dragonflies have been flying around the garden like crazy…
some have been dropping eggs into the pond, but most of them are clearly snatching mosquitoes out of the air…
I’ve managed to catch a few when they are taking a little break;-)…

I did not put this almost completely eaten strawberry (which I found on the weekend) on the top of the deck…
and then, a few days ago I spotted one of the red squirrels racing across the deck and into the cedars, with a whole strawberry in his mouth, which he took from the hanging basket…
luckily, I have been able to get a few of the berries to eat, lol…
and they were delicious… now to figure out how to foil the squirrels from getting any more🤪…

getting to be quite the handyperson;-)…
I’m happy with the placement of the wireless camera but wanted to put back the metal section of the barbecue table as it is bright red and a bit obtrusive looking…
I found a small metal piece in the garage, pulled out the drill, and screwed it to the deck… then the magnet on the camera stuck to it perfectly…
works well and I will still be able to bring the camera into the house come winter…
looks good… way to go me…

what a treat it was to watch a new batch of baby house sparrows test out their wings…
they kind of hover when they are trying to figure out where they want to land…
and they don’t really understand that a person might not be safe to land close to…
once they’ve finally found a spot, they sit there and call mom or dad to come and feed them… I finally got a photo of the feeding, although it is a little fuzzy, lol…
so cute to watch…

Wednesday was another beautiful day…
put out all the cushions as a dear friend was coming over later in the day, and it always looks so much nicer when they are all set out…
Hilda the Gardener came and weeded and moved a few plants… we had a lovely visit while that was happening…
I climbed into the pond and cleaned the filter which made the waterfall happy;-)…
read a good book and had lunch on the back deck with some of my ripe tomatoes and fresh basil…
had a delightful supper and visit with a friend I haven’t seen for ages and toured the garden with her…
also shared some poppy and morning glory seeds…

drove to Oak Street on Tuesday, just before the rain, to pick up my bouquet subscription…
I took a box that hooked into the seatbelt so that the flowers wouldn’t fall over… it worked perfectly…
such a treat to get fresh flowers every week… and they are lasting very well…
got a few photos as the drops started to fall…

the rain came down really heavy on Tuesday morning…
when I went out to check the garden I saw that one of the tomato plants had been knocked over… I was so shocked I didn’t even get a picture…
thankfully, I had a tomato cage in the garage, and it took a bit of finagling to get it over the plant… apparently it should have happened when the plant was much smaller, lol…
also pleased to see lots of flowers and the beginnings of the cucumbers;-)…

the other day I saw a monarch flying around the garden and laying eggs on the milkweed…
I went to check out the two milkweed plants that are just by the waterfall to see if any eggs had been left there…
and it was there that I discovered this little caterpillar… of course this is the hardest spot to get any pictures, lol…
and I was happy to still see it after the downpour…
nature is amazing…

there was quite a thunderstorm early Saturday morning…
it was the first day in a long time that I ate breakfast in the house as I’ve been doing a great job of being outside if it isn’t raining…
eventually it was dry enough to spend some time in the garden where I had a bit of a duel with the gray squirrels that have found a way to get to both of the slinky protected bird feeders…
and then, I spent a lovely time watching a monarch flit around the space, landing a number of times on the milkweed and then flitting around some more…
what a treat and how lucky was I to get to enjoy those moments;-)…
