had a few late Christmas gifts over the last while…
so nice when that happens and you get to enjoy new treats…
I’d been admiring the tree for quite a while, so it was wonderful to have it given to me…
the purple piece under it is one of those lovely handmade dishcloths… I find them excellent in the kitchen and this one is a great shade…

on my drive in yesterday I watched a man walk across the street with bare hands… it was extremely cold and reminded me of the many who do not have the basics for this weather, sigh…
as I was leaving the office a man stopped and gave me a faux rose… he said
give this to someone and tell them you care, while you can…
then he gave me a second one, which he said was for me… at that point he asked if I had change for a cup of coffee… I advised I didn’t have any money on me so he took back one of the roses and merrily went in his way…
both reminders of how truly blessed I am… warm clothes to wear, a safe home to live in, a vehicle to get me around and work that makes me happy…

in 2013 the whole family travelled to Mexico in celebration of my beloved…
we had a great time and did many fun things…
this picture came up in my feed today…
we walked along the bottom of the sea to see stingrays… before we went down we told the staff that I am claustrophobic and might not be able to participate for the whole time…
I was afraid, but went ahead… they help you put on the helmet (that weighs about 60 pounds), and climb down a ladder until you reach the sea floor… then walk alongside a bit of a rail… the water was moving a lot and we had to hang onto the handrail… once we reached a certain spot they had us stop and look beyond the handrail… the staff were swimming around with treats and bringing some of the stingrays over for us to see and touch…
the top of them felt like sandpaper while the bottom was as soft as velvet…
I thought the divers came by to see me once or twice to be sure I was okay, but after we got out of the water the girls told me they were beside me every minute or so, lol…
after we were done I felt very brave and proud that I had actually done it…

over the weekend I picked up the ingredients to make cabbage roll soup… I’ve never made it before but it sounded good and I’ve been craving cabbage rolls for a while…
last night I made it… the recipe I was using was made for an InstantPot so there was a lot of guessing around the cooking process… and I made a number of adjustments to the recipe… more of this, less of that… likely I couldn’t replicate it if I tried…
it made a ton of very thick soup…
I stopped on the way to work and picked up two different loaves of bread to go with it…
everyone loved it and it all got eaten up…
woohoo…

had a lovely evening…
headed to Polo Park with a young friend after work…
stopped at Ricki’s and found a jacket, and a purple plaid jean (kind of) shirt… on Saturday I had picked up two cute tops as well… both with purple flowers on them…
then we had supper at Moxie’s…
wandered through a few stores and headed home…
got my hair purpled yesterday so I will be all matched up when I wear the new clothes, lol…

the other day I came across some slides from the 70s…
this first one is from a trip we took with my beloved’s parents to Vancouver in 1978… it was just after our first daughter was born… she travelled in a travel bassinet for the whole trip… times have certainly changed, lol…
at least every second day something bad happened to the car… from blown tires, the muffler falling off at least three times, to windows freezing in the open position, to the engine catching fire… and other things in between…
clearly, a trip to remember…
the second photo is of a camping trip… shows our Chevelle and camper… I purchased that car with my dad in 1968 and we had it for many years… it was a wonderful car… and I have many amazing memories of our times with it…
the camper we have now is very similar to that one… I hope we make as many memories with it;-)…

late in the fall my grandson brought in a few of the plants…
one was the mandevilla… it had grown long and through some of the bench on the deck so was very messy when it came into the house…
I ignored it until the other day… took the time to cut it back and feed it… looking forward to watching it over the next few months…
also trimmed and fed the hibiscus and Japanese maple…
I am sure they all appreciated the attention… we will see how they all do…
nice to have greenery in the house… makes it feel summery…

on the first day back to work, as I stepped out of the house, the ground was covered with a light dusting of snow…
I was at the garage door when a sweet bunny hopped into the garden…
had to stop and get a few photos, even though my hands were full, lol…
this morning as I was standing at the kitchen sink I noticed a bunny and a squirrel having a tiff in the neighbour’s backyard… seems like the squirrel won because the bunny went and hid behind a shed…
such fun to watch the critters…

the big elm tree was cut down a few days ago… I hadn’t noticed until a while after I got home that night because it was late and dark out…
will be missing the shade this tree provided… and all the seasonal beauty…

been enjoying some beautiful flowers lately…
the cutest little orchid…
and I’ve been watching and waiting for my amaryllis to grow and bloom… I bought two at the same time and the one my daughter had bloomed beautifully at Christmas time…
mine did nothing for over a month… now it has started to grow in a manner that looks more like a hyacinth… will be interesting to see what happens…
