excited this morning to spot the strawberry that was ripe enough to eat… and pleased that the birds and/or squirrels hadn’t beaten me to it…

I did paint those rocks red and put them around the plant to discourage thieves, lol… maybe they worked…

the strawberry was delicious;-)…

this plant was purchased two years ago and lives in a pot over the summer…in the fall it is transplanted back into the bathtub garden to overwinter;-)…

pollinated…

the strawberry plant, from last year, is doing very well…

we found a hamper at the store on July 5th, after either the birds or squirrels had eaten the ripe strawberries before we got to them, lol…

I kept the cover on them until a few ripe ones were ready to eat and then after we had those ones, I took the cover off so that the flowers could be pollinated…

as a number of yellow/green berries started to appear, the cover went back on the plant…

on Thursday I could see the ripe berries, through the screen…

removed the cover and picked three beautiful strawberries…

they were so sweet, yum…

so far I haven’t had a single strawberry, although at least two were nearly perfect when they vanished…

tonight we ran out to the store and picked up a folding circular hamper…

I cut away the top and popped the whole thing over the strawberry plant, pot and roller… fit perfectly;-)…

maybe I will get some strawberries now…

I am so pleased with how the garden is coming along, even with this rather changeable weather…

there are teeny little cucumbers starting to grow… at least one butternut squash has started, and there is a lovely beefsteak tomato…

the beautiful strawberry got eaten… and not by a human;-(… not sure if it was a bird or a squirrel, but I’m leaning towards squirrel, lol…

I did not put this almost completely eaten strawberry (which I found on the weekend) on the top of the deck…

and then, a few days ago I spotted one of the red squirrels racing across the deck and into the cedars, with a whole strawberry in his mouth, which he took from the hanging basket…

luckily, I have been able to get a few of the berries to eat, lol…

and they were delicious… now to figure out how to foil the squirrels from getting any more🤪…

been pretty lucky in the chocolate department recently…

picked up some Decadence Chocolate a while back… took my grandsons to the shop and they each chose a bar and we got the last chocolate-dipped strawberries for our supper… oh my, oh my…

might also have had some of my Berrilicious Chocolate bar…

Amanda, of Melt Chocolate Company, delivered a couple of boxes of bonbons…

I only had one and it was delicious… I shared the rest with my BS buddies and work colleagues…

I had planned to send some to my daughter in Ottawa, but with the rotating postal strikes we decided it didn’t make sense to send them as they need to be eaten while they are still fresh…

yummy;-)…

this morning it was warmer out and the morning glories were trying to open…

IMG_8246.JPGas the day went on I felt less and less well… by the time I left the office my throat was very sore and I was coughing more…

I am still sick with this cold and decided to head right to bed…

IMG_8249.JPGphone seemed to ring off the hook, but eventually the calls stopped… made some orange and strawberry juice which usually makes me feel better…

really need to shake this…
