a few weeks ago I picked a beautiful ripe tomato from the tomato plant… when I turned it over it had blossom rot and I had to toss it..

last week I picked another one that had just started to turn the slightest shade of orange… it went onto a shelf in the kitchen and turned nicely red, and when it was turned over the bottom was perfect;-)… and it made a lovely open-faced sandwich…

today I took off the next tomato, this one is a bit smaller, but I am hopeful that it will ripen without the blossom rot;-)…

hoping that this will turn into another beauty…

was up early this morning and went out to sit in the garden… it was a bit chilly, so I had a blanket around my shoulders…

it was sunny at that point, although the weather network was suggesting it would rain for a good portion of the day, so I decided to enjoy the weather while I could…

usually I would read, but instead, this morning I just watched the antics of the critters in the garden…

as I sat there the birds were visiting the suet and a bunny was snacking on the clover close to me…

what a treat;-)…

the red squirrels have been able to fit inside the frame that is supposed to protect the squirrels from getting to the seeds…

I wasn’t particularly worried about them sliding into the feeder until I looked at the feeder today, sigh…

they have eaten through the plastic and pretty much destroyed the feeder…

so, the next feeder needs to be only made of metal and glass, because plastic cannot win against squirrel…

the morning glories are exploding

on Tuesday I counted twenty-six on the obelisk next to the back door… happy I took some nice photos before it rained, lol… the rain completely destroys them…

today I didn’t count, but I think there may have been even more, and there were two blue ones on the butterfly bench;-)…

sock a lovely way to begin the day…

our most recent project was fixing the back gate… one end had sunk down and it was dragging on the ground, making it difficult to open and close…

day one, session one, involved removing it from the fence and cutting a portion off the bottom… at the end of the day we put the garbage and recycling bins in the opening so it didn’t feel so open, lol…

session two was removing nails and finding a board to go from corner to corner to help keep the gate from sagging as well as one to go along the bottom… and purchasing screws and a gate wheel…

day two, session one, involved figuring out the angle of the cross board and reattaching all the pieces… and purchasing an impact drill…

we aren’t going to talk about how someone gave away the first one, sigh…

session two involved reattaching the gate to the fence and making sure the wheel was in the correct spot… sounds easier than it actually was, lol…

and job done…

this will make taking out and returning the bins much easier in summer and winter;-)…

spent a good portion of Saturday working through the project list

the flat rock in the waterfall area was glued down…

the sad planter got a few coats of bright blue paint…

a used pond hose had clamps removed and was cut down into pieces that fit into the garbage can…

large pieces of tyndall stone were moved to tidy up the veggie garden area…

a board under the bed was trimmed so I won’t bang my shins on it…

a broken piece of 2 by 10 was removed from the bench and clamped together to produce a template for the replacement…

what fun to check off so many items from the list😊…

on Tuesday evening one of the doors on the side gate was taken away to be repaired by one of my beloved’s boyfriends

a number of the “rays” had broken over time so it needed a delicate touch to return it to its former glory…

it was odd that only this one door had the broken pieces…

at bedtime I put a chair up in the empty space as I didn’t want the deer to come and visit (ie, eat) anything in the garden, lol…

Wednesday afternoon it was returned all beautiful and restored…

we screwed it back into the hinges and it looks excellent…

earlier this week I had a bit of a meltdown…

it wasn’t until Wednesday that I realized the reason for the meltdown was my body getting ready for Friday…

would have been our 55th wedding anniversary… we only made it to 42 together…

it is hard to believe that 13 years have gone by since my beloved left me…

Wednesday was such a lovely day…

started the morning with Hilda the Gardener, who arrived to do some maintenance in the garden… I’ve been thinking of the change that she has made to the space over the years;-)…

it always feels so fresh and tidy after her time here…

while she was working away, I picked beans and peas, and spotted some cucumbers starting, yay…

then a friend stopped by with a bag of books for me and I had a bag for her as well;-)…

we hadn’t seen one another for ages and had a great catch-up…

after they both left, I read and relaxed in this lovely space…
