the pond is doing some interesting vanishing tricks…

currently, every two or three days, it tries to empty itself…

cannot, for the life of me, figure it out…

everything will be fine for weeks and then all of a sudden it starts to lose water… if I turn off the waterfall it doesn’t lose anything…

I can fill it up one day and two days later it is so low I am worried that the fish won’t survive… another time once it is full it goes down really slowly over the course of a week…

temperature and wind don’t seem to affect it…

bizarre…

as we drove out to Rabbit Lake for the Regatta we stopped so I could get a shot of the runway, lol…

reminded me of driving along Ness by the airport…

it was a lovely sunny day, until it wasn’t… all of a sudden these huge dark clouds appeared and the thunder started rolling…

our guy was at the start line for his first race ever when they announced that everyone had to come off the water…

then we waited to see if the downpour was going to stop… in the club, along with all the boats they had sandwiches, fruit, treats and souvenirs, which we might never have seen without the rain, lol…

all the grandparents stood around under the awning with the mother and son and had a snack…

there was one lighting strike right across the lake which had everyone jump about a foot off the ground… we could smell the ozone… after about 45 minutes the rain stopped and clouds broke up…

the sky cleared and the races were back on… our boy did very well… he finished his singles… it was a long way…

then he had to come back to the dock and jump into the boat with his doubles partner and off they went… they got a third place in that race… all in all it was an excellent start to his rowing career…

lots of fun to watch but we did learn that we are going to need binoculars for this sport, lol…

had planned to spend the day in the garden, but woke up to rain coming down…

left the patio door screen open overnight so it was rather chilly when I got downstairs…

eventually the rain stopped and the sun came out… but then it clouded over again… sun peaked out now and again for the remainder of the day…

although I never left the house I put on red and white to commemorate Canada Day… started with long pants but then moved to shorts when I thought I’d go outside, only to discover it was chilly out again… never did get outside…

was very happy to see the new picture when I flipped the page on my Chihuly calendar…

reminded me of our visit to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens last June… took these pictures of a similar tree which was stunning, during the day and at night…thinking about where we might go next to see more Chihuly…

looking forward to a week in Ottawa towards the end of the summer… we will be going to Mosai Canada to see a version of the Goddess which we saw in Atlanta…

have seen a few teaser pics on Instagram of how she will look… here’s one…

can hardly wait to see all of the installations at the Jacques Cartier Park… gardens and water, two of my favourite things;-)…

excited to see the fish swimming around in the pond tonight…

they’ve been outside for a few months now, but have spent all their time hiding under the bridge…

when I went out to take a photo tonight they were swimming around in the open area… yay…

as I was looking for a title for this blog, I came across this pic of the pond near the end of the construction…

still makes me laugh a bit when  I think back to having the pond reconstructed… it had been leaking for a few years so I thought having it redone would be a bit of a memorial for George… he loved the ponds…

so happy the fish are finally getting more comfortable… it is quite amazing how much I miss them when they move out to the pond, lol…

on Saturday I picked up a little greenhouse to start plants in… seems like this should be neat and tidy…

didn’t get around to starting anything on Sunday, but this morning I put 10 cups of water into the container before I left for work…

seemed like a lot of water… when I got home it had all soaked into the mix…

have a headache so the seeds are not getting planted tonight…

gonna have lots of morning glories this year… and maybe they will start blooming earlier:-)… woo hoo…

up and out of the hotel for a 6:15 am pick up to go deep sea fishing…

from the time we left the marina we saw a school of catfish, pelicans, a huge iguana way out on the limb of a tree, a beautiful blue heron, seagulls riding on turtles, a pair of dolphins and more turtles than I can count… a marlin and a sailfish, which did not want to bite on any of the hooks we had in the water…

and to top it all off a whale spouting and then showing us its full tail…

a glorious day on the water…

there was blue sky, fog, sun and gentle seas…

technology wherever you go…

sun starting to peak through the fog…

we all love being on the water but had hoped that my son-in-law would have had the fun of catching a marlin…

 here fishy, fishy, fishy…

waiting with my son-in-law… and getting sunburned feet, sigh…

as I was taking pictures of a very calm pelican, at the back of the boat the boys were throwing the leftover bait to a huge crowd of waiting pelicans, lol…

we ended up walking for a while on our way back to the hotel and came across some sunning iguanas…

how blessed to be able to spend an unforgettable time with family…

spent the morning wandering through the Park…

most everything was damp and there were lots of drops on the flowers…

this branch was so pretty with the raindrops…

purple water lily in the lily pond…

dahlias are so beautiful… even if they are not purple…

these are so delicate and airy… and the water drops look great…

not sure what kind of duck this is but it was kind enough to stand still so I could get a good shot…

once I got home I had some lunch and a nap… and headed down to the U of W to watch my grandso play volleyball… it was great fun and they played really well…

got this great shot of some of the action… then we blasted to their house, grabbed jackets, picked up supper and headed to his final soccer game of the year… at the end of the that game, one of his buddies poured water on him so he was rather damp on the ride…

back to the volleyball tournament where he played one last game…

I think he will sleep well tonight… me too, lol…

yesterday I took a few photos before I turned off the pump in the pond…

the waterfall is not flowing very well and I am going to be away for a few days, so I turned it off… I don’t want the pump to burn out if too much fluid evaporates…

this begonia has just been growing like crazy… apparently it has enjoyed the rain and heat…

first thing tomorrow I will water everything before I leave…

wonder how the garden will look when I get home…

thought about our vacation and what were the most special moments for me…

three things came to me… the mesmerizing sound of the loons on the water…

it is such a haunting and amazingly beautiful sound…

the second sound that stood out for me was the rustling of the birch tree leaves… it often sounded like a gentle rain…

and finally, the sound of water rushing up into my face when I was trying to stand up on the wakeboard…

all water sounds, lol…

what a lovely day… heard a couple of loons as we were having our breakfast and packing our lunch…

sun shone and we spent the whole day on the water…

started with a number of rides on the big tube…

the two little guys practically fly when their daddy tries to dump them off, and there are huge grins on all their faces throughout the process…

the oldest grandson and I had a blast, when I wasn’t screaming, lol…

picnic on board and we toured around half the lake, admiring the cottages… then we swam off the boat…

after that, there was wakeboarding action… my daughter, son-in-law, and middle grandson are all naturals… my oldest was very close to getting up but the water was getting a bit choppy…

then it was my turn… they had to lower me into the water once the boots were on my feet…

my daughter got right in with me and helped me get positioned…

tried and tried but couldn’t get up… laughed the whole time though… they moved on to kneeboarding and the three oldest boys in the group had a great time, lol… and were very good at it…

travelled home after a fun time…

got the boat docked and headed back to the campsite…

my daughter and I went on little tubes (from our visit to Courtenay, many years ago) at the water by our site… bit breezy so we ended up with rock burns, lol…

made and had supper, which was cooked over the fire once again… and a couple of us are trying to save the fire, while the others went out for supplies, but it isn’t looking good, lol…

hoping you had a special day too…
