of both for my lunch and set the rest aside for a salad…

I am getting much better at barbecuing… clearly practice helps…

spent a wonderful hour this morning watching live bird feeds from Sri Lanka, India, Africa, and Latin America on Facebook via Swarovski Optik Birding…

what a treat…

came across this by accident and not sure how often they do these live feeds…

it appears they sell some very upscale binoculars and likely providing the feeds brings them customers, but it was lovely to watch…

recently had a phone call with a friend… she was stressing about getting gifts for Christmas… I suggested she do a bit of online shopping although she hasn’t done much of that…

made me think about all the items I have purchased online over the last month in preparation for the big day…

and how I learned from someone else that I could order from IKEA and have items delivered directly to my house…

very happy to replace my broken measuring cup and think this steamer will work well in my Instant Pot…

I have ordered from many places I didn’t even know existed… and have also been able to get some local items delivered across the country…

there has been lots of learning in 2020…

I’ve been laughing to myself off and on over the last few weeks whenever I looked at the lights in the front window…

I set up the timer twice, but of course, not correctly… I have watched it come on and go off at the oddest times… instead of going off at 11:30 pm, it might come on then… or just stay off… or just stay on… or…

so, yesterday morning, once again I reset the time and tried to get it set to the schedule where it comes on at 4 pm and goes off at 11:30 pm… this time I ignored the directions and just tried to figure it out…

so far, fingers crossed, it has come on and gone off at the correct time…

I am so proud, lol… and my son-in-law will be astonished…

it was rather chilly yesterday morning… I wore pants, a long sleeve shirt and my spring/fall jacket for my walk;-(…

after the walk, with my daughter on the phone, I had breakfast and checked out the garden, but it was still chilly, lol…

deadheaded the datura in the front flower bed, did some reading and watched a very informative webinar on bird migration…

I’ve been thinking a lot about all of my technology recently…

I love seeing my most current photos on the Google Display in the bedroom and kitchen…

it is great to be able to give a command from basically anywhere in the house and have it happen…

the light strip on the stairway can be bright or just barely on, like a nightlight…

I’ve now got a few routines, depending on the time of day, that get the lighting just how I want it…

I continue to learn new things that can be done, and that is fun… recently I figured out how to put grocery items on my OurGroceries app… as long as you ask with the exact wording, lol…

my grandson also has access and occasionally when he’s here he will change something and surprise me, lol…

I have two new switches, but need to get the electrician in to hook them up…

so, I signed up for a 3-part video course on flowers in the garden… it is from @floretflower on Instagram… they are located in Washington State and have a flower farm and seed business…

yesterday I finally got around to watching the first of the two that I have received so far…

it was all about pinching the plants… this morning I decided to give it a try and it was difficult, because it does feel counter-productive to trim back a plant that is growing nicely… but I did it, and I also removed the flowers on the dahlias and put them into a vase…

it will be interesting to see if it really does double the number of blooms produced…

I will watch and see…

a few days ago a great friend came by for a garden visit…

she brought me some gorgeous dark purple Japanese irises and a branch of lovely mock orange blossoms…

we had a nice time as we checked out everything growing in the garden and then watched the birds for ages… she knows lots about birds so I even learned a little, lol…

the house finch couple came by to visit and the house sparrows had a feeding frenzy as the parents and babies flew around and parents fed some babies and encouraged others to find their own seeds…

it was such fun to watch the way the youngsters fluttered their wings… and tried to land in various places… a few times I thought they were going to land right on us…

the sound was amazing as everyone was chatting and calling their family members, clearly wanting to be recognized, lol…

great fun to spend time with someone else who can happily listen to the water and bird watch for hours at a time;-)…

I’ve been working on a few technology projects, including reading a very long manual, lol… I am amazed at how easily and quickly I seem to have forgotten how to spend a serious amount of time learning…

I’ve also been learning and sharing information on how to make programs work… this makes me think about what a great job those who provide this type of information over the phone or computer do… clearly, they are amazing and should get lots of kudos…

it takes excellent understanding and clear directions to help get something working for someone from a distance… I think of my son-in-law who climbs into my computer from away and figures out the problem and either fixes it, or walks me through the process to get things working again… all without a single complaint about what I might have done that may have caused the problem in the first place…

thinking this is good practice in patience and happy to be relearning this skill…
