excellent day…

walked to the Park and met a friend for breakfast… nearly drove because it has been quite slippery, but I decided to take enough time to walk slowly…

  
it was above zero and beautiful weather for a stroll… 

one of the newer pieces of technology that I really appreciate is the countdown timer at stop lights… rather than just having a flashing red hand you can see how many seconds you have left to make it across the street…

 
really appreciate this particularly at the corner by the Park… not nearly as stressful to get across the road…

so excited to look outside and see my solar dragonflies lit up…

  
haven’t been on for months so it means the sun is getting stronger… woohoo…

and just a few minutes before I had looked out the window to see this…

  
spectacular… not five minutes later I walked by and the sky was normal blue…

nature is really putting on a show these days, lol…

woke at five, then climbed back into bed to finally get up around seven…

  
my son-in-law worked the overnight shift and got home about 7:15 so we had tea and waited for the rest of the family to wake up… he’d seen the beautiful full moon on his way home and heard that it won’t fall on Christmas again until 2034 and that it hadn’t happened since 1977…

  
so I had to go out into the middle of their street to see it and get a few photos before it vanished… didn’t have my tripod so was pleased that this one came out…

then I took a few photos of their house in the early morning light…

  
everyone got up, with a bit of coaxing, and we opened gifts… we all did very well…

   
lots of technology this year with tablets and wired headphones for the little people…


and a wireless headset for the oldest, who was visibly pleased… which, for a teenager, is pretty spectacular… well done mom and dad…

  
my stash included some cool technology for meal prep and a few purple items, lol…

we sat down to freshly made waffles and covered them with fresh fruit and a bit of whipping cream…

  
by the time we finished making them no one was left at the table, so this is a picture of what I had, lol… it was delicious…

rests were had, games were played, books were read, naps were taken…

dinner was a lovely roasted chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, brussel sprouts, raw carrots and French fries made in the new fryer that only used a few tablespoons of oil…

quiet time with a bit of colouring after dinner…

  
home now and planning to head to bed… full day…

hoping that you were able to find some special moments in your day…

very happy the day is nearly over… been a long one…

this morning the sky was quite lovely… got a few pictures as we were driving to the office… also enjoyed the sun streaming through the windows throughout the day…

 
had supper with all the kids… technology is an amazing thing… we FaceTimed over burgers… we had A&W and they had Burger King… besides a teenburger, I had a few onion rings and two of their apple pies…

  
have had this picture on my phone for quite a while but hadn’t found the right time to use it… today seems like the right time… George loved to bring me orchids all the time and so when I see them I always think of him…

  
this has been blooming for weeks…

haven’t been able to talk about him all day… not even over dinner… our usual pattern is to share some grandpa stories during our meal, but I just couldn’t do it…

had a few aha moments recently regarding technology, lol…

just last week my daughter pointed out that I could put more than one fingerprint on my iPhone for security…

     

I had been under the impression that it only took one fingerprint…

I often pick the phone up in my right hand and then have to use my left index finger to open the phone up…

now I have added the thumb and index finger of my right hand so I can pick up the phone and use my thumb to open it…

way easier to get into the phone this way…

I have this cool lightbulb which is connected with the Smartpad app… it lets me turn the bedroom light on and off from my phone, or even change the colour of the light… great when I’m heading upstairs at night… now the light comes on as I am on my way up…


just discovered it has a wake up mode and sleep timer… when it comes on in the morning it lights up slowly so as not to shock you… very cool…

at night I set the sleep timer for the light and the tv…  the tv is a great sleeping pill for me, lol…

and just this minute I accidentally discovered that if I double tap on a word as I am writing, it will highlight it so I can use bold or italic on it… this is going to be a great time saver…

amazing how excited I get when I find a new piece of technology, or a new way to use something I already have…

now if I could just figure out iTunes, lol…

last night I spent an hour on the ground looking up at the stars… what a great ending to my camping trip… below is the birthday boy and his mom…

  
he and I spotted the space station and two satellites… we checked out some constellations and talked about the Perceids meteor shower which they should be able to see during the week…

during the night there were skunks, raccoons and even a wolf wandering around… my daughter and I didn’t sleep so well with all the wildlife visits, but my son-in-law slept through it all, lol…

after breakfast we spent some time at the beach and fishing… watched a bald eagle sitting on the top of a tree across from the beach, which was one of the few places where you could usually connect with the Internet… the campsites were not so good for that… 

  
my daughter and I headed home around 4:30… about half way here the phone started to beep and ping as Facebook, Instagram and all my other apps started to reconnect, lol… 

stopped at the Half Moon for a burger and shared a few fries and onion rings…

watered my plants and watched a lovely dragonfly on the window’s edge…

 
had a great time, but happy to be home… not expecting any wildlife bothering me tonight…

rather busy day… up early this morning to get the boxes out for pick-up…

  
ran over to the Mall to have my iPhone checked out… battery is barely making it through the day which isn’t so good for a brand new phone… went to MTS who sent me to the Apple Store… served quickly in both stores, and they offered up a few suggestions which might make a difference… have to back everything up and go back so they can reset it which may also make it better… technology is wonderful when it works…

got home and my son-in-law was here replacing the metal stringers on the deck stairs… he noticed a while ago that they were rusting out…

  
look great and feel much more sturdy…

after lunch we sat in the garden for a few minutes and I noticed this morning glory bloom…

  
been thinking about July of 2010 when I was in hospital… it was supposed to be our vacation so George came to spend time every day while he was off work… he knew how much I love morning glories and every morning before he came, he would go out into the garden and count how many of the flowers were blooming… occasionally he would take a picture for me as well… 

I found this blossom which should open tomorrow…

  
was testing my lounger out when the sky got a bit dark…

  
just got in and it poured for a couple of minutes… after supper I went out to write my blog, but it was kind of chilly… came in and all of a sudden it was pouring…

 
the mandevilla is covered with flowers and buds… looking forward to the morning glory beside it starting to flower as well…

quite the day… got this shot of the wasps building a nest on my deck…

  
was able to get really close as they weren’t moving much… cool this morning after yesterday’s heat and humidity…

walked to the grocery store to get hamburger for tonight’s dinner with the kids and as I was walking up the street to the house reached for my phone to take a picture of the haze and couldn’t find it…

kind of freaked out thinking I might have dropped it in the store… rushed into the house and tried phoning it before jumping into the car and racing back to the store… and there it was, singing in my bag, just not in its usual place… hiding under my OneTouch Mini…

took a few minutes to calm down, lol… I am rather meticulous about putting things away in the same place in whatever bag I have so this doesn’t happen often… thank goodness…

my daughter and I went out to get some fresh veggies and stopped and picked up some groceries for their family…

when we were home a bit later I mentioned how my phone was running out of charge much more quickly these days…

she had a look at it and then checked to see when my contract was up… at 4:45 she discovered that it was already  up and at 5:00 we were at the phone store in the mall:-)…

got an iPhone 6… didn’t take too long and it is saving me $5 or so a month…

because I don’t use iCloud to back my phone up, they weren’t able to set it up for me…

had to check out all the phone stores to get a case… eventually got two…

  
this one and a clear one which I will put one of my photos in…

came home and my daughter started backing it up… but it took longer than they were here for, so she told me what to do when it finished…

  
took some great pictures with it but, in the very long and convoluted process to get it set up, had to delete them all… 

but the sun was really red as it was going down tonight, lol…

well, it is almost set up, sigh… I am on hold with MTS because I can’t remember that password… looks like everything else is good to go…

who knew it would take minutes to buy and then hours to set up, lol…

technology at its finest…

had a great evening…

friend came over, brought dinner, cookies and petunias… with an appetizer of chips, lol…

  
after supper we worked on a database program… had to work in the living room using the power cord that has the three-prong plugs… had a computer and a printer hooked up…

great fun as we learned what it could do, while entering information… still need to figure out a few things…

really enjoy working with new technology and helping others figure it out..

this afternoon I ordered a set of straps for my fitbit… 

this was rather fun because I’ve been meaning to do this for a long time…

I had purchased a violet strap which has developed a tear so I’ve been wearing my black strap, but really missing the pretty one…

  
when my Ottawa kids were here last June, my son-in-law picked up a power bar with USB ports in it… he attached it to the wall by the couch in the living room and tied up all the cord… very tidy…

  
I use it all the time to charge my fitbit, and even my phone when I need it to be on the main floor…

my fitbit has been a great help for me… since I got it I’ve tried to make sure I met my step goal every day… since my diabetes diagnosis it has helped keep track of other exercise and I have combined it with MyFitnessPal which records my food intake…

technology is pretty cool…

left the office at one today, for an appointment…

was going to a place I hadn’t been before so I was a bit worried about time…

fairly early in the drive I heard sirens and eventually spotted the fire truck behind me… vehicles were moving over and trying to get out of the way and once it had gone past, everyone tried to get back into the lane they had been in… that doesn’t always happen which can be really frustrating… some people just don’t want to let others back in, sigh…
close to where I needed to turn off the main drag, another fire truck shows up in the rear view mirror… had to pull over two lanes to get out of the way and then it goes by and turns to the right… practically in front and on top of me…
thanks to an app on my phone, I found my way to just where I needed to be, right on time, even with fire truck interference…
do love technology when it works, lol…
little more technology and here’s the result…
