recently had a wonderful afternoon with my grandson…

he picked me up and took me to vote at the advance poll… then we went out for sushi and a visit to what is becoming our favourite fish store…

from there it was on to Costco, where everyone in St. James appeared to have decided to go at the same time as us, lol…

home and he helped put everything away, including all of the items that needed to go downstairs…

then it was off home to make supper for his siblings…

last year around this time we went out to Falcon Lake for some camping fun…

I picked up the cutest magnetic screen protectors, shaped like butterflies… I put the three of them on the patio screen door…

recently I caught this picture of an actual butterfly on the screen…

wondered if it was having a visit with its magnet friends, lol…

during the night it rained a few times but there was sun and blue sky this morning… along with a fair bit of wind…

the weather report called for rain later, but when we walked to the beach the water was pretty rough…

once everyone was up and had a simple breakfast we headed out for a day of shore fishing… and checking out resort stores…

although it rained off and on all day we had lots of fun…

particularly as I caught a small Jack and then the daddy caught a much bigger one… I focussed on improving my casting…

we found every boat launch on the highway in two directions and checked out a few spots we’d never been to before…

once we got back to the trailer, we napped and watched videos as the rain started to come down in a much more serious manner, lol…

had burgers for supper and then played board games…

now it is time for bed, with the hope that the rain will stop by morning…

this morning I ran a number of errands…

paid for my house insurance… it had been in both our names, but after my beloved died and they changed it to my name only, the birthdate was still his… cost me more money when I advised that I wasn’t that age, lol…

also changed over my car insurance to have the payments come out of the bank automatically, as MPI has stopped taking the monthly amounts from credit cards…

went to the credit union where they put a cheque in and immediately made a payment onto my credit card… handy, as there was no need to wait any additional time… added a few accounts and discovered that I could send up to $3,000 via eTransfer, although I am still ticked that they charge for that service…

took Indi for a bath, which she really needed as she’s been driven to Kenora twice in the last while and was covered in bugs…

finally picked up a few groceries before heading home… nice to get all that over with…

then there was eating, tv watching and napping…

had a spur-of-the-moment walk and breakfast with a friend…

she texted me early to see if I wanted to go for a wander through the English and Leo Mol Gardens… of course I did;-)…

threw on my clothes, walked over and met her at the Park…

we had a lovely visit as we circled the Gardens being careful not to get sprinkled on as many sections and paths were getting misted, lol…

from there we moved over to the Park Cafe for a great breakfast…

and then we enjoyed a little retail therapy…

lovely treat to start the day…

it has been over seven years since my beloved left us…

I still have difficult days… they often come in clusters and I’m in the midst of one right now…

today, when I was grocery shopping, orchids were on sale… so as a lovely reminder of my beloved I picked up two…

two purple orchids on living room coffee tableorchids

they do make me smile when I think of all the ones he brought home for me over the years…

he would have enjoyed the orchid farm on Maui…

I miss him so much…

turned the hose on to top up the pond again yesterday… maybe the wind has been evaporating the water more quickly because it wasn’t particularly hot…

then I got focussed on a few other things… was on my way to the garage to go grocery shopping and decided to check out the poppies before leaving…

when I got over there I realized that the water was still going… turned it off just as it was going to swallow up the bridge…

yikes… that was close…

had a lovely day…

woke up at nine and had a relaxing morning…

in the afternoon grocery shopped with my grandson and did loads of laundry… basically all the clothes I took got washed, although I didn’t wear everything, lol…

in the process of emptying the suitcases I gathered up my souvenirs and decided where they will live;-)…

picked up a heart-shaped amethyst and two rocks…

they have all gone into the coffee table for now and fit in nicely with the shells that are currently on display… I did find a few shells, but decided to take pictures and not bring any home…

picked up a cute little bag and a hand towel…

just possibly I have a problem with sarongs… got four all together, but I do use them all the time…

cooked chicken and potatoes for my dinner, with enough leftovers for a lunch, and made a batch of zucchini-basil soup…

bit of tv and then early to bed as I am back at the office tomorrow;-)…

big girl pants, connection, customer service, moments, shopping, taking care of business, vacation, WECM, widow, work

over the last few weeks I’ve been paying close attention to the customer service displayed in the various businesses we’ve been in…

I must say that the service provided has certainly affected which place we actually left our money, lol…

some restaurant staff were so courteous and quick to solve issues almost before they happened… others clearly were too busy or didn’t bother to take the time to connect… the tip meter went up or down based on those interactions;-)…

when we were in retail stores we were drawn in when the staff would connect with us in some way… in these tourist towns it must get boring, but watching the way that many of these employees/owners responded was very telling…

often if there were two people working in the store they appeared to ignore the customers as they would be busy getting paperwork done, restocking or visiting with one another…

we had the most fun in the stores where we were greeted pleasantly and they shared stories with us… those were usually the places where we made purchases…

one particular example of great customer service took place yesterday at Surfside Wood Fired Pizza… Caroline, the owner, was welcoming guests and taking orders when we arrived after paddle boarding… I asked if they had hot tea, and like many restaurants she advised that they didn’t… but after a few seconds she mentioned that she could make me a cup, as they do use tea for their iced tea… a little thing, but it sure made my day… after she delivered the tea and a delicious version of cinnamon buns, she stopped by a few times to see how we were doing… and the Goofy Bread was delicious…

hearing pleasant greetings or receiving welcoming smiles goes a long way to engaging with a customer;-)…

beautiful, beloved, big girl pants, grandma, groceries, Maui day two, memories, moments, rain, rainbows, relaxing, shopping, sunrise, walk, widow

we went to bed early last night because we were exhausted…

this morning we woke up twenty minutes before the sunrise… so we dressed quickly, and headed out to an iron bench on the property…

it was cool and very windy but we had fun watching ships and outrigger canoes as well as the sun shining on the clouds, lol…

we came in just as it began to rain… and then we saw five rainbows, one after the other, moving across the sky…

we took it gently and went to Whole Foods for snacks and breakfast items over the next week… always fun to see what items are available at the store in different countries… fresh juice and the view…

lunch and off to Paia… we wandered the town, saw surfers and large waves, tried mahi-mahi and had a quiet drive back…

we stopped for some avocado toast and packaged up a bit of salt for the eggs we picked up earlier… reminded both of us of George’s mom always slipping any excess jam or ketchup or whatever into her bag when we took a trip to the east coast many years ago, lol…
