the fireplace made its way to the garage on October first…

it stayed there for quite awhile… during that time my housemate put it on a few for sale sites…

there were very few inquiries, but we weren’t in any rush to get rid of it…

recently, a woman came, measured it, and arranged to pick it up when she found some strong backs to help with lifting/carrying, lol…

she arrived a few days later, with a helper, and with my housemate’s assistance, got it into her vehicle…

its new home will be at her dad’s cottage where it will be installed outdoors;-)…

had a fun time remembering the “installation” which a friend helped me install a number of years ago as I was making adjustments to them…

the installation consists of twenty-nine photos of water lilies which I had taken…

over the years a number of the pictures had slipped in the frames and I finally got around to removing them one by one and taping the photos to the matting before reinstalling them on the wall…

there had been wine and a lot of laughter as we worked away to get all the pictures up on the wall, lol…

this time my housemate was able to help with the pieces I couldn’t reach, lol…

happy to have this project completed…

yesterday I remembered a bag of hearts, so I brought it downstairs and had some fun putting them around the house…

started in the bathroom with three small hearts…

then I put two furry hearts over the plants…

two glass hearts replaced the dragonfly and angel sun catchers which usually hang in the front window…

put the bag they came in at the top of the stairs…

finally, I put the heart wreath on the front door…

it was fun to decide where to place each piece, or grouping…

so I was all ready for today;-)…

had a lovely time this afternoon as I changed up the living room table drawers…

removed my favourite things which had been on display since the end of November…

I’d decided on a “love” theme for February and early March, so I looked around and found items that would fit…

I found butterflies, dragonflies, hearts, crystals, a few items which reminded me of travels, and the L O V E letters…

pleased with the results;-)….

had a bit of a giggle the other day…

as I pulled out my newest mug in the morning – the chickadees – I looked up at the kitchen display and saw that it was showing a photo of the first time I took a photo of the mug;-)…

I particularly enjoy the fact that this mug shows two chickadees, one on each side so that I can see the bird, even as a leftie;-)…

seemed a bit serendipitous…

on Monday, we had a “tour” of the redone basement when everyone arrived for our weekly gathering…

my housemate had tidied it up the evening before to be sure it was ready for the event, lol…

there is a lot of technology used in the space and it has been fun to watch as each piece has been installed…

it was interesting listening to the comments particularly as no one had been down there in years…

Monday was another delightful day at The Leaf…

our group went to view the Fleurs de Villes display after our birthday lunch at Gather…

as always, a walk through the Tropical Biome is rejuvenating…

we had such fun as each of us shared different points of interest as we wandered through the lush vegetation…

we visited the cacao trees, saw coffee beans, enjoyed new vistas of the fish, chatted about the banyan tree, spotted many heliconias, and got dripped on a few times, lol…

we moved on to the Mediterranean Biome for the Fleurs de Villes exhibition…

all of the mannequins (that represent the arts in the city) were very nicely done… we met two of the designers and spotted things we liked at every display… it was amazing to see the details that had been included…

after we’d been around once, most of us went around one more time, as we each made a decision on our favourite and filled out the ballot which we received as we entered the space…

the Fleurs de Villes exhibition is always stunning and such a delight to have had here two years in a row;-)…

one more visit to the exhibition in a few days…

for New Year’s dinner we tried something new…

we had prime rib… for many years we would have steak and lobster with twice-stuffed potatoes…

so this was fun to try… cooking the prime rib was interesting… first, it had to sit on the counter for six hours to reach room temperature, then it went into the oven at 500°F for half an hour, and finally the oven was turned off and it sat inside it for two hours…

quite the process, but it came out perfect for those of us who enjoy rare meat;-)…

there were mashed potatoes, mushrooms, Brussels sprouts with carrots, little Yorkshire puddings, and gravy…

delicious…

and this was my lunch today… which included prime rib and avocado… no lobster though…

on New Year’s day in the morning, I went out the patio doors and shovelled the decks…

then I walked around to the front and did the sidewalks and steps…

I used the shovel by the back door and it was very noisy, lol… it has a metal piece along the front and makes a scraping noise as it is used…

the one I normally use is plastic and much quieter…

I started at the back because I was waiting for my first-footer to arrive so didn’t use the front door…

twice during the day people commented that I was the only person they knew who followed this tradition, and also that when I was gone, the tradition would probably go with me, lol…
