brainpower…

seemed like a busy day around the house…

up early and worked on a newsletter with a program I am still learning so it took a lot of brainpower, lol…

my handy person stopped by to check out the front door… he is coming back tomorrow with some weatherstripping which should fix the draft… and he is going to pick up some birdseed for me… yay…

a bit later Lyndsay, from Modern Plate Catering, dropped off supper for tonight – and tomorrow – which will be warmed in the oven… very happy about the fact that they deliver as I am without a vehicle or my personal shopper…

I also figured how to keep the lumbar pillow I am using in the den from falling down every time I get up… I came across it when I did some deep closet cleaning…

phew;-)…

got close up and cozy with the fridge freezer this morning… my technique is to use my bathroom stool to sit in front of the fridge while the freezer door is open…

was chilly work, but put like things together and in containers… was a bit surprised with how many little freezer packs I have ;-)…

pleased with the outcome and hopeful that I will remember what went into each of the containers, lol…

had a lovely time on the deck this afternoon with the dahlias

I had watched a video from Dahlias by Julie on how to separate them and was looking forward to the process…

turned out it is much more difficult than I learned… not sure I ever spotted the eyes… it will be interesting to see if any of them grow when planted in the spring, lol…

in the end I put the corms that I separated into a paper bag which then went into a dark basement closet…

but it was a beautiful afternoon…

I was still in bed when the doorbell rang…

ran downstairs to find Travis and Wayne from Bresara Window Cleaning here to clean the eavestroughs

they were getting an early start on this beautiful day… they had cancelled a few weeks ago when the weather turned and everything was frozen, so they were going all out to get their appointments caught up…

they did a great job and now the loose eavestrough is connected so I won’t have to worry that it will fall into the hot tub when I’m in it;-)…

apparently, in the spring, we will have to replace a downspout which has cracked…

maybe there won’t be so many icicles over the hot tub this winter…

and while they were working on my eavestroughs, my neighbour had his ladders up and was installing his Christmas lights on his eavestroughs…

it has been below zero for a number of days and I had not remembered to empty the rain barrel… a lot of water had frozen in it and it was too heavy for me to flip it…

today, the temperature went to double digits and I just went out and opened the tap… and the water is running freely…

tomorrow, when it is empty I will turn it over for the winter;-)…

saved by the warm weather…

suet…

had some fun in the kitchen a few days ago after I took out the garbage from the den closet cleanup…

last week I found a recipe for homemade suet and added a few of the items to my grocery order so that I could make some for the birds…

it seems like a simple recipe with just 5 ingredients…

while making this, tomato sauce for my supper was simmering on the stove…

I made a double recipe so hope the birds like it, lol…

I used a sushi container and another container I found… after melting and mixing everything together, they went into the freezer to solidify…

I’ve put some out front in the suet holder and also put a bit in one of the saucers in the garden… so far it doesn’t seem to have the birds swarming to it;-(…

my problem now is that I am nearly out of sunflower seeds and won’t likely be getting any for at least a few weeks…

I’ve been thinking of a friend’s mother who used fur coats as draft stoppers… she had numerous fur coats and it just seemed like the funniest thing to me, although even in those days people were no longer wearing fur, so it was a good use of the coats, lol…

there is a vertical space along the bottom of my front door and I have been trying to figure out what needs to be done to fix it…

my handiperson is supposed to be coming before too long to check it out, but as I sit reading in the living room there is quite a cold draft across the floor…

this afternoon I took one of my winter coats and hung it on the doorknob and I think it is stopping the cold air;-)… or at least slowing it down…

too funny, lol…

filters…

Saturday I cleaned the filters for the fish tank…

ugh… not my favourite job, but we’ve decided that this needs to happen monthly

I am feeding the fish twice a day to be sure they are getting enough to eat… they are quite big now, lol…

that means that the tank can get murky and it felt like that was happening… as time goes on, I should be able to get the feeding down so that there isn’t excess food in the water…

a bit of a balancing act… it seemed to be getting clearer…

I also put some shelf liner behind the tank to see if I like how it looks…

the water pumping into the tank doesn’t seem to be flowing probably and I can’t figure out why, sigh…

yesterday I took down the liner as it blocked the light… and I changed out two of the three parts of the filter for new pieces because the tank is not clearing up…

can’t decide today if it has improved or not… will see what happens in the next few days, sigh…
