today I turned seventy…
I have spent the last month planning how I would mark this special event, so there were, and will be, a few surprises for others…
I’ve been hearing about birthday weeks, so to start that off, on Monday I ordered Chinese food… it was lovely as I haven’t had any for a long time and I had leftovers for the next two days, which was a wonderful treat…
a number of parcels and envelopes arrived in the mail, which had to be set aside until today… this morning there were sparklers and singing;-)…
had a lovely gift opening time with the kids and received some delightful presents… paintbrushes, paint, a cool pad to make art pictures with, and a gorgeous window bird feeder;-)… my daughter is encouraging me to find a hobby… maybe it will be bird watching and then painting pictures of them… not likely, lol…
looking forward to trying all of the goodies… will need to wait for warmer weather to attach the feeder to the front window…
made poached eggs on potato patties, with bacon and asparagus… and I had it on my confetti plate… ended breakfast with half of a delicious pistachio cupcake which a friend dropped off for me yesterday…. nice start to the day…
texts, posts and phone calls have made the day extra fun… watched a cooking competition marathon…
lunch was cold shrimp with cocktail sauce… as I peeled them I was remembering fun times on the lanai in Florida, many years ago, with a dear friend…
moved orchids and flowers to set up the den for my video call with my BS friends and we had a great time… there was singing, tea, snacks, toasts, and lots of laughter… what a wonderful group of women…
there were more phone calls as the snow began to fall again… decided to order beef bones instead of barbecuing, as it was cold and windy…
that worked very nicely, it was delicious, and there will be enough for tomorrow’s supper…
what a ride these seventy years have been… truly, I am blessed and look forward to a year focussed on gratitude and living in the moment;-)…

I’ve been doing a little more painting with watercolours… I was asked to paint some lavender which I did… and this is how the best picture came out…
clearly I am not a painter and I’ve figured out that what I like most is how the paint ends up on the plate, lol…
see, they are pretty, right;-)…

I’ve been looking back at photos from our trip to Maui two years ago… enjoying it a lot…
lovely to have reminders of that special time…
on this day, we visited a lavender farm where we walked through a garden filled wth beautiful flowers, many of which we couldn’t name…
we spent time at Maui Chocolate Coffee tours where we chatted with the farm owners, got to see cacao growing on trees, and tasted a chocolate drink…
and we saw jacaranda trees in bloom… they are purple;-)…

big day today…
put in my contacts, found my purple sandals and put on real clothes, even a bra;-)… can’t remember the last time I got dressed to go out… searched for my thickest mask and then waited…
ready even before the three hours email reminder came, lol…
my grandson picked me up and we headed downtown to the RBC Convention Centre… this is also the first time since August that I’ve been in a vehicle with another person, yikes…
not thrilled about being around hundreds of people, as I’ve stayed alone in my house for months to protect myself…
we walked in at 5:24 pm and left there at 6:22… had to stay after the shot for thirty minutes as I have some drug allergies…
the process and space were well organized and all of the staff were kind and friendly… those of us in the special chairs were watched over the entire thirty minutes to be sure we were fine;-)…
we stopped and picked up fish, shrimp and chips on our way home… sadly, my fish wasn’t in the bag but there were two orders of shrimp, which again, unfortunately, were over cooked…
thankful to get this first dose and so happy to have the support of my grandson;-)…

so, my daughter has been sending photos of her African violet… there are four plants in one pot and currently there are over 50 blooms…
mine has one bloom, and I am trying really hard not to be envious, lol…
pictures on left are my 3 plants and the one bloom… on the right is hers, sigh…

went through my fabric stash and filled a laundry basket with pass alongs…
there was about a ten year period where I collected fabric to use to decorate tables, rooms, etc… enjoyed the memories of when the various pieces were used… laughed as I remembered a colleague who used to call them my rags…
this basket had been filled to overflowing and still has quite a few items in it that I couldn’t let go, including a number of scarves… so happy to also find a few items that I didn’t even know were missing, lol…
visited outside with a wonderful young woman who came by to collect the stash and always makes me feel great…
looking forward to seeing what she produces;-)…

a few days ago I separated the two commingled orchids… it was amazing how deep the roots had gone into each other’s pot…
after that I moved the majority of the orchids around… it is lovely now to see them all throughout both the living and dining room…
even many of the ones from the living room table were moved… the table looks a bit empty now, lol…
I am hopeful that they will all be happy in their new locations…

one of the things that makes me the happiest is spending time taking photos of bouquets…
yesterday I spent a good portion of the day taking shots from all angles with my Nikon…
as the flowers open and close I will have more opportunities to get some beautiful photos…
flowers make me happy;-)…

had some fun painting… well, playing with watercolour paint, lol…
got organized one day, when I taped the papers to a counter in the kitchen… thought that the height would be good for the activity…
the next day I tried different materials to paint with… used paper towel, aluminum foil, saran wrap…
it was fun to experiment and see what using each produced…
eventually, I was able to put them onto card stock… I am pleased with how they turned out…
since then I’ve done another batch… painted, separated the sections, trimmed the corners, put double-sided tape on them, attached to card stock and put them in envelopes…
