a neighbour is growing sunflowers…
for the longest time we couldn’t figure out what the plants were, lol…
they are as tall as their house and just recently the sunflower head became visible… obviously, these plants have enjoyed the weather…

last night I ran around the house gathering all the boxes for a Big Brothers Big Sisters pickup today…
had all the boxes in the dining room and marked as required…
set the alarm to be sure I was up at 7:30 to put the boxes on the front steps…
made sure they were all on the steps before 8 but then when the boxes weren’t picked up by noon, I went back and reread the email from them…
apparently they are coming next Friday, not today… oops…
so I went out and brought all the boxes back in, lol…

went out to barbecue a steak for our dinner before the rain was expected and when I removed the cover, I found Barbie;-)…
knew exactly how to use her, lol…
the steak came out perfectly, and it never did rain…

Saturday morning I was surprised and amazed to spot a water lily flower popping up in the pond…
the reason I am surprised is that this water lily was in the pond all winter…
when I closed up the pond in the fall, just before I put a tarp over it, I was only able to bring out two lilies… this one was so stuck in the bottom I couldn’t remove it…
when I uncovered everything this spring, before I put water in, it had already started to sprout a bit, but was purpley-red…
it stayed that colour for weeks and only recently turned green… some of the leaves still have the purple colour around the outside edges…
and there is a second bud now… two buds at once has never happened before;-)…
what a shock…
so this fall I am going to leave all of them in the pond and see what happens, lol…

I was working away on the computer in the den, all by myself, and was startled to hear a loud bang from upstairs…
ran up, asking Google to turn on the bedroom light, and discovered that the glass shelf beside the closet had fallen to the ground… it and the weights that were sitting on it were fine😳…
put everything back and wondered if it was a reminder that I need to start using the weights, rather than just admiring their beauty, lol…
my heartbeat has returned to normal now…

I was surprised to see this on the garage cam this morning… it is a bit blurry, and at first I thought it was a cat, but then I recognized the tail…
thought these guys were gone for the winter, lol… although I don’t care if they come by when there aren’t any fish in the pond for them to eat;-)…

woke up to a winter wonderland…
there was so much snow on the window ledges that the cameras couldn’t see out… found some boxes and raised them up, lol…
not long after I got up, my neighbour came by with his snowblower and cleared the main part of the sidewalk and he shovelled the front steps as well…
a bit later I went and finished the front portion of the sidewalk where the snowblower can’t go…
hard to see the section I shovelled… it is always much narrower, due to the railway ties along that edge, lol…
I think that winter is here;-)…

got a great surprise today;-)…
I’ve had a booster shot scheduled for the second week of January at my doctor’s office and had checked with a nearby drugstore to see if I could get one sooner as the rules recently changed… unfortunately there were no appointments left at the moment…
got a call this morning from a friend as one of them wasn’t able to get the vaccine today and they offered me the spot, after checking with the pharmacy…
left home at 10:30, wearing my KN95 mask and was back, all boosted, by 10:50;-)…
just last night I heard that this mask is currently the best protection…
very relieved to have all 3 shots as there are plans for a small gathering on Christmas…
what a great feeling…
