my middle grandson came over this morning to spend the night…

first thing we did was change the display in the living room table… took out the Chihuly bits and put in shells, books and rocks…

he has an artistic streak so it was fun to watch as he decided what needed to go where…

off to the Park, where we had brunch, walked through the Conservatory, and stopped by the Zoo to see if his toque had turned up in the lost and found…

sadly, no toque…

home for a rest and then some roasted lamb for our supper…

it was cooked perfectly…

lovely day filled with special moments…

this morning the sky was stunning… it started with white clouds, then dark clouds, and finally sunshine, all within what felt like minutes…

then it was off to the Park for breakfast and a walk through the Gardens with my friend…

as I walked there, the sky continued to provide a variety of views…

once inside the Park, came across a huge tree down on the pathway…

great meal and stroll as we caught up on one another’s lives over the last few weeks…

the Gardens were at their absolute best with blooms bursting out everywhere we looked…

clearly the gardeners have been working nonstop…

and there were others hard at work in amongst the flowers…

this morning the Boy and his Boot were dry, but there were some new plants in the pond and they were lovely…

took a turn around the Riley Family Duck Pond and got a few shots of some mallard babies… not so little anymore…

nice view of the Pavilion and Lyric stage…

sky continued to change on my walk home… bit of darkness off in the distance as I crossed the bridge… and the wind started to pick up…

by the time I reached the corner of my street the temperature had probably dropped five degrees…

and it was very dark… but it all blew over and was sunny for the remainder of the day…

was sure to have my supper organized and eaten before six, when the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies started…

firmly ensconced in front of the tv… happily won’t have to get up in the middle of the night to watch as the time zone is so close to ours…

going to be busy for the next seventeen days, lol…

excellent day…

walked to the Park and met a friend for breakfast… nearly drove because it has been quite slippery, but I decided to take enough time to walk slowly…

it was above zero and beautiful weather for a stroll…

one of the newer pieces of technology that I really appreciate is the countdown timer at stop lights… rather than just having a flashing red hand you can see how many seconds you have left to make it across the street…

really appreciate this particularly at the corner by the Park… not nearly as stressful to get across the road…

so excited to look outside and see my solar dragonflies lit up…

haven’t been on for months so it means the sun is getting stronger… woohoo…

and just a few minutes before I had looked out the window to see this…

spectacular… not five minutes later I walked by and the sky was normal blue…

nature is really putting on a show these days, lol…

wonderful day… up early and walked to the Park Cafe where I met all the kids…

after breakfast we went to visit the polar bears… saw five of them today… although maybe it was all six, because it is difficult to tell them apart…

I am sure that these three were playing ring-around-the-rosy in the pool…

got a good shot of all of the boys with a friend in an inukshuk…

and I was very happy to pick up a new keychain, this one made with wood… my last one lost a leg recently… I bought it with George when we were visiting Vancouver Island…

after a great time I walked home and soaked in the hot tub before having a nap…

got a shot of the special tree by the Park bridge… looked a bit cold, lol…

also got some shots of the snow which looked full of diamonds today…

last night I spent a few glorious moments watching the Northern Lights dance across the sky… I was just getting out of the hot tub and could have missed the whole thing but was so lucky to catch it…

tonight I got a picture of the moon and clouds… sadly, not a good one, but it was a beautiful view…

and topped off the day with eleven thousand steps:-)…

Assinibone Park Duck Pond, Park Cafe, skating at the Duck Pond, the Olympics, watch as they happen

I love the Olympics… trying to figure out how I am going to watch as much as possible… work can be such an inconvenience on occasion… looking forward to the opening and closing ceremonies as well…

in previous years I have watched many of the events as they happen, even if that is in the middle of the night… no doubt there will be lots of long nights in February…

in winter I enjoy all types of skating, skiing, snowboarding, bobsleigh and luge… not too much of a hockey fan as the games go on forever…

used to watch sports with my Dad… we would often go to events at the arena and it was from him that I learned what good sportsmanship (sportspersonship?) was all about… he would cheer whenever anyone did a good job, didn’t matter at all what team they were on…

have tried over the years to instill that sense in the girls, encouraging them to play for the fun of it, and cheering on every good play, regardless of who made it… been working on it with the little boys as well…

I was more a skater than George was… in school I did a bit of speed skating and when I was very young remember participating in the Community Club figure skating events, but am not even sure I could stand on skates these days…

skating at the Duck Pond, February 2012…

George was always a great audience, encouraging everyone as they skated around the Pond… after the skating fun, he treated everyone to lunch at the Park Café…

hope the weather warms up a bit so we can go to the Duck Pond this year…
