what a treat;-)…
last Saturday I was invited out for lunch… it was cold and overcast, so a nice bright spot in a dull day…
we went to Sushi Cushi and had a lovely meal… we often over order, but this time we got just the right amount…
a fun time and I enjoyed every single bite;-)…

drove out to Shelmerdine last Friday, to pick up a water lily for the pond, and may have picked up a few other items, lol…
I picked up two different impatiens plants which I am going to put into the pond;-)…
also found a beautiful spiral begonia…
I found a variety of morning glory seeds, as well as some for cucumbers and beans…
once home they went into the garage because the temperature was threatening to go to 0°C…
and then I moved all the plants waiting to be planted into the garage…
found a small pail and covered the tomato which had already been planted…
since then the plants have all been moved outside and are doing well;-)…

it was mainly overcast and rainy last Thursday, so I spent most of the day inside…
being as the weather was not so great, I decided to work on a project that has been on the list for a while, lol…
first I printed out a list of JD Robb books that I found online…
next I removed all of the books I have and set them on my desk…
I cut some coloured paper to use as markers and compared the list with my books and inserted a sheet of paper where the missing books belonged… I also checked off which books were still needed…
the books went back onto the shelf and I then prepared a spreadsheet listing the whole series and marking which books I still need to complete my set…
happy to get the project completed…
now to send the list off to a friend and Globosapiens bookstore to see how many more we can find;-)…
once I find the remainder, there will need to be some reorganizing of the shelves, as I still need around nineteen, lol…

I finally removed the under-bench lighting that hasn’t worked since before my beloved died… you can see it in this photo… it is the tube-like piece hanging below the bench and looks messy…
I hadn’t realized that he had fastened it with screws and was thinking what a huge job it was going to be to lay on my back and move around under the bench undoing it, two screws at a time…
then I got the bright idea to cut sections of it and pull it out…
woohoo, it worked perfectly and the deck looks much tidier now…
now to decide if I want to look for something similar to replace it, sigh…

on May 9th, we found the chicken wire we’ve been looking for, to add to the arches in the side garden…
I am hoping this will make it easier for the peas, cucumbers, and beans to climb up and over the space;-)…
my housemate did a great job of zip tying it all around the arch, and it kind of glitters;-)…
peas were planted and have already popped through the soil…

a week ago the lilac was moved from the back garden to the front of the house…
grass was removed and a hole prepared by my housemate, and it was planted by Hilda the Gardener, and then thoroughly watered…
it hadn’t liked the spot where it had lived in the garden for the last ten years, but the bunnies did enjoy some of its bark over the winters…
happy to see new leaves forming along the branches…
hope it stays happy in its new spot…

did a bit of planting on Wednesday, on one of the warm and sunny days, lol…
added pansies to a section of the bathtub area as well as two pots on the stairs… included a bit of alyssum in the pots… looking forward to the scent as I walk up and down the steps…
the tomato went into one of the planter boxes in the side garden… I tried to get the calla into a floating container, but it didn’t want to cooperate so I left it for a bit, lol…

we spent a bit of time in the fall attempting to make the shed squirrel and bunny proof…
unfortunately that meant the squirrel or squirrels moved into the garage for the winter…
and, apparently, they really liked the fabrics on the hanging chair, sigh…
I guess I’m going to be looking for a new chair, and will make sure it goes into the basement for the winter;-(…

Sunday was a glorious day… I was up early and put out all the cushions for the first time this year…
on Saturday all the umbrellas, hanging chair and planters made it out of the shed, so it is starting to look like a lovely place to be…
spent the majority of the day outside moving around, finding the shady spots…
eventually I ended up on the main deck…
after a very nice dinner of steak, baked potato and mushrooms, all cooked on the barbecue, I just couldn’t go inside, so I sat in the dark and enjoyed listening to the leaves as the warm wind blew and contemplated what else might happen in the garden…
throughout the day, had fun consulting with my kids in Ottawa about plants for their garden and chatted with them a few times… besides being Mother’s Day, it was also their anniversary;-)…

I am so excited…
spent some time on Friday bringing out pots for various spots in the garden…
amongst the pots was one with a clematis that was moved into the shed in the fall…
and I think it has already started to grow;-)…
very pleased that it made it through the winter and looking forward to watching it develop and bloom again this summer… it has lovely light purple flowers;-)…
