yesterday, mid morning, all of sudden the display on my Charge 3 stopped working… my battery was fully charged and it continued to record and buzzed at appropriate times… just couldn’t see anything… Fitbit foibles…

so I called the Fitbit support line and they told me to hook up to the charger and push the button for 8 seconds… sadly I didn’t have the charger at the office, but connected it when I got home… that didn’t fix it…

it was late when I emailed the person who had sent me the directions, but I got an email back this morning… another set of directions… this time held the button for 15 seconds…

it worked… hurray… don’t realize how much you depend on it until it isn’t working…

hope this isn’t a sign that it is going to have problems… the kids gave it to me for Christmas and I love it;-)…

as I was leaving the house this morning I could hear hooting…

it wasn’t a mourning dove… it sounded like an owl, and was large…

I couldn’t get a good enough close up to really figure out what it was…

will see if it is there tomorrow;-)…

this afternoon I made coleslaw… I used a recipe from a lovely church lady who is long gone… we used to make this recipe when feeding large crowds of people…

since then I have written down the measurements for half and a quarter of the recipe… sometimes I would mess up, using an amount from the full recipe for one ingredient and then maybe half for the next, lol… learned my lesson…

this always reminds me of my mother-in-law... she would make coleslaw and just know the correct combination of dressing ingredients needed to go in for the amount she was making… and it always tasted perfect;-)…

I do sometimes wing it now… and it usually works out, but today I went back to the recipe and put the extra aside for another time…

memories…

filled a large bowl as my grandson was coming for dinner… only to learn he likes the creamy kind, lol…

going to have some every day this week…

started the day sharing tea and croissants with a very special person… such a lovely way to begin the weekend…

was going to grocery shop, but it just felt too cold, so home I came, lol…

the snow on the hot tub cover was amazing and it looked like the siding was melting… it wasn’t, thank goodness… a very cool optical illusion…

then it was laundry and sports on tv;-)…

spent a few quiet moments this morning… first time in over a week that I haven’t been downstairs and walking on the treadmill…

instead, I spent some time quietly thinking of recent and upcoming birthdays… many in my circles have had or will be having birthdays soon…

lots of struggles as we age, and we try to support one another the best way we can…

a reminder for me to make the most of every day and be sure to take time to be in the moment…

it is cold out…

this morning I had to replace a safety pin that is helping to keep the garage door closed…

thought I was pretty smart when I figured out that by pinning a cloth over the lock mechanism the door will stay closed in the colder weather…

then as I drove beside the trellis I stopped, rolled down the window, took my gloves off, and got a few pictures of the snow on the leaves…

been looking at it every day as I move up or down the driveway…

silly to decide today, when it is -40 with the windchill, that I need to stop and take the photo, lol…

I do love shortbread and these are my favourite go-to when I don’t have any homemade ones available…

they remind me of a dear friend who loves them too…

I always make sure to have some in the house whenever I know she’s coming by…

when I eat one I think about all the fun times we have had together…

memories are such amazing things, aren’t they…

yesterday I spent some time preparing a couple of recipes that I can eat throughout the week…

the first one I made was Calico Beans… this is a great recipe because it makes a lot and is very tasty… it is made with three or more types of beans… usually it also has three cans of pork and beans, but I picked up kidney and black beans and only one can of pork and beans, so I improvised, lol… it also has onions, hamburger and bacon in it…

after that I moved onto Curried Red Lentils… it is served over rice and is another delicious recipe… it too makes a good amount…

my grandson came over for dinner and this is one of his favourites… we had some for our supper, packed up some for him to take home and put away two containers for my lunch or supper this week…
