this morning I started a new activity…

for each of the next 24 days I am going to read and think on one of the cards that I received last year for Advent…

I really enjoyed the process then and am looking forward to this time of reflection each day…

I am going to start each day with a time of looking at the artwork and contemplating the quote on the back…

today I was thinking about how much sunshine can affect my mood and feeling of well-being… when the sun is shining everything seems more upbeat and positive…

where I live, we used to have a lot more sunny days… they are particularly helpful during the cold winter months, as even the cold seems more bearable in sunlight and blue skies…

I was reading some data which showed we averaged 51% sunny days between 1981 and 2010… for the past few years we have noticed that there is less sunshine that’s there used to be…

this morning, as I look out the window, the sky is blue… gonna be a good day😊…

got a text this afternoon from a wonderful friend advising she was going to drop something off…

one day last week I had gathered up some Virginia creeper vines and she had picked them up, so I think this was a little thank you…

I was excited because she makes the world’s best scones… and I was hoping that was what she was bringing…

we had a lovely chat and exchanged items… she got a card from my stash for Mother’s Day, and I got craisin scones, made with sweetener, and some purple napkins… I think I got the best of the deal, lol…

I said I wasn’t going to eat them until tomorrow, but I had to have a taste, lol…

what a lovely surprise…

it is always a treat to see how much everyone enjoys receiving a note and choosing a flower…

ordered enough so we could put a few at the front desk;-)…

one of my Advent gifts was a set of flower therapy cards…

I have started to choose one each morning, read the information and set it out to look at… also try to think of the words behind it throughout the day…

used to read cards like this on a regular basis… nice to get back into a bit of a routine…

this morning I took gerbers to the office to celebrate my seven year anniversary…

I’d picked them up last night and stood them up in a reusable grocery bag… even put the seat belt on to keep them from falling over…

I had spent some time last week making cards with some of my photographs and writing a note for every person…

had a few issues with the technology of getting the note and the picture in the right place, lol… but eventually they were all prepared…

it is always a treat to do something that makes others happy… one colleague commented how she loved when I had special events happening in my life because the rest of the team always get to celebrate as well… another suggested I was confused, as on your special day you are supposed to get the treats, not give them, lol… she’s new to the office;-)…

had a bit of a laugh when I realized that I hadn’t taken a picture of the flowers and vases in the kitchen before everyone started to come and choose theirs… usually I am on top of getting pictures, but the early birds were so excited that I got distracted… don’t have a single picture of the set up or even of any of the flowers in everyone’s space…

then just after lunch I found this at my desk…

in it was this beautiful rose and a lovely note from my colleague, who also happens to be my supervisor…

what a lovely treat…

it is wonderful to be appreciated… whether it is your special event, or someone else’s…

anniversary, big girl pants, cards, death, George, kind, memory, scan, tears, widow

saw a memory on Facebook a few days ago about my writing thank you cards after George died…

so many people did so many kind things for all of us during those difficult days…

didn’t know what to do with all the beautiful words and cards that were sent to us…

my son-in-law took all of them and scanned the fronts and backs into the computer… what a clever idea…

was able to keep the memories and not have piles of paper gathering dust… and I can go in and look at them now and again… which I did tonight when I was taking a picture of the scans…

lovely to read the heartfelt comments… cried for quite a while…

was reminded of this a few days ago when I was changing out the drawers in the living room table as I was getting ready for Easter…

the sweet valentine card that my colleagues presented to me was there and I wasn’t prepared to just throw it out…

took a few photos, after reading it again, and then scanned it into the computer…  makes putting the original into the recycling so much easier…

we write notes of appreciation for our colleagues on a fairly regular basis and pop them into their box… I wrote one for a colleague a few days ago…

it is wonderful to go into your own box and read a great note… particularly on a day when things aren’t going as well as they could, lol…

I write one for each staff person each year on the anniversary of my starting… I know how much I appreciate hearing their kind words and want them to know how much I appreciate them individually…

as a society I don’t think we write near the number of cards that we used to…

blessed, cards, Christmas, peace, secure, soft fluffy snow

been getting a few Christmas cards in the mail…

this year most are mentioning that people are thinking of me, particularly without George, this year… it always surprises me when people send cards, because if you know me, you know you aren’t going to be receiving one from me, so I am always amazed when people send them anyway…

I often save cards, if they happen to have a picture of one of the Christmas things I collect… which could be trees, snow people, santas, nativities, stars, reindeer, sleighs, angels… I think that covers most of them… my favourites are often snow flakes… they are so individual but complicated… much like people…

we’ve had lots of snow lately and much of it has been the soft, fluffy kind which is also very peace-full… something about the way it falls and then causes a silence that you can hear… everything is muffled in the quiet…

yesterday I received a beautiful card with a dove on it (I collect doves too)… it was quite stunning and brought peace to mind…

it made me think of how filled with peace my life is… George left me secure with a pension, paid off home, a few dollars in the bank, the knowledge of how to do many things, or if not, who to contact for help…

in today’s mail I received the tickets for a trip to Mexico, where I am taking our children and grandchildren, thanks to George…  I anticipate that we will have a wonderful time and imagine how thrilled he would be that we are enjoying this once-in-a-lifetime family vacation, because of his planning…

truly, I am blessed…
