recently I washed my tissues and papertowels… now they are all reusable…
once the tissues were clean, dry, and folded, I put them into the old Kleenex box I’ve been using for them… it works great to dispense them one by one…
since I’ve been using them I’ve taped one end of the box over and over but it is getting a bit messy looking…
this time I thought about using an elastic band instead, and it worked perfectly…
it feels as though the weather has been all anyone is thinking about these days…
it has been raining for days and then it turned into snow… there are puddles (or lakes) everywhere and many people have been struggling with water in their basements…
with another gloomy day, I decided to make soup… I used up not-so-fresh zucchini, carrots, onions, celery, and the last of the frozen cauliflower in the freezer… then I added various bits and pieces to season it up…
the result came out nicely and I will have some tasty lunches over the next few days…
today, for my seventy-first birthday, I’ve been treated to phone calls, texts, and messages on social media…
I’ve also received a gift of a flower bouquet subscription, an actual bouquet of flowers, and chocolates… these people know me well, lol…
my buddies also came by and sang to me on the sidewalk…
our birthday bag has travelled many a mile from one house to the next and has been repaired a number of times… it has even gone missing for a year or two, but always turns back up…
just before they surprised me, I had been listening to music released in 1951… much of it seems very old, lol…
first thing this morning, I went out and shovelled the steps and sidewalk after more snow over the last few days… it was a treat to have blue sky, sunshine, and weather warm enough to wear a spring jacket… and the snow on the trees was pretty…
I also did some yoga, had a nap, took flower photos, got some reading done in the sunshine, attended a Zoom meeting and possibly ate a bonbon or two with some tea…
today is Easter, so I decided to make all my meals a treat;-)…
for breakfast I had two poached eggs with a potato patty…
there may have been a little chocolate eaten…
lunch was the last of my dimsum from Gimli Fish… the three packages are around $10 each and they provide three meals… it is a great option for me…
I did have a laugh when I microwaved the first batch… instead of using the timing for the microwave, I used the ones for steaming… it didn’t taste quite as good as usual that time, lol…
supper was a version of stuffed pork chops which I used to make for my beloved and I all the time… I used country style spareribs over my homemade stuffing…
came out beautifully and the bottom of the stuffing was deliciously crisp…
I’d been planning to go out and shovel the steps and sidewalk to the street and had even put on the extra pants this morning…
I had also moved my winter jacket from the bottom of the door and was surprised to find snow along the threshold… put my jacket next to the vent to warm it up a bit…
just before I was getting ready to head out, I heard my neighbour’s snowblower…
not only did he do the main portion of the sidewalk and the paths from his driveway to mine, he also shovelled the front steps;-)…
I finished dressing and went out and shovelled the last six or eight feet to the road so that people can make it to the door, lol…
we had a nice little visit outside before heading into our houses…
later, I went out back and shovelled a path to the hot tub… not sure if it will open as there is a lot of ice along the edges…
the creek is very full as the majority of snow has melted…
a bit concerning as we are expecting a blizzard with upwards of 15 inches of snow in a few days…
I walked down and took a few photos today after returning home from the appointment with my doctor…
the other concerning thing was the doctor’s comment after I told him I had actually gone into a store recently… he knows how careful I’ve been and noted that he didn’t need to tell me I shouldn’t take any unnecessary risks…
made me think we aren’t quite as far along in returning to the new normal as we’ve been thinking;-(…
today, my grandson came over and we went to the fish store to pick up food for the goldfish and a couple of filters for the pumps… you read that right… I went shopping;-)…
I ended up buying a ginormous pail of fish food but it is way more cost effective this way… I will fill a number of ziplock bags and pop them into the freezer… won’t be needing more for quite some time, lol…
I also picked up some feeder-fish…
not that I needed more fish, but they were a great size – about the same as the babies when they came into the house in the fall… and were only a dollar each;-)…
there will be a couple of big schools this summer…
recently my grandson and I had a conversation about some fun times… two of the things he remembered are below…
one was a tubing trip down the river in Courtenay, BC, where I was knocked off the tube by a tree branch and lost my new hat… everyone but me was quite happy as they hadn’t liked it, lol… he was around seven at the time… I ended up with a bruised leg and a gash on my head… it certainly was something I won’t forget, and apparently neither will he…
the other memory was around a beta fish in a vase that I kept on my desk at one of my workplaces… he has always been interested in fish and is a great collaborator with the goldfish…
so interesting to hear the things he remembers;-)…
a year ago my daughter sent some gifts for a friend to drop off to me on January 1st…
amongst the items was a bar of charcoal hair shampoo… I have really enjoyed it and it is now a sliver, lol…
apparently the company may have closed, and the shampoo doesn’t appear to be available…
I went online and found something that might work, ordered it and it arrived last week…
not sure if it is going to work… it has a fairly strong smell so I have set it out on the window ledge in the bathroom and will see if the smell dissipates…
then I will try it on my hair and see how it goes…
