lonesome…

as I move along this new path in my journey I do get lonesome for my beloved… I miss him all the time, but mainly I am enjoying my new life…

of course there are days where I feel down… this weekend I couldn’t unhook the hose to empty the hot tub… he had the strongest hands that could open/twist/turn anything… the fish tank is getting cloudy and he would have known exactly what type of filters we need… I’ve tried a couple of different kinds, but still don’t think I am getting the right ones, sigh…

was talking with someone who lost their partner shortly after George died… they have filled their time with other people, hardly ever on their own… recently they commemorated their partner’s passing with what sounded like a full blown funeral…

we will be celebrating George’s birthday in a few weeks, likely with burgers and milkshakes, maybe apple pie, three of his favourite foods… we will be together and share stories and laugher, and maybe a few tears but likely less than last year or the year before…

interesting the different ways that we each respond as we deal with these life altering events…

I think the hibiscus is in just the right place in the living room… must be getting the correct dose of sunlight

IMG_9332.JPG
there were at least thirteen buds this morning… looks amazing considering it probably only has twenty or thirty leaves on it…

IMG_9333.JPGthis picture was taken when I arrived home and the sun was shining in and making some beautiful shadows

got upstairs and took this picture of the sun going down…

enjoyed a very short walk getting home… crisp but lovely…

a great day filled with sunshine… haven’t had a lot of it lately so really appreciated it… happy to be able to take the time to enjoy the moment

had a delicious breakfast this morning at The Met… a lovely french toast casserole with fruit salad and some bacon, yum…

IMG_9315.JPG
at lunch we had a wonderful Thai soup made by a colleague… it is their specialty and is a lovely treat whenever we get it…

tonight, at aquasize I started coughing… think it might have been the chemicals in the water… a couple of others were coughing as well…once I got home I didn’t know what I wanted, so I made myself a hot lemonaide…

two out of three meals were great…

supper ended up being two crumpets with melted cheese on top…

snow was on the ground again this morning… had to put my boots on… I go as long as possible wearing my sandals… even once I am wearing my boots I use my sandals at work… they are by far the most comfortable shoes I have…

after work I helped a friend download and learn a new computer program… great fun… whole process went very well… download was a piece of cake, and we were able to copy data into the program without any issues either… we entered new data and saved it easily… looks like it is going to be a great program…

tonight I am feeling cold and tired… going to climb into my pyjamas, get under the covers and get lots of sleep…

woke up to snow on the ground this morning…

snow on the ground...

snow on the ground…

when I went downstairs a red hibiscus was in full bloom and I could see the snow on the ground… reminded me of a poppy

spent a good portion of the morning watching the Remembrance Day service from Ottawa…

sunrise...

sunrise…

remembering my mother and father and George’s father and their service to our country… neither my father or George’s ever talked about what they did…

my mom’s work involved removing or adjusting pictures of ships so that when they were published in newspapers anywhere in the world they wouldn’t be recognizable as a certain ship… she was heavily involved in having this statue designed and raised at the Legislative grounds… this picture was one I downloaded from the internet, and there was no information about who took it…

had a quiet day thinking of them and also George… his dad died just a few days before Remembrance Day which made the day very special for both of us…

spent the majority of the day at home

did some laundry and brought in a couple of plants from the garden… saw the pictures from our photo shoot a while back… they came out very nice…

spent some time in the kitchen… made chicken soup and home-made macaroni and cheese… put together a spinach salad and picked up chocolate haystacks and raspberries…

had a nap and finished my preparations for dinner…

texted with my daughter in Ottawa who is sick with the flu… my home-made macaroni and cheese is one of her favourite meals when she is here… she was a bit sad, although she really isn’t eating…

IMG_9251.JPG
I might have made a bit more than we needed for our dinner tonight…

it was lovely to have the day off so that I was well rested and enjoyed getting ready for our ReImagining gathering… because we meet in Mondays, I am often rushed after work…

great to spend time together and learn at the same time…

went to the dentist a little over a week ago… for a filling… can’t remember the last time I’ve had a filling, sigh…

it went very well and I was rather proud of my calm throughout the whole procedure…

she froze the top right side of my mouth where she was working… seemed to recover fine…

a day or so later, my lips felt very dry and I was wondering if I wasn’t drinking enough water… after a few days I was even using some balm to try to make my lips feel better…

a day or so after that I got a big pimple under my nose… it really hurt… then three or four more erupted along the right topside of my lip all the way to the crease of my lips…

I was wondering if I’d eaten too many leftover Halloween chocolates, but didn’t think I had…

yesterday it occurred to me that this all might be a reaction to the freezing

I have reached the point that I don’t use any drugs because my body reacts so poorly… when I had my hernia/hysterectomy I stopped taking the drugs within a very short period as they were making me feel terrible… dealing with pain was better than being so sick… I know the pain will eventually go away…

today there is still one very angry looking spot, but I think the others are starting to subside…

this morning I heard geese going over, honking all the way… there were quite a few from the sound…

IMG_9234.JPG
the sunrise was beautiful and I was lucky to catch it…

I love the sound of the geese as it heralds the coming of spring and fall… if I am outside I can’t keep from gazing up to see where they are…

I haven’t been able to get pictures of the geese flying but took this picture a few weeks ago… you can spot them in nearly any body of water around the city…

IMG_9231.JPG

this one was taken when we were wandering through the zoo at the end of August…

IMG_9233.JPG
it is important not to get too close because they can be very ornery… a goose bite really hurts… had the experience when I was about five, ugh…

still, I do love that sound

this morning I took a picture of my buddies having breakfast…

IMG_9218.JPG
still figuring out exactly how much to feed them…

must say I am happy to have them as company again…

yesterday I went for another field test… I had gone for one a few months ago but was called back because one eye didn’t do so well… thankfully both eyes did fine this time… then they took some scans of my eyes and I saw the doctor… he was pleased with all the results and said my current eye drops would still be fine… amazing what stress can be involved in something as simple as a vision exam…

this morning I also got a few pictures of the hibiscus in full bloom…

IMG_9219.JPG

a reminder that being able to see is a wonderful thing…

took this picture yesterday morning of a bud…

IMG_9193.JPG
the hibiscus tree has about 20 leaves on it… the rest fell off once the flowers bloomed the first few weeks after I brought it in…

full moon today… when we were driving to swimming the moon was huge above the trees… by the time we finished it had risen quite a bit higher, but was about half the size…

happily I had scalloped potatoes and ham for my supper, which my friend dropped off tonight… I cooked some snow peas to go along with it… these were the scalloped potatoes that our group had peeled and sliced for her family dinner after her brother’s memorial service last week… they were delicious… although there were lots of onions in them, her system of cutting the slices into small pieces infused the potatoes with the flavour but not great bits of onion…

this is the blossom tonight…

IMG_9205.JPG

so happy to have blooming flowers in the house… George brought me orchids or other blooming plants often throughout the cold weather…
