we spent a lovely morning at The Leaf noticing the growth since she was last here and counting cacao pods…
she also spotted the first chileo on the second tree… made me laugh cause I’ve been looking for ages trying to spot one on that tree…
we visited the butterflies although they weren’t very active as it was cool and overcast but it was fun to see them together… the Canadian Museum of Nature, in Ottawa, currently has a butterfly display as well so we often compare which butterflies we each see, lol…
we worked on a plan for our next trip together and did lots of research on the computer…
dinners in and out as we ate some of her favourites and then we were headed back to the airport for her flight home…
walked over to Silver Heights IDA Pharmacy on Friday morning and got both my covid and flu shots… I’d been waiting as at my recent doctor’s appointment, the vaccines hadn’t yet arrived… I called the Pharmacy on Wednesday and booked an appointment…
they have the system down pat, you sign a form, sit down and wait maybe a minute, Devarshi comes in and pops a needle into each arm and away you go;-)…
once I got home I took some Advil hoping to stop any sore shoulders, lol…
we emptied the space out and my housemate discovered that the hose on the tap was leaking… that one had been installed in 2014…
we contacted our plumbing people and headed out to purchase a new tap… we took the $10 Canadian Tire money that has been in the drawer for years…
it was fun to watch various staff members try to figure out how to deal with the paper, lol… eventually they discovered the longest serving teller who was able to assist our cashier and away we went…
as we got home we heard that the plumber was on his way…
in just under an hour, the tap was changed, and they were on their way…
this tap has the handle on the right side, so I am getting adjusted to that, lol…
we had a fan on, drying out the inside of the cabinet before the “stuff” which was filling up a number of counters, went back in…
this morning, now that the space is dry, all of the items from the cabinet when back in… and possibly in a slightly more organized way;-)…
the leaves have been falling and clogging up the pump every few days…
this is getting to be a pain so I spent the first time cleaning out the filter and pulling up leaves from the bottom…
the second time I cut back all the reeds to be sure the sun could get to the new bud, hoping that the weather cooperates so it can open… I also hoped it would help make the netting easier to cover the pond…
last year we put down green netting over the pond to try to catch the leaves, but it looked terrible and I took it off…
this year we have a new plan… we got black netting and pulled it tight over the pond covering everything from the waterfall to the furthest edges of the pond…
it is really hard to see the netting except around the edges where it is doubled up and it was already catching the never-ending falling leaves….
I’ve been listening to the smoke detector beep every few minutes to tell me it needs the batteries replaced… seems like it’s been going on for hours, lol…
I am waiting for my housemate to arrive home to change them as, not only can’t I reach it, I can’t figure out how to open it…
so, we thought the problem with the electricity had been solved with the replacement of the two fuses last week…
apparently, not so…
Saturday and Monday it happened again and lasted for two hours the last time… we weren’t able to get in touch with the electrician so called Hydro… of course we couldn’t get to a real person but left a power outage message… not long after, a real person did call and advised a technician would be out in the next while…
they arrived around dusk, and of course, the power had come back on, lol… that makes it much more difficult for them to figure out the problem…
after checking the recently replaced fuses, which were working properly, they checked the wires on the outside and discovered a connector that was hot and shouldn’t have been…
power was turned off (on purpose!), the connector was replaced, and the power turned back on…
the power has gone off a few times over the last few days… only for a few seconds, and only in some parts of the house…
the only way to know for sure was the stove and microwave both flashing or showing 0…
many years ago we had an electrician tell us that there are two fuses that cover half the house each, but I couldn’t remember where they were, lol… my beloved had always dealt with those issues…
we called an electrician and he turned up early in the evening…
he knew right where those fuses were located (in a big gray box!) and then had to search online for where to find them as the electrical supply stores were already closed… so happy he found them and was able to pick them up and change them…
apparently this is an old way of putting electricity into houses, lol…
