what a beautiful view to wake up to on this first day of winter… everything was covered in a blanket of snow…
even more beautiful considering I don’t need to go out in it and can stay inside;-)…
well, I did shovel the sidewalk…

had some fun watching the visitors to the feeders today…
saw chickadees, nuthatches and woodpeckers at the front feeders… at one point all three were there, although only the woodpecker decided to pose, lol…
lots of sparrows as well as this guy on the deck…
at the end of the day, the sky was stunning…
nature was everywhere;-)…

this morning I was reminded of how beautiful hoarfrost can be… the pictures I came across were from eight years ago and showed the elm tree that lived across the street…
it was cut down a few years ago…
I took a photo to compare and was surprised at how much the cedar in our front yard has grown… the photo also shows the huge hole where the tree used to be…
I sure do miss the trees that have gone…

I’ve been spending a bit more time in the living room, enjoying the lights, reading and listening to music…
sometimes the fish are very noisy… when they are searching for food they toss around the rocks in the bottom of the tank…
these are river rocks, not fish tank gravel, so when they knock them over it produces quite the sound, lol…
it amazes me that they can lift them at all and of course, when I tried to catch them at it, they stopped, lol…

today I decided to reorganize the den and put out a few Christmas decorations…
I don’t think we have ever had any decorations there, so it was a clean slate and I had to decide which pieces to use…
I started by moving the couch forward and putting the massage table behind it… this sounds simple, but it involved climbing under counters, unplugging cords and cables, rolling up the rug, moving furniture into the hall and then returning it all…
this has helped keep the cold air from reaching the spot where I sit, lol… and given me a spot to add a tree…
then I brought up some of the trees, sleighs and reindeer… as I find other reindeer I will add a few more into the space…
once I was done (for now) I decided to take a few photos… spent a bit of time finding the Fireplace channel on the tv… I could almost smell the smoke as I listened to the crackling;-)…
certainly missing my decorating buddies…

sat in the sun in the living room and watched the birds at the feeders…
finally found one that likes the homemade suet;-)… yay for the downy woodpecker…
nice to see the house finches again…
I’ve only ever seen them in the garden…

yesterday a lot of time was spent at the front window with the camera on the tripod…
first up was this cute downy woodpecker… often hard to get a photo as they move fairly quickly, but caught this shot…
the gray squirrels have been busy at the base of the feeder… their tails are so pretty…
and finally, the red squirrels were around… they are very cute but not too friendly with the rest of the critters…
such fun to watch all of these visitors;-)…

spent a lovely afternoon in the garden before the rain…
pulled more leaves out of the pond… more are coming down into it every day…
I read and listened to the birds as they crunched through the leaves looking for bugs and seeds… considering how small they are, they made a lot of noise…
flocks of white-throated, song, and house sparrows, as well as pine siskins landed in the grass and around the pond where they would carefully jump from rock to rock to get a drink…
then off they went…

a dear friend brought my favourite fish and chips, from Captain’s Table and we had a great visit…
after she left I went out, filled the garbage bin with more goodies from the garage, and set it out for tomorrow’s pickup…
then I wandered around the yard and took some pictures of the Virginia creeper… it is a vivid and glorious colour although many of the leaves have already dropped…
I’ve been contemplating how lucky I am to have the time to spend on such activities;-)…

it was dull, cool and windy yesterday with a few sprinkles of rain…
I made soup… seemed like a good thing to do on what sure felt like a fall day…
as I went up and down working on it I took some photos of the garden…
hard to tell from these pictures that I don’t have any deciduous trees in my yard, lol…
cleaning up the leaves with the lawnmower isn’t that big a problem, but getting them out of the pond takes quite a while;-(…
looks like I won’t be working on that until Thursday when the weather might be a bit better…
