I went grocery shopping this morning…

I was almost out of tea and spinach and decided that today would be quieter (with less people) in the grocery store, rather that on the weekend…

while there I wondered whether I should keep my gloves on when pushing the cart… I tried to stay away from other people in the aisles… I picked up items with just a few fingers, and wondered how many people had punched in their codes at the credit card terminal…

as soon as I got home I hurried into the bathroom and washed my hands…

I could not believe how stressful the whole thing was…

brought home a pot of Spring flowers to help make the kitchen a brighter place…

planning to stay home for the next while unless really needed;-(…

had a bit of a giggle on Monday night…

while I was having a visit with my BS buddies, one of them noticed that I had a dryer sheet attached to the back of my shirt… when she took it off, there was a second one as well…

what made it particularly funny was that I had removed two sheets from the sleeves of the shirt in the morning when I got dressed… apparently that particular shirt likes to collect stuff…

I rip the sheets in half and reuse them a number of times which means that there could be a number of them in a load of laundry…

I also went out for lunch… there were no diners behind me and luckily my friend didn’t notice, I hope, lol…

the next day I put on a pair of Spring-looking leggings which I thought I’d worn before… at the end of the day I discovered they had the plastic size information still on the leg…

lucky for me, I spent the day at home;-)…

my beloved would have noticed these things…

recently read a quote on my Seize the Day calendar that said “Peace begins with a smile”…

brought a few things to mind…

a woman who I worked with for a number of years always smiled before answering the telephone… she felt, and I think it was true, that the smile made her sound more friendly and caring to the person on the other end of the phone… she credited her mother with the reminder;-)…

my daughter used peace love and happiness as her logo for many years and when I would see it, it always made me smile… found this on one of her old greeting cards…

it is hard to be angry with someone who is smiling…

had a lovely wander around the living room and dining room to check on the plants…

a few of the orchids are starting some new buds and the other plants are doing nicely…

it was a nice treat to wander around and see the growth

we just sprang forward on the weekend and I think Spring is really coming…

had quite the giggle this morning…

last night I had rolled up the toothpaste container and then put a bulldog clip on it to keep the toothpaste closer to the top…

this morning when I unscrewed the cap, the toothpaste shot out… clearly there was a bit too much pressure, lol…

reminded me of how I always blamed my beloved for the messy toothpaste tube… amazingly, even after he was gone the tube sometimes gets messy;-)…

I have been so impressed with the responses to International Women’s Day this year…

businesses and individuals have made concerted efforts to share information about the number of women in their organizations or focussed on amazing women they know or work with… watching women lifting up other women is so empowering… there is much to do, but a positive sign as we continue to raise one another up and work toward an equal world…

this has made me think of the women in my life who have been excellent role models, mentors and friends…

the matriarchs in my family: my great grandmother Josephine, my grandmother Violet, my mother Audrey… the women who have lived through life with me: Janice, Naomi, Marlene and Pat… those who I have spent time and learned from and with over twenty-five years as we studied and reimagined the church, religion and spirituality…

my neighbours: Ellen, Lorraine, BA and Lynn… the wide range of women I have worked with over the years who have demonstrated what it means to be a leader… the young women in my life who have taught me so much…

as I was searching for just the right photo I found these three… the first is hands working together… the second is from the Famous Five statue in Ottawa… the last portrays all of those who circle me with their knowledge, support and love…

Happy International Women’s Day

had a lovely day…

walked to and from the Park with a friend and had lunch at the Park Cafe… I’ve been ordering the same thing for a while now – the beet and goat cheese salad with falafel on the side… it is delicious… I order a side so it is just the right size…

enjoyed all the bits of nature which I spotted at home and on our walk… I also saw and heard geese flying over which was an early Spring treat

the only unfortunate thing was that one of my boots sprang a leak and by the time I was home my foot was soaked...

apparently I am going to have to get new boots for next year;-(…

spent an hour or so this morning moving pictures in my Google Photos into albums… I really need to do this more often once I’ve got my Albums sorted out so that it doesn’t take so long…

just about the time I finished I got a text from a friend who wanted to do some shopping for an external drive and maybe spend a bit of time learning a few things about her iPhone…

I did some research on best deals and when she picked me up we headed to Staples to purchase the drive… it was a great deal, she got a 2 terabyte backup for the same amount I paid for 1 terabyte in September;-)…

we learned about a new offering they have… $20/month for a year for online support for up to 5 devices… sounds like it might be a great program for those who don’t have access to their own computer geek

from there we went for lunch at Za Pizza Bistro… delicious, and I had half to bring home for tomorrow’s supper…

once we got home we spent another hour or so going over some tips and tricks for the iPhone… we’ve already scheduled our next time to play together…

after she left I wrote out notes about all the things we covered and sent the info off to her…

helping others with technology makes me very happy…

today commemorates eight years since my beloved left me… he walked with me longer than I walked alone before and since his death…

I miss him… every day and in every way… I have grown so much since that day… and continue to as I move forward…

I’ve been thinking of many of the fun things that we did during our forty-plus years together… from camping in tents and pop-up trailers, to zip lining and riding up a mountain in a chairlift (for 2 people afraid of heights)… from Grand Beach to Goose Spit… from gardening to bathroom renovations… from family meals on the deck to dimsum in restaurants…

this morning I received a parcel from the kids in Ottawa… 3 cute plants in a wooden box… a great addition to the forest, lol…

the outdoors looked stunning after a night of snow, but the delivery person had to make a path to get to the door…

also received some earbuds in the mail that I had ordered from our AirMiles account, so it was like a gift from my beloved… took me a while to figure out how to connect them…

made steak, potatoes and mushrooms for my dinner… he would have grilled it, but I cooked it in the oven, lol…

was recently enjoying a Sweet Kale salad… I’d picked up a large bag at Costco and had been eating it over a week or so…

it comes with a poppyseed dressing and reminded me of the first time I had poppyseeds

my beloved and I had announced our engagement and his best friend’s parents invited us over for a special dinner

the first course was a poppyseed soup… it was the only item I remember from the entire meal… can’t even remember if it was cold or hot, lol…

my taste buds did not enjoy it at all and I can remember struggling to get it down, because in those days, when someone made you something special you ate it, lol…

I don’t think I’ve eaten anything else with poppyseeds in it until this particular salad, which I’ve been eating for a few years and quite enjoy…
