a week or so ago I went to Staples and picked up a binder to save my ChefsPlate recipes in…

just happened to be purple…

then I punched holes in the recipe cards and divided them by food type… decided to go with beef, chicken, seafood, and vegetarian…

this shot shows my favourite recipe…

will be making this one again very soon…

yesterday I made this portobello and orzo recipe… really enjoyed it…

rather enjoy taking photos with the recipe card… for this one I had to make a few adjustments as the lettuce for the salad and basil had been touched by cold so I used some romaine from my fridge and freeze dried cilantro from the pantry…

pleased to have the recipes organized and easy to find…

for the last month or so I have been having trouble working the garlic press… for whatever reason the press piece hasn’t been fitting properly into the bottom section… thought I was just getting weak or something… 

just yesterday I had a good look at it and realized that it has been bent out of shape… no idea how that happened but very happy that the mystery is solved…

went to the Dollar Store today for something else, and picked up a few gadgets…  hoping this one works…

also picked up a zester… hope it is the right size, lol… I have about three now as I keep searching to find one the right size for zesting lemons…

looking forward to trying both of these out…

today I spent time preparing for our trip…

went through my closet and tried on the various bits and pieces of summer clothing…

chose black, white and gray as my colour scheme… with a few pops of purple;-)…

went to the mall and bought new sandals, runners and flip flops… 

came home and did loads of laundry so that everything was ready for packing… 

started with a small suitcase and then changed to a large one, lol… 

I know I have too much stuff, but I want a few options… last time I travelled I felt I didn’t have enough things to wear…

now the trick will be to have it weigh less than 50 pounds…

still have a few days to add things… which could be the problem, lol… 

George was particularly good at adding things at the end so we would always need another bag at the last minute… but he also had an amazing ability to fit everything into a tiny space… was fun to watch…

been feeling up and down lately… made me remember the importance of feeling well…

reminded me of five years ago today at George’s memorial service when I had a serious health crisis… 

from that event the doctors were able to discover the cancer in my uterus… once again, my beloved saved me…

many friends are dealing with health problems – colds, flu, chronic issues – to name a few…

wishing all of them health and wellness…

sunshine streaming into the garden…

bought some new pyjamas on the weekend when I was shopping with the boys…

they are very comfortable… only problem is that the bottoms are about six inches too long, lol…

thought about just chopping them off but after checking the idea out with a sewer realized that wasn’t such a good plan…

today I took them to City Place to get shortened… will be ready tomorrow afternoon… just in time for the packing plan…

have all of the summer clothes out but haven’t had time to try them on to be sure they fit and decide on which pieces to pack… a Saturday job…

need to decide whether I need a new pair of walking sandals… guess I better make up my mind soon…

last night we were supposed to get a snowstorm but instead the wind swirled around the house… very little snow but we had a bit of snow and lots of cold wind all day…

tonight we decided we would go to aquasize even though it was blustery out…

rather proud of ourselves for going out in the miserable weather, lol…

had a good class, although there were only five of us…

got out of the pool and were drying off and getting dressed when the fire alarm went off…

terrible noise… everyone in the complex had to go to the front lobby and wait… with the alarm still ringing…

eventually the firefighters arrived and they spent about fifteen minutes going here and there… while the bells still rang…

eventually the alarm was turned off… at that point we couldn’t hear very well…

after another fifteen or twenty minutes we were allowed back in to get dressed…

we think that there actually was an issue although they never said anything while they were there…

made for an interesting evening…

so I’ve been moving the flowers around a lot…

when I first opened them, I had them on the dining room table…

then they moved to the living room… I spent time there reading…

when I went upstairs to the bedroom they went along with me… I’ve really enjoyed them wherever I’ve been…

this morning I boxed them up and took them to the office… they smelled delicious and looked wonderful all day long… my colleagues enjoyed them too…

then at the end of the day, I put them back in the box and brought them home again…

they were in the living room for a while but are now here with me in the bedroom…

wanting to get as much enjoyment out of them as possible…

it was right around this time five years ago that the police knocked on the door as I was meeting with my BS friends and advised that George had been in an accident and they would take me to the hospital…

today I spent a gentle day remembering good times…

looked through old photo albums, enjoyed a short walk in the gorgeous weather, was treated to breakfast by a friend and her adorable baby (and her husband, lol), sat and read by my beautiful flowers, shopped with my son-in-law and the younger grandkids, bought some very nice pyjamas, had burgers cooked on the barbecue and am watching some tv with the perfectly working remote!!!

spoke with one daughter by phone and texted with the other…

focussing on the happy times…

it was a good day…

1825… days since my beloved left me… 261 weeks… 60 months… 

hard to believe so much time has gone by… although it also feels like it was just a moment ago…

he was my best friend, lover, staunch supporter, caregiver, sounding board, helper, chauffeur, shopper, masseuse, gardener, and…

as each anniversary of his passing has come and gone I have been through a variety of emotions… profound sadness, loneliness, and many tears…

some years it has been less difficult than others, but it never has a clear path… not more difficult at the beginning and less so as time has gone by… 

the first year my colleagues all wore purple to show their support to mark the day… sweet and supportive…

received flowers from the kids today…beautiful… the orchids are nearly identical to the ones from graduation… my mauve dress and George’s matching turtleneck were designed and made by a friend and I wore a beautiful orchid corsage on my wrist… that was a very long time ago, lol…

and of course the roses… my romantic husband brought me hundreds over the years…

a lovely treat and they brought back some special memories…
